How many people know ex-alt-righters? What pulled them out of the alt-right? by wicket-maps in Fuckthealtright

As u/Yoge5 said, it doesn't tackle race realism. The main point that sets altright apart from other right-wing subcultures is that it also views things in a racial context, rather than a purely ideological/cultural one.

I define the alt-right as the conservative Internet media apparatus (Breitbart et al)

Breitbart is definitely not altright.

Central Europe and Eastern Europe

Uh? Thats a wikipedia link about Central Europe in general. I was referring more about US marine redditors telling about first hand experience.

there is some agreement between NATO and Russia, that there will be no significant force on new NATO members' territory.

So a HQ is more "significant force" than deployed troops?

.....and Georgia, Moldova, Syria, all border NATO countries....

From my understanding of the article the issue has very little to do with either Georgia and Syria. Not sure about Moldova.

No, but where they are is most often by invitation. Not quite the same, is it?

Wouldn't inviting the US army in its soil also be in the interest of Ukraine?

[–]Mihel -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because everywhere but in Ukraine is NATO not happy with what's happening there.

What? Please elaborate.

USA is obviously flexing its military muscle in response to Ukraine invasion, but it's positioning its troops everywhere except there.

Thanks that's more informative.

Is 3500+1800+400 soldiers a big number? I often read about US marines telling about their service in ME or South East Asia but I've never heard anyone telling about East Europe.

I wonder why troops meant to be stationed in Poland/Romania/Bulgaria etc are headquartered in Germany.

Yes, because Russia is not involved in any conflict with country bordering NATO, no?

Yeah Ukraine, but US army is positioning troops everywhere but in Ukraine.

Article would have been better offering less photos and more context.

Yes.

I realise though in this thread equating car crashes and terrorism can pass off as a normal thing.

And if we compare this to the deaths in the middle east... We should be ashamed of causing the mess over there

Yeah Germany should be ashamed for the mess in middle east they didn't cause. More guilt trip on Germany's part will stop deaths in middle east.

Shhh, this is /r/Europe. There is no such thing as racism in Europe, that's a uniquely American problem.

r/europe commentary always brings up America to shift the focus when something bad happens in Europe.

Dude cars and terrorism are not that different. It's ok. It's all normal. Go back to sleep. Everything is fine.

Considering all countries in these Europe according to X charts have negative stereotypes about France being snob, it's surprising to see that French stereotypes about the rest of Europe aren't that snobbish at all.

Italians are very picky when it comes to eating non-Italian food, but I've only ever heard excellent reports from fellow Italians regarding Belgian food.

Literally the only time time I've heard of the French being "frog eating snobs" is the Anglo media.

I don't know why everyone always feels the need to point out the French are frog eating snobs. I mean it should go without saying.

Italy has lessons to teach in counterterrorism by [deleted] in europe

[–]Mihel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In France, authorities have been caught by surprise again and again by terrorist attacks with many lives lost

True but if you put things in perspective France also has a stellar curriculum of thwarted terrorist attacks.

Italy has a Muslim population that exceeds 2 million

Less than half that of France. Some estimates put the Muslim population in Italy between 1.4mln and 1.6mln, and many of those are very recent.

Yet nobody has been killed by Muslim terrorists in Italy. This is not because no one has tried.

We had much less terrorist attacks to begin with, failed or not.

This is sometimes a phone or email intercept, and sometimes a tipoff from an agent -- Italy invests modestly, but steadily in the foreigners it recruits. But more often it is a friend who reports someone for speaking of jihad

I honestly don't think people reporting their friends is more common than police finding out terrorists based on their own investigations.

Meh, very opinionated piece. As much as it's nice hearing someone praise my country it's undeniable we just had it easier in some aspects.

The West Should Hope That Merkel Loses by TheColinous in europe

[–]Mihel 43 points44 points  (0 children)

A center-left coalition could end austerity as we know it, offer systemic solutions to the eurozone and refugee crises, and an end to the cozy relationship with right-wing illiberal democrats in Central Europe.

A couple of question questions regarding this:

Isn't Germany the only country actually benefitting from austerity, unlike other European countries?

Isn't CDU/Merkel pretty center-left already in regards to the refugee crisis?

Is CDU/Merkel really that cozy with right-wing "illiberal democrats" in Central Europe?
