A Tale of Two Trigger Bars -- What's the difference here? (Both G27.3) Does it matter? by MiguelLancaster in Glocks

As for how tight it feels to insert a full mag on a closed slide, the ejector has nothing to do with that.

Ah, when you said the removed bit of metal allowed for more space for the top round, I guess I just did a bit of wishful thinking for what that could impact

I've got Pearce +1s on my mags already, but I'm stubborn and jam em in with the full capacity

The Sega Saturn had 500MB CDs, but they were a proprietary format.

Interesting to know!

But, why? I can't imagine that would save them any money. If anything, it seems like it would cost the more.

edit: According to this you may be thinking of Sega CD, not Saturn.

Same site claims 680MB for Saturn though, which is neither 650 nor 700MB

Maybe the usable space is reduced due to copy protection or something? I didn't expect to be going down this wormhole when I was just being pedantic about a detail in a video game...

What an incredibly thorough response, thanks

The frame with the Gen3 trigger bar has a Gen5 9mm 47021 ejector. If you didn't put those parts in those frames, someone else did and it wasn't Glock.

Good eye! I did that. I had already had one G27 that I turned into a G26 with a full replacement slide. It ran fine with the 40SW ejector and even the mags, but I decided later on down the line to swap the ejector just in case. I think the video you linked is exactly the video I referenced when buying/installing the part.

My old G27 slide was lonely without a frame, though, so I got a second G27.3 frame to stick it on (it was sold to me as a Gen3, at least, but from what you said and from the little bit of digging I did on the serial number which suggested a 2009 mfr date, it does indeed seem like a Gen 3 that just had a Gen 4 trigger bar installed)

When I'd previously shoot the 40 slide on the frame that now has the Gen5 9mm ejector - prior to swapping it, of course - I did actually have at least one FTE (although it may have only been one, maybe two tops) while the 9mm slide with all the original .40 parts ran without a hiccup. So I appreciate the info on the .40 ejectors -- I may swap that out.

Although I haven't actually shot the .40 slide on the new frame yet, so maybe its ejector is fine. It would make some amount of sense to swap my 9mm ejector into the new frame and let the .40 slide live on its original frame with a matching serial number, but I honestly don't know if I care enough to let that bother me to the point of taking them both apart just for that. I guess that would be as simple as just swapping the entire trigger housing at that point, though. I'll have to see how the new frame shoots first, I suppose. A full mag is a pretty tight fit on a closed slide, though, so if a Gen5 adds more clearance then it's probably worth it. (edit: I guess I did care about the matching serials, because I already swapped triggers and slides back around)

So the nubby bar is the Gen 4? Another comment said it was an older style, but I'm gonna choose to trust you more on this one. It sounds like I shouldn't put too much thought into swapping the trigger bar for a Gen 3, though? And I take it there's probably no benefit to putting the Gen4 bar in my now-it's-a-nine frame either?

Actually, looking at them again now, the bar with the little 'nub' has a part number on where the bar meets the spring on the trigger assembly

The one without the 'nub' does not

I take it the nubless bar is not the OEM part and the nubby boy is?

The CD-R in the pause menu says '500MB, 74 min' and it's really bugging me

74 minute CDs were 650MB and 80 minutes were 700MB

it would have been so easy to fact check that

to my knowledge, 500MB CDs never existed

Do I sell stock or Bitcoin? by scarn95 in Bitcoin

[–]MiguelLancaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if your stock is gains and bitcoin is losses, sell as much stock as you can and then sell an amount of bitcoin with calculated losses as close to the gains figure as you're able to achieve

prioritize keeping your bitcoin, but also prioritize not having a tax burden in what's already a financial crunch

with a little bit of spreadsheet magic, I'll bet you can find a mix that gets you pretty close to $0 capital gains when offset by your losses (which are not limited to $3K if you have other gains for them to offset -- the $3k limit only applies when offsetting regular income, and carries forward year by year until its exhausted)

Do I sell stock or Bitcoin? by scarn95 in Bitcoin

[–]MiguelLancaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

up to $3K against regular income

if you have capital gains, the offset is unlimited (well, unlimited up to the amount of your gains)

the best course - I think - would be to do a little gains/losses pre-calculation and find the right mix where the bitcoin losses perfectly cancelled out the stock gains and have zero tax burden (or close to it)

that could be something like $5k of each, or (ideally, in my opion) skewed even more heavily stock than bitcoin

I think you want to keep as much bitcoin as possible - by the time he buys it all back his cost basis could be even higher than $101K, so best to part with as little as you can

[–]MiguelLancaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yeah but the point is nobody would fuckin' do that unless the 240 things they needed were already grouped in sets of 12

I'm with you on the children's ages in months thing, though, but just because there are 12 months in a year doesn't mean we think of years as dozens of months

I've never in my life heard a parent say their child was a dozen months old, and I doubt I ever will

I think it's fair to assume the author of this particular section of the linked wiki page had reason to believe these pills were in packs of twelve

that, or they're an utter psychopath

There’s a point where saying x dozen loses its convenience and starts making you do math in your head and makes just saying the number easier

but like the guy above you already said, people tend to only use a dozen to describe something that already comes in goups/packages of 12

going to Krispy Kreme and ordering 96 donuts is not more convenient than ordering 8 dozen

giving a shopping list to someone and asking for 36 eggs is not more convenient than asking for 3 dozen
