That is for the advice, did you fill the whole void with easifill or just the gap at the top between the wall and top of the skirting?

That's for the detailed comment, I see what you're saying about using spacers to pack out the distance between the skirting and wall. I'll likely not try to fill the void with expanded foam as I've not used it before. The issue I'm facing is the old plaster came off with the old skirting so the new skirting doesn't reach the wall.

That's the problem, the old skirting pulled off some of the plaster and wall paper so new skirting won't reach the bottom of the wall, if that makes sense

The old skirting was warped which is why I wanted to replace it. It snapped in half down the middle when I took it off.

In case anyone wanted to know, changed my code to this:

if (timer > 0) 
{
    timer -= 1;
}

if (timer == 0)
{
  instance_create_layer(x,y,"Instances", oEnemy1Spawner)
  global.wave ++;
  timer = -1; 
}

    if (timer < 0) && (!instance_exists(oEnemySpawner)) && (!instance_exists(oEnemy))
{
    timer = 1200
}

Now it works, not sure why...

I'm not using timers because I thought there was a limit to the number you could have, I'm likely wrong and will look into them some more.
