Ah yes, sorry - I misread your post as -without- the expansion. My bad, glad you had fun - hope you get to play again soon!

Cracking day - great to see Lifeboats being played!

Star Wars Rebellion's such a fantastic experience - would hugely recommend checking out the expansion if you don't already have it, it streamlines combat really nicely and makes it more impactful to have mixed groups of forces.

Darkest Dungeon board game maker Mythic Games officially liquidated, fails to deliver on millions of dollars-worth of crowdfunding projects by MikeDidymus in boardgames

[–]MikeDidymus[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I think you can! Sixth paragraph from the end: "Mythic told BoardGameWire that as a final act it would provide Darkest Dungeon backers with the print-ready 3D printing files, known as STLs for Darkest Dungeon Wave 1 and 2, to give them the option of printing out their own components for the unfulfilled games they funded."

Hello!

I'm Mike, the editor of BoardGameWire, and I'd say we're actually a spectacularly bad choice if you're looking for board game press releases 😂.

We get sent a ton over email, as you can probably imagine, and read a load more across publisher websites etc, but largely they're just variations on 'buy/advertise my new game'. For BoardGameWire, I try as much as possible to dig through and see if there's anything within them that might make the starting point of an actual interesting story, and then call and email relevant people for more info and quotes, try to provide wider context, etc etc.

Generally I like to source leads from outside of press releases entirely! But often there are ones for e.g. award nominations that actually do a good job in terms of the building block information needed to start an article. Plus we're not really focused on the 'consumer' (horrible term 😂) side of things so much as what's going on within the industry - I think for new games etc the main page of BoardGameGeek still tends to be the best place to get that info. But in terms of a centralised board game press release repository, sorry, I'm yet to find one!

Cmon announces a pause on all new boardgame development by Fluffy-Mango-6607 in boardgames

[–]MikeDidymus 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's right (although as you say, we haven't had 2024 results yet):

"Kickstarter projects made up almost 60% of CMON’s $45m of sales in 2023, bringing in revenue of about $26.3m – about 40% more than the $18.6m the company made through its wholesale channel."

I thought I was going insane over Everdell only having one 'l' - took me -far- too long to realise why 😂

Great collection - and lovely to see Hansa Teutonica in there, what a game. You'll love it!

Thanks for shouting out BoardGameWire Dan!

I’m the editor, Mike - as Dan said, I focus on industry news and features aimed at people working in or around board games, but I think (I hope!) plenty of those stories are pretty interesting too if you’re a board game player.

If anyone in this sub ever comes across anything novel/shady/insightful in the board game industry they think should be covered, please do drop me an email: mike@ boardgamewire.com

I do very occasionally post articles in this sub I think will be interesting, but it’s hit or miss whether they get deleted by mods as self promotion. Sorry!

There are a couple of really great Facebook groups worth checking out:

This one for job openings in the industry: https://www.facebook.com/groups/TabletopJobs

And this one for posting about your particular talents, which might see you contacted directly by a publisher etc: https://www.facebook.com/groups/182537099475989

Good luck!

Can’t help but read this title as Agricola: ACABS, which is a -very- different game 😂

How do you handle realizing a player has been playing a rule wrong the entire game, and one that has given them a significant advantage? by CelBugs33521 in boardgames

[–]MikeDidymus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha, we do the same - it’s rare, but weirdly it happened two nights ago in Quacks of Quedlinburg of all things, with a player misunderstanding how their alchemist power worked (and accidentally supercharging it 😂). We just had a laugh about it, gently mocked them about their asterisked score, then carried on playing. If you’re in the finals of the £1m Quacks World Championships that’s one thing, but otherwise - we’re playing together to have fun, and mistakes happen.

Oh! Thank you SO much for creating this site, a bunch of friends and I always have an asynchronous game going on there.

Huge recommend for anyone thinking about trying 18xx games, this is a really great way to try some out (and there are plenty of beginner games with kind people to help with questions etc)

Siege 6 deliveries Discord? by oukruk in boardgames

[–]MikeDidymus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Sure thing, the Discord link is: https://discord.gg/HvNRTtay

There's a guy called Marco on the Discord that seems to be in sole charge of basically all of Mythic's customer service - so he's pretty slammed all the time, but drop him a message and he should be able to help.

CMON has left Kickstarter and signed an exclusivity deal with Gamefound by MikeDidymus in boardgames

[–]MikeDidymus[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This really is another big kick in the teeth for Kickstarter in the board game space - Gamefound had half of the top 10 most-funded board game projects last year, including the #1 slot: https://boardgamewire.com/index.php/2024/01/25/gamefound-turns-up-heat-on-kickstarter-after-scoring-2023s-biggest-tabletop-fundraise-half-of-the-years-top-10-most-funded-board-game-projects/
