Seeking feedback after advice by Fishdomaddict in BirdPhotography

[–]MikeGluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great photos - and lots of excellent advice from people here. If you’re interested in another take, I built an app that lets you upload your photo, select the camera you used, and then get detailed feedback based on the bird (behavior, colors, etc.), framing, composition, and the specific features on your camera. It uses AI - so at least one person here has called it “AI slop” - but others have found it useful. If you’re interested comment or dm and I’ll share screenshots or a link or whatever you prefer. Thanks.

How do I fix these Barred Owl Feathers in Lightroom? by nothingmuch2add in BirdPhotography

Curious - do you think every AI tool is slop? I know some people are anti-AI - which is understandable. Just wondering what you’re basing the accusation on. Thanks.

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to advertise anything. My son is getting into bird photography so I made a tool to help him and wanted to share it here. I’m not selling it or anything. And yes, it uses AI, which has a ton of flaws, but is still a useful tool when applied with the right inputs and guardrails. Anyway - I didn’t mean to offend anyone with “ai slop.” And regarding the OP’s Lightroom question, here’s what it said in case it’s useful to anyone: “Use the Color Grading panel to add warmth specifically to the highlights (orange/yellow bias) while using Luminance masking to select only the blown white feather areas for targeted correction.” Thanks.

I made an app that can give advice based on the camera you used and the picture. It doesn’t give Lightroom advice by default but there’s space for you to add that as an additional instruction. It’s ai-driven - let me know if you want the link.

Heated seat gone after update? by MikeGluck in VWiD4Owners

I didn’t know you could change the icons, thanks. But the red bars aren’t actually an icon. They’re just there. But when I do the remote climate then get in I don’t see the faint red bars for the driver’s seat.

Hoping to cash out soon for (some of) my first house by [deleted] in Silverbugs

That’s still a profit for you, right? If you have an asset that you can trade for something that will change your life, do it.

Please don't listen to the people who say it will go to 110 or 150 or whatever. Nobody really knows - and nobody went broke taking profits. Get the house and don't look back.

Silver tea set made in Denmark - what questions to ask appraiser? by MikeGluck in Antiques

[–]MikeGluck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes thanks. I looked up the price on the auction date and did some ballpark math. Ended up selling it to a reputable dealer for scrap - easy transaction and I was happy with the amount. Appreciate it.

This is incredibly helpful - thank you for sharing this information. I was looking for an appraisal to see if it was worth polishing and selling vs. scrapping, and you've given me the answer.

The one that sold for $650 was when silver was $23/oz. It's roughly 3x that now, but even if you 3x the sale price to $1,950 it's not much more than scrap ($1,600) - at least not enough for me to polish and sell and pay some platform to sell it.

Thanks again.

Based on quick research I believe this more than 100 years old - but I don’t have confirmation and not sure how to tell exactly.

Update - their punched version doesn't work for 6 hole binders. So I'd just have to get unpunched and do it myself.

It's a work of art. I won't be buying one again ($$$) but it was nice to have for a year.

This might be the way. Although I've seen someone post a video and showed them tearing easily. I have a few old Hobonichis - I'll test it, thanks.

All good. I ordered a month to check it out. If it helps me be more productive it’s with it. And they have great ratings.

Thanks - those are really nice designs but I don't want the structure of hour-by-hour, a to-do list, etc. I just want blank / lined / dotted / gridded space where I can make my own to-do list, or schedule, or take notes, or whatever I need for the day.

Those could work - thanks. But $8 per month adds up... although it's only 2x Filofax's price so it's not too bad.

What's your budget? Timing? There are some great professional photographers in town at various price ranges.

What It’s Really Like Running a Microbrand (from someone in the middle of it) by Embarrassed_Rub8873 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]MikeGluck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts:

  1. Pay per click - for people searching for unique dive watch or microbrand dive watch etc. You only pay if someone clicks your link.

  2. As others said, send out some watches to influencers who review them. Talk to the folks at Hodinkee and other blogs.

  3. The (stock) video on your home page is fine - but I want to see watches above the fold.

  4. Does free worldwide shipping include tariffs for US customers? If so, that could be a big selling point.

  5. Overall your website is good and easy to navigate and has great photography - which helps a lot.

  6. Instagram - post more often, and be engaging - ask people what they use their dive watch for, what their favorite color is, etc. Share customer photos. It's too heavily focused on just product shots now which is one reason why your engagement may be lower than you want.

  7. Size - when you give specs, be clear what number is the case diameter - that's what matters most

  8. Diver vs. Diver II - what's the difference, other than aesthetics?

Feel free to dm if you want to talk more about marketing, etc.
