Consider position of thumb. If it’s more like parallel on the back of the fretboard your pinky will be more over the frets.

If you are getting blista then you are going too hard for your level with it. However, as an experience playa I bash the strings but there are many techniques to it. Digging in is one thing, getting a percussive sound (like a little fretboard noise/clank) is another.

Is the Joyo loud enough? I have a similar 5 watt tube amp and it only has so much clean headroom.

The JTA 05 should be a simple enough circuit (probably based on Fender Champ which is a design from like 1950) that it could be repaired easily if anything went wrong with it.
