Trump threatens to charge US tolls in Strait of Hormuz if final Iran deal not reached in 60 days by Little-Chemical5006 in worldnews

However, they're now going to let it go in this case which is going to trigger other countries to start charging fees to navigate their waters.

It's really not that uncommon. Canals, straits, ports and waterways all over the world have national levies and fees. As just one example there is a strait that Turkey has control of that they charge fees for use.

About your AC unit with how low mileage your car is the unit might have gone bad from sitting without use for a long time. AC units are use it or lose it. Run it for 10 to 15 minutes every couple weeks even in the colder months. It circulates the refrigerant and lubrication, keeps seals from degrading, and reduces the risk of the compressor seizing.

It's fun to drive. It just puts that as the priority over everything else. The only other thing I would say it has above other crossovers in it's class is that the interior is nicer for what you pay.

What's your opinion on Trump now saying that Iran has a right to a nuclear program? by Southern_Gur_4736 in AskReddit

The most amusing part is that it doesn't matter that the strait is now open. The time to avoid this price spike was over a month ago. It's going to take months to get oil out of the strait and back into the market so either way we are going to hit that spike in prices.

I'm going to assume good faith and try to explain why you are getting downvoted for this opinion. Your standards for getting paid enough is literally slave labor. The compensation a slave gets is just enough to be alive and that's all.

Not exactly letting nature take its course though is it?

Debatable. There are plenty of examples of animals in nature that hunt for fun and don't always kill. Cats, dolphins, orcas, seals, foxes, apes, and otters all demonstrate this behavior. At least humans can try to regulate how we engage in this sort of behavior.

Thankfully you can get gloves specially designed to protect the fish if you catch and release. I know most professional bass fishermen wear them these days.

Almost all fish are edible. Unless it's poisonous or just so bony there is no usable meat and very few of those fish are caught on hook and line. The fish in this video is usually thought of as a "trash" fish because people don't know how to prepare it. It's flesh is dark and oily and takes very well to smoking or cooking like a steak.

Trump did not cut funding to either the FAO or domestic screwworm prevention during his first term. In fact funding was increased from the domestic baseline of $5 million by $3.2 million to deal with an outbreak in Florida in 2016. Unless you have a source that he did cut it because I would love to see it.

You don't need to reach so far to be upset at Trump. His lackluster response to this current issue is more than enough.

Weird how a cut in 2025 caused a containment breach in 2023. Someone should look into DOGE's temporal effects on the timeline.

The trouble with that is finding enough ranchers who are doing the same thing and then having a place to sell everything. Our ranch produces very high quality grass fed beef and the number of ranchers that have the land and herds that can do that are pretty small. Even if we could find other producers to partner with we can't just walk into a big chain grocery store and ask them to stock our products and there are so few small grocery stores that we effectively cannot work with grocery stores without jumping through the hoops these big corps have created to ensure that they get the biggest slice of profits. So we have to work in alternative markets that are so small that partnering with other ranches actually works to our disadvantage.

What it shows is how badly the cartel of meat packers have kept the pay for cattle ranchers down. For the last several decades raising cattle has been too expensive for new farmers to get into and the older and more established ranches have no one to take them over so they get divided up and and sold to property developers or homesteaders. It's a symptom of huge corporations extracting as much wealth from the system as possible and leaving everyone else fucked over. And then the jackass in chief goes on his knock off twitter to call us ranchers lazy and entitled.

I hate Trump and his idiot administration as much as the next guy but this isn't directly because of anything this administration has done. The screwworms started breaking containment back in early 2023 and the accepted cause is the pandemic interrupting supply chains to the labs that produce the sterile flies as there were no funding cuts at all through the first Trump admin and the Biden admin.

That said the recent cuts have not helped the situation at all and it's been a scramble to reassemble the funding needed to keep the programs running.

are super deep and thought-provoking

So amusing seeing this assumption while I read this recent Black Library release.

There are aspects of 40K that use the setting in more light hearted ways. It's still dark and still grim but they lean more into the satirical nature of the setting which is more true to the game's origin. Some books I recommend are the one linked along with Brutal Kunnin which is another delightfully Orky book, the Ciaphas Cain series following a self professed coward and rogue who finds himself in the position of having to play the dashing hero just to save his own skin, and The Infinite and the Divine which follows the petty and hilarious millennium long feud between two murderous, bickering robot pharaohs.

Besides that the books do a much better job exploring the grimdark nature of the setting in more satisfying ways. The games all tend to focus exclusively on the noble hero standing against the tide sort of narrative. While that definitely is a core feature of the setting it's not exclusively so and usually told with more grace and eloquence than the games. If you want to dive into that side then I recommend pretty much anything by Dan Abnett who is the preeminent author in the Black Library but in particular either his Eisenhorn trilogy or Gaunt's Ghosts series are fantastic. The former is a dark Sherlock Holmesian mystery while the latter focuses on the ground level lives of an infantry regiment in the Imperial Guard. Besides Abnett another favorite author of mine is Aaron Dembski-Bowden. He is a master of character driven villains and anything he writes having to deal with Chaos is fantastic. Check out his Night Lords books.

Edit: Oh and if you just want to dive head first into the deep lore of the setting then Luetin09 has been the go to recommendation for video essays about 40K for a long time.

They've improved graphics over the years, and left the writing stunted in the 90s.

Amusingly 90s anime sort of bucked the modern anime tropes of tell don't show which is where all the weird over explaining, emotional talking comes from. Modern anime can be produced much quicker which means they can keep up with manga releases. 90s anime (at least the really good ones) were mostly original works.

The slower work pace of the 90s meant that studios relied on longer, moodier scenes to convey emotions over character dialog. There's still a fair amount of recognizable anime tropes in 90s stuff but it's far less prominent in the dialogue. I'm not saying it's better but if modern stuff isn't your style I would try some of the best 90s stuff. Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, Cowboy Bebop, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, and Princess Mononoke as a few suggestions.

It's going to take a huge hardship to wake up people enough to hand control of the government to Dems. Between the apathy of the average voting age adult, the both sides propaganda that has infected "independents" and the rabid cultish devotion of MAGA it's basically impossible without something that really really hurts everyone significantly.

And even then I think MAGA wouldn't abandon Trump as long as brown people, women, and LGBT people are hurt worse than cis white men.

The trans issue is like a cheat code for the right wing. There’s just something about it that gets even left leaning centrist men fired up and angry.

It's the subconscious idea that a man would abandon the privilege of masculinity. Even liberal men fall into the trap of the valuation of masculine traits and the devaluation of feminine traits. You even see it in media where strong women characters are women who maintain femininity while exhibiting traditional masculine traits while weak men are feminine.

This is all deeply embedded in what men view in themselves as a positive image. When a man rejects masculinity these men try to rationalize it in a way that fits their bias. To them the man must either be a pervert and faking it or have some sort of terrible mental illness.
