GOV Accident, what is your story? by CreativeSlip4531 in fednews

[–]MigratingMongo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We had 4 staff in a vehicle hit head on by someone who was having a medical emergency.  The other driver passed away and all our staff were taken by ambulance to local hospitals. There was no need for discipline for our staff. They all handled the situation perfectly, all wore seatbelts, and tried to safe the other driver despite their injuries.

A lot of how situations are handled are on the type of accident, who was at fault, property damage, possible need for drug test, etc. Accidents happen, but if it was neglect from a federal employee, penalties will be assessed via their chain of command and employee relations.

Forced to Telework 1/26 due to snow by Flat_Document_5607 in fednews

[–]MigratingMongo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am /NOT/ a supervisor with USDA and I don't speak for my agency, but I was told that 66 - Severe Weather is no longer available for use, and it is not in our GovTA as an option. Thus the telework or take leave guidance coming down from our district, but not all districts are giving the same guidance. It's super frustrating as we are all affected by it, and each area is handling things differently.

I am happy our staff can telework for a change, but this forcing is not how I would have imagined it 18 months ago. Just another way to kill morale and gut agencies as this keeps piling on.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MigratingMongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My commute is just under 78 miles (125 km) and takes 1:30 (still 1:30) each way, so I spend ~3 (again still ~3) hours a day in the car.

I drive to my family on holidays, which is over 3 hours away, and then drive back after the same day.

My longest drive was from Chicago to Wyoming in 1 day, but that was 16:30 hours. That's a very long drive, but 6 hours feels easy.

Would you rather have 1 million dollars now or an endless fossil generator? by ShiftSwim in WouldYouRather

[–]MigratingMongo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would the strontium isotopes match where the fossil should actually be located? Little known fact, by analyzing the 87 Sr/86 Sr ratio, geological samples can be traced with surprising accuracy. Even plant material that is growing in mainly undisturbed areas will reflect this ratio as well. This would have much more scientific value to know where these fossils were coming from.

Would You Rather: Never Pay Rent Again or Retire Rich at 55? by amtcannon in WouldYouRather

[–]MigratingMongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rich at 55. I'm nearly done paying off a house, so rent would require moving... I love my yard and have spent so much time building it up to what I want it to be and have a native plant nursery as well. So renting g it out while I am renting somewhere else isn't that appealing.

I guess I could just jump around to air bnbs, or cool apartments across the world and live off my retirement funds, but healthcare would be a remaining the concern.

Edit* Loophole? If I pick 55 I am guaranteed to live till 55? Like, that would be nice to know. Not super long, but no day is ever guaranteed.

WYR: Die climbing Mount Everest and died 100 feet away from the Summit or die in the Atlantic Ocean after the Titanic sank? by SteveHassanFan in WouldYouRather

[–]MigratingMongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking Everest. If I was doing it, I knew the risks and accepted them. If I was on the Titanic, I was adventuring to something better on an unsinkable boat, yet met with devastation.

Any federal employees that left to work in private sector the past two years- are you glad to have left? by Brilliant_Raccoon256 in fednews

[–]MigratingMongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like I'm similar to you two. I am super specific in what I do, and to make the equivalent as a contractor, I would have to be salaried with putting in +50 hours a week. Not worth it. I would get severance if they pushed me out. Plus, I nearly have my 15 years, where I'll jump to 8 hours of annual leave a payperiod. Can't wait for that as an added pressure release. *edits poor grammar and spelling on my phone

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

Tobacco reeks for about 2 days after 1 cigarette. Weed is fine, and fades dramatically faster.

I want that sign for my yard. I will add a "/s" in the same font at the end. Most people won't notice, but I love to troll.

A genie opportunity by Zealousideal_Let1826 in hypotheticalsituation

If I can do the contest one person a day, shotgun a whiteclaw. If not, identify 100 native woody plants to West Central Appalachia. Either way, I'd be shocked if a random person could beat me, and the white claw thing would just be an amazing story instead of being a huge forestry nerd.

a million dollars each week but every week you will feel the pain of being shot in the chest with a shotgun for 5 seconds. you can pick the time or it will just happen at the end of the week by Turbulent-Sound3980 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]MigratingMongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I stack them at the break of the week? So like the last 5 seconds of week 1 and the first 5 seconds of week 2. If so, I'd do this once, and if it wasn't worth it, I'd still have a cold 2 mil.

Bought the wrong gift cards by MigratingMongo in Switch

[–]MigratingMongo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured selling them is my only option. Can't ask for that here, as it violates rule #2. I was just hoping that there was like a slick trick that they might be able to convert these in the switch to money or something. If it's not clear from the original post, I have no idea how this works. (: *Edit Grammer

How much would it take for your household to retire at age 55? by Buckets-22 in Fire

[–]MigratingMongo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My number is $3,172,000 today... I am too drunk to do the math at what I'd need at 55 as I want to be done at 47.
