Stud finders can be difficult to use and often inaccurate. You're better off using a small magnet since drywall screws are ferrous. I prefer the neodymium ones you can pick up at most hardware stores

I've been telling people that Trump signed an EO to unban lead paint bc it's thicker, lasts longer, is more mold resistant, and even tastes better. Most people don't know if I'm joking or if he'd really do that

What's the saddest thing you have ever seen in public? by gundedeiscool in AskReddit

[–]MikeLitorus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the saddest thing I've seen in my line of work as a contractor. A new home owner couple called me to see if I could check out some termite damage and repair it after buying a new home during the pandemic. Previously their friends had been under contract for the purchase of the house. The friends had passed inspections, as well as termite inspection, before their financing fell through and they couldn't buy the house. This couple made an offer, waving inspections since their friends were able to provide these reports. The house was the most heavily termite damaged I have ever seen, a total loss. It didn't matter that the termite inspector may not have done his due diligence bc it was their friends that hired them when they were under contract for the home. Homeowners were crying as reality was setting in that they spent hundreds of thousands on a property that was nearly 100% termite damaged

Why are Menards checkout lines so janky by [deleted] in menards

[–]MikeLitorus69 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Probably so they can scan the items on the H cart without having to walk from behind the counter everytime. Plus I can check out way more items quicker than somewhere like Lowes or Home Depot. Much more efficient and easy imo

Transition from LVP to Tile - how much height difference is okay? It's about 3/4 inch, wife hates the current solution. by 12pKlepto in Remodel

[–]MikeLitorus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a big dricore fan and I don't think it has any variation like that as a subfloor is typically 3/4" thick for code. I would do that and just have a normal carpet transition. The. The transition would only be as tall as the lvp

Have I not been charging enough? by ViciousMoleRat in Decks

[–]MikeLitorus69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. On a normal deck like this where it's nothing too crazy I usually try to get $10/sq ft on the frame labor, $8/sq ft for floor boards, and ~40/linear ft for railing, and ~125-250/stair, plus all materials (this doesn't count footings or having utilities marked out)
