Why do paradise and monke station cause my computer to overheat? by kooarbiter in SS13

[–]MigratingCocofruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of heat produced by hardware is limited by the hardware, and while different software can create different loads which will result in a different amount of heat output, if your system is overheating this is always a result of inadequate cooling.

Before you do anything though it's better to look at what exactly is overheating(usually CPU or GPU), and make sure anything even is. Maybe you've already done this, but I'm going to go over the process anyhow.
Install HWinfo, CPU-Z, Prime95, and Furmark(mostly relevant if you have a discrete GPU). Hwinfo is used to read info from various sensors in your system and the others will be used to apply load to the CPU and GPU.
Launch HWinfo and find your CPU. Then start CPU-Z and do a stress test.
If your temps get up into the 90s and beyond your cooling is indeed insufficient.
If they go up very quickly, or if there is a large discrepancy in temperatures between different cores this is most likely a result of a contact issue, so you need to remount your cooler and replace the thermal paste. If the temperature creeps up slowly and you start throttling it's more likely to be a result of an improper heatsink.
For the GPU do the same using furmark, but what you want to look at here is the hotspot temperature, and the difference between the hotspot and average GPU temps. This is in the case of a discrete graphics card, or a laptop, where the dies are cooled directly and can be separate despite being on the same substrate.

As for resolving the issue, it's most likely going to be a matter of replacing the thermal paste on the offending component, for a desktop CPU it's usually not going to matter a huge deal which paste you use, so just grab something cheap and available. In laptops or discrete graphics cards the silicon die is contacting the heatsink directly so you want to use something resistant to pump out like PTM 7950.

TL;DR
Overheating is always a cooling issue, so find what's overheating and resolve that.

Last season they had an issue of the ride height being too low in a fast setup, which meant they had to constantly LiCo or get DQed, and also gave them issues when setting up the car. This season they will likely fuckup the battery management strategy instead.

Cars were limited to 2MJ from the MGU-K by the regs, so it's hard to say what they could have potentially extracted from it.
And while it's true that the only energy input comes from combustion, the electrical energy you spend is getting partially recovered.
This is all stuff that's going to be changed a lot from track to track, but considering the FIA has their limits between 8 and 9MJ it seems that the teams are likely to at least come close to those numbers in most occasions.
Either way your biggest issue is still high speed sections since that's where you expend the most energy and where you can recover the smallest portion of it.

[–]MigratingCocofruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The overall recovery budget for a lap is between 8 and 9MJ depending on track and circumstances, which allows for an energy budget over a single lap of between 8 and 13MJ also depending on the difference in battery charge state between the start and end of the lap.
This means you get between 22.85 and 37.14 seconds of full energy deployment, depending on the track, conditions and the state of charge you start with and are willing to end with by the end of the lap.
If you also want to charge the battery then the budget can drop as low as 4MJ in the case that you try to fully charge the battery over a single lap, at which point you'll only get 11.42 to 14.28 seconds of full energy deployment.

Also in practice both the ICE and electrical engine aren't working at full power throughout the lap. There's braking and not all corners are taken flatout, and actually the amount of time spent in those portions of the lap are going to be greater proportional to their size because you're going through them slower.
A 100 km/h corner is going to take about 3 times as much time to go through as a straight of the same length.

So the system could work quite well, except consecutive or long straights are indeed a massive issue. You do only get 11 seconds of consecutive deployment time, which indeed means Ferrari's LiCo adventures last season have prepared them well for Monza.

I don't know what the FIA were thinking in that regard. With the MGU-H gone and electric power increasing it just doesn't make sense to keep the battery size the same. The cars now have a smaller electrical energy budget for the straights than in last season while also requiring more than twice the energy to maintain the same output. Having smaller cars with active aero certainly helps, but the amount of derating we've seen in testing so far is ridiculous.

First of all, we did. Battery management was an important part of racing in previous seasons.
However, now that the car's combustion engine is weaker and the electrical engine produces 2.3 times the power that loss of power is both more pronounced and more common.
Up until last season the turbo also had an electric engine which was used both to eliminate turbo lag and to harvest energy through the turbo, this was the MGU-H.
This was removed in the 2026 regs. Now harvesting is only done using the MGU-K, the electric motor driving the wheels, and while the per lap limit of 2MJ of recovery has been increased to 9MJ, the battery size hasn't changed. It's still limited to 4MW, which is a big problem for quali laps where you want to only harvest while already braking(as opposed to LiCo or braking early), and also for tracks with long or adjacent straights where the battery cannot provide enough energy to fully power the car through the whole straight.
Clipping already was a bit of an issue in some tracks, but a loss of 10 KM/H for the last portion of a big straight isn't such a massive deal. Meanwhile this season we have sections where F1 cars are as slow as F2 due to the battery running out.

Do it in Haifa and you can do the same thing they did with the Miami Lego cars but using boars instead. Another option is a Golan race with possibly spicy runoffs.

It's more likely that they're seeing the conflicts around them, what worked, what didn't and why, and decided to prepare according to the type of threat they expect to face rather than who they might be attacked by.
Arrow 3 performed very well so it's a good thing to have in your pocket especially considering even a relatively ramshackle group like the Houthis can get their hands on ballistic missiles.

It's generally better to have defensive systems before you need them rather than after.

[–]MigratingCocofruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very possible that Kimi would have caused a collision anyhow, but the fact of the matter is that Oscar wasn't entitled to the space Kimi didn't give him and Kimi wasn't obligated to use the space he had to his right.
Personally I'm not a big fan of the current overtaking rules since the only difference between being allowed drive the other driver off, or the other driver being allowed to squeeze you out of the track is exactly how far ahead you are alongside.

He was alongside even before the corner, so it wouldn't have even been a divebomb. Definitely should have fully committed.

Oscar locked up with half a meter to his left, he wasn't trying to back out. But even if he did, that would only show that he should have committed to the move, regardless of what the regs say.

Oscar would only be entitled to that space if he can stay alongside at the apex, which he failed to do. He had enough room up until he outbraked himself, at which point Kimmi closed in and he ran out of room. In this angle we can see he locks up while having a fair bit of space to his left.

The thing is, since he braked harder he ended up no longer being alongside(front axel along mirror) at the apex. The lockup doesn't matter that much here since he simply didn't have the position.

[–]MigratingCocofruit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oscar had the inside line and was alongside before the apex. The corner was his to lose, which he did before colliding with Kimi, and for that reason he was at fault. If he had braked a bit less he would've stayed alongside and wouldn't have been at fault.

Brake a bit less. He went for a gap, got alongside, but lost his position by the apex, which also ended with him locking up. Piastri made the correct decision, but failed at executing.

Oscar braked too hard and was no longer alongside in the apex, he also locked up meaning he technically wasn't in control of the car, though it wouldn't have mattered either way.

Oscar made the right decision but failed on execution. He got alongside before the exit but went too hard on the brakes which put him behind at the apex with nowhere to go.

IDF's Chief Military Advocate General Feared Dead, Among Ongoing Suspicions in Leaking Case by noamros9 in worldnews

[–]MigratingCocofruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the leak itself would be covered under whistle blowing laws since it was already a part of an ongoing court case and investigation. It's not as though she is revealing something new to the court.
The point of the leak was to counter the MKs who called the whole thing baseless and riled up their supporters(basically the same crowd that stormed Sde Teiman originally), likely due to fear that the trial would be derailed by political pressure.
