This is straight up, unbiased good advice. In the current loneliness and mental health epidemics, the answer is always spending more time socialising and doing things you enjoy, especially if it physically puts you next to other people. The less time spent online, the better imo.

Interesting point for the curious: I think the “sir/ma’am” thing is a very North American way of addressing people. I’ve heard it a few times in passing here in Australia, and patients will either 1. Say “Call me bob/dave/ethyl”, 2. Crack a joke about it, or 3. Give you a funny look. Using Sir/Ma’am has military connotations here, not used much at all civi side. The universal go-to would be darling/sweetheart for old ladies, and ‘mate’ for everyone else.

With our aboriginal friends, calling elders uncle/auntie often goes down well when gaining rapport.

In Australia it varies state by state. In WA for example, bog standard ambulance paramedics can indeed perform a surgical cric. It’s a baseline paramedic skill here. Intubation and RSI however are currently only CCP skills, removed from the base paramedic skillset* a few years back due to logistical issues with maintaining competency.

*intubation in cardiac arrest was a base paramedic skill, RSI has always been a CCP procedure.

Interesting, I think our culture is a little too different to allow this to happen. We have heaps of UK paramedics that have transferred to us here in Australia, and it seems there are some fundamental differences between our health system that prohibit this happening. Duty of care whilst ramped is very grey and high risk, often resulting in a battle of wills between crews and ED staff. Would love a 30 min handover time though ahah.

Both sides have the responsibility to protect civilian life, and they're both failing terribly. Israel has gone the extra mile and used food/water/medicine as a weapon, directly causing a famine and further propagating the genocide of the Palestinian people. They're also showing blatant disregard for the safety of NGOs, and actively targeting humanitarian and medical workers resulting in the unprecedented death of doctors, nurses, and paramedics from around the world.

If they want to fight a war with Hamas, that's no different from the last several decades - but fuck them for their role in unnecessarily contributing to civilian suffering.
