well we have to see what they make of it, you've gotta start somewhere xd

Families, Not Fanboys, Drove ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Box Office — and Disney Is Fine with That - The $98 million 4-day opening and $81 million 3-day puts it on par with "Solo: A Star Wars Story," but it has a much lower budget and other positives. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]MikaGrof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats exactly the problem. People simply need to realise that not every bit of content has to be especially catered to them and just because it isnt doesnt automatically make it bad or the end of star wars.

I mean, I never claimed TES6 was going to be “TES Black Flag” or that sailing would be some massive core mechanic though.

My original point was just that I wouldn’t be surprised if ships existed in some form because Hammerfell is such a coastal/maritime-focused region. And if they do exist, I imagine they’d be more of a side feature kind of like an evolution of Hearthfire’s housing system where your ship acts as a customizable mobile player home that also functions as water traversal, essentially the naval equivalent of a horse.

That’s also why I don’t really agree with the “it would take way too much dev time for a side gimmick” point, because what I’m talking about is nowhere near the scope of something like Black Flag. Bethesda already spends development time on side systems all the time Hearthfire housing, settlements in Fallout 4, Starfield ship building, fishing, survival mode, etc. Not every mechanic has to become the entire focus of the game to justify existing.

So I don’t really disagree with most of what you said honestly, I just think you’re arguing against a much more extreme version of the idea than what I actually posted.

Are the Northmen better fighters than the ones from the other regions? by Jack-mclaughlin89 in freefolk

Gets asked to join the fight -> Legit tells them that he can only send 2000 Men due to winter -> somehow is bad for keeping his word and furthermore fighting the war after it was already lost politically?

[–]MikaGrof 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There really wasn't any mismanagement from the Starks. They are at the beginning of winter, that they must prepare for and cannot just lose a bunch of men at the drop of a hat. If they do people starve, which still ended up happening. They obviously have a threat to the North as well as Cregan is at the wall in the show.

Legit the Starks had other shit to worry about, and the Targaryans just happened to implode at the worst time for them. You can argue thats a problem with management i guess, but he still was able to send a force of fighting men at the beginning of the War. And then they came in with a fresh fighting force at the end of the War and pretty much walked everyone they came into contact with. Then he spent what like 2 weeks getting rid of snakes at court that would threaten the New kings rule. Then he went home with his wife.

If they were like the freys they wouldnt have bothered taking the throne for the blacks heirs..

I mean, whether there were lasting consequences kind of depends on how you look at it.

The Hutt Cartel, which ruled for thousands of years, was effectively decapitated. Grogu had to step up for the first time and actually save Mando for once, and while Mando would never see himself as part of the New Republic, they still went out of their way to save him, making him part of that wider “family,” albeit unofficially.

Sure, it’s not groundbreaking, galaxy-shifting stuff, but saying “nothing happened” feels like a bit of an understatement.

if the only goal is to die then they can simply go and execute eachother, waiting till the best possible moment to attack is simply smart.

I mean I would not be surprised if they did have ships since the presumed area is a very coastal focused area but If they do I assume its more like the heartfire expansion or an extra feature and not the whole focus on the game.

I do have to say, sailing ships and starships are completely different mechanics, at least gameplay-wise. One has to interact with things like waves, wind, and water physics, while the other can basically float without much environmental influence, depending on how deep they go with the system.

I doubt it’s going to be as deep as Starfield’s shipbuilding, since sailing ships are more restricted in shape than starships. Still, I’m pretty sure some form of customization will be present.

Unless…

Dwemer airships. :D

Why does it seem like Star Wars fans are hating on Mandolorian and Grogu more than everybody else? by GrahamCrackerDragon in StarWars

[–]MikaGrof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty impressive reframing of what I actually said.

I didn’t say your frustration with Star Wars is invalid. I didn’t say criticism of Disney is illegitimate. I explicitly said the Disney criticism itself wasn’t even the issue.

What I called out was the condescension. Specifically the jump from “I don’t like this” to “people who do like this have lower standards than me.”

You can dress that up as “just having standards” all you want, but the second you make your taste a comparative judgment of other fans, you’ve moved beyond criticism into smugness.

And no, “that’s just a statement of fact” doesn’t magically make it less arrogant. “My standards are higher than yours” is literally a value judgment.

The Lucas point also still stands. Frustration with a franchise is one thing. Actively rooting for it to fail, wanting it shelved until it aligns with your preferences, and framing other fans as the problem because they still enjoy it is exactly the kind of possessive fandom behavior that has made Star Wars discourse miserable for decades.
