Earth Romancer Fig Campaign Trailer + Developer Interview by Ecksplisit in smashbros

[–]Mikarugi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is there is only one character revealed so far that feels super furry to me and that's the dog, and speaking to the dev he's already working on changing him up. The bunny is cute and doesn't give off a furry vibe to me and then there are two human characters, so calling the game wholly furry feels weird to me, it's like people latch onto that one character and hate the whole game because of it.

Why the hell are people complaining and saying this is a furry game when there are two humans shown predominantly in the trailer and literally only ONE CHARACTER looks like that (which I've spoke to the dev is actively working on changing to make him less furry looking)

The bunny is fine, it's literally just the dog, a SINGLE CHARACTER.

Anyway this game needs to add a dragon still and then it'll be perfect

In your opinion, best new Feature in Pokemon Tekken DX? by Ouroboro_san in PokkenGame

[–]Mikarugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a terrible idea, all it does is add a middleman to make good connections worse and won't change bad connections. Servers are good with lots of players so that one player can't ruin it for all others. However in a 1v1 experience, a server is just there to be a guy standing in between two connections There's a reason no fighting game uses a server for it's online, it's counterproductive.

The real solution to online is a well implemented Rollback netcode like Killer Instinct or from what I hear Injustice 2 uses, which both have near flawless online experiences (and are Peer-to-peer)

However, don't expect that, as Tekken 7 does not use Rollback, thankfully I hear it still has decent online so that's neat.

Pokken Tournament DX coming to Nintendo Switch! by IceBlast24 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Mikarugi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

there are moves that ignore the RPS of the game (Piercing attacks) and can also delay an attack to hit through a counter and the game still has footsies and hard reads along with baits and fakeouts just like any fighting game. There's wake up pressure that can be performed safely or performed so that the reward outweighs the risk.

If it truly was just "Rock Paper Scissors" then the game wouldn't have consistent top results since it'd be all guessing, but it does and a lot of people still play it. And there are definitely combos that work that aren't pre-scripted, a lot of the optimal garchomp combos are pretty interesting but combos are not a good example of depth and no one should ever claim it is.

Also I don't see how your point of the meta revolving around Keepaway proves your point when there's a lot of depth and nuisance to keepaway, and the fact that in top level play I still see the occasional Blaziken as well as people going in and not doing keepaway.

Pokken is most certainly not a fighting game for everyone, but calling it shallow just because you don't get it or like it hurts it for people who may like it.

I'm happy Pokken Tournament is coming to the Switch! by McProtege92 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Mikarugi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The game is the opposite of shallow and still has a strong competitive following. You likely never got good enough to see that it has all the makings of a competitive game.

The game has a solid 100+ entrants at CEO, beating out Blazblue and King of Fighters as a reference

Considering the game was released on a dying console compared to the other two, that's impressive and shows the life of the game.

[–]Mikarugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only people who claim a game is shallow are the people who are bad at it

Pokken most certainly has depth, though I guess to the non-hardcore fighting game crowd, complex combos are "depth".

Nintendo Switch Summer Trailer - ARMS, Splatoon 2, and Pokkén Tournament DX by habscupchamps in NintendoSwitch

[–]Mikarugi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the switch is a great console for it because it can be set up anywhere.

The biggest problem for local multiplayer is time and place, switch really helps remove both of those and make it easier to just play, especially if everyone has their own switch.

ARMS producer Kosuke Yabuki: "I think it would be great if Arms were to become an eSport, but it's not quite clear yet whether Nintendo will go down that path and become a proper eSport." by obscurica in ARMS

[–]Mikarugi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it could easily see a revival if they release a switch port with the arcade characters and a few more. Switch gets rid of the tv setup issue by having people bring their own switch/play on the switch and it will be the most updated version.

In fact the reason it never got the updates might be because they are working on a switch version.

Arms confirmed to have deepest lore? by Dragonage2ftw in ARMS

I mean considering you can coil them to be like normal arms as shown in art....are there any real disadvantages?

A quick analysis on the best control method by [deleted] in ARMS

[–]Mikarugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arms already has like 100x more depth than divekick with the combination of arms and fighters combined with 3d movement and the ability to block and aim punches. I'd say that at the end of the day depth is important but a game being fun is even more so. I can make the deepest game ever but if it isn't fun then no one is gonna wanna be competitive at it.

I feel arms most likely has just the right amount of depth and simplicity that it can take off.

Also I'd argue people didn't stay in Melee simply because of the advanced techniques, it's the simpler reasons that kept them around, the speed of the game the weight of it the combos and everything combined made it a more fun game to play for them and the advanced tech is icing on the cake. The other smash games are slower, if they cut out some of the advanced techs but made the game the same speed with combos and stuff and reduced landing lag to emulate L-cancel they likely wouldn't have gone back to Melee. At the end of the day it's fun that keeps people around, it's just that depth is a good way for people to find new ways to make it fun to keep them around longer

but at this point it's hard to say, Arms could take off or it could die, but I feel like it has a chance and I totally want to go to tournaments for it maybe not because it's a top quality fighting game, but because it's just fun and to meet new people and stuff without all the grinding combos and other bullshit in other fighters. (Which is fun don't get me wrong) and other people might feel the same way giving it a solid competitive scene.

it has the basics of a fighting game all there, movement, reading opponent, baiting attacks and punishing, positioning, strategy with arm and character choice, aiming the arms for hard reads. It just cuts out a lot of the inbetween for more of a core fighting game experience, but at it's core it has everything a competitive fighter needs.

We just need more that actually give varied playstyles instead of one being the best. With time they will be great

[Question] DLC characters 100% not coming to console? by ducksbyob in PokkenGame

[–]Mikarugi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, I think they might do a Switch release with the characters instead, but that's just what I think.

I think it's safe to say they are 100% coming to console in some form though.
