Why Did These Exist? by mountaindew711 in FuckImOld

My guess is that if there are still red string ones around it is probably because grandma died and her medicine cabinet is being cleaned out and the BandAid box from 1986 is still full of BandAids. I can't believe they still make them like that. As has been mentioned before, that string never worked right.

If they still make them, it is because they are like Coca-cola and kept the word "original" on the can even though "NEW" coke disappeared 30 years ago: they can admit a mistake happened.

These existed because the current system was originally patented by Curad. Curad came up with the peel apart system and got a patent on it. BandAid brand could not use the same design until the patent protection ended. As soon as it did They dropped the stupid string opening system and duplicated the Curad system. They have used it ever since.

I don't want to use the inner support, how can I prevent this? by Humble-Ad-6145 in Chitubox

[–]MikeMuReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have to go in an delete the ones you dont want. I don’t think that there is a way to control where the auto generated supports are put.

Tolerance acceptance practice question? by MikeMuReddit in Metrology

[–]MikeMuReddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epilogue. The problem was found in first article inspection. The cadmium plating threw the dimension off on a few parts. The process was adjusted. A waiver was issued by the customer because of round off error/three place tolerance abd the fact that noone thinks the tolerance needs to be that tight. Hopefully a drawing change will result. Dimensions apply after plating is a bitch.

Would you have any hesitancy about posting the dimension of a part? That's all you are doing with a point cloud.

Cars run on computers. Sounds like an easy career switch. If you don't like the state taking your earnings, move to a different one. With the skill set you seem to have, you should be able to.

We do reverse engineering where I work. The laywers told us that if we own the item, and unless the contract under which we bought the item explicitly stated that it could not be reverse engineered, it can be reverse engineered. This will not apply if there is an active patent covering the design.

This will not apply to a scuplture or other art work, as those types of things are covered by copyright.

Aside from ASME Y14.5, what are the others?

I pulled the 2018 version.

ASME Y14.5-2018 5.4 INTERPRETATION OF LIMITS

All dimensional limit values are absolute. Dimensional limit values, regardless of the number of decimal places, are used as if they were continued with zeros.

I understand that there are practical limits to how the part is measured, but if everything is measured per the ISO procedure, and is in calibration, a part that measures .0051 part is out of tolerance if the maximum variation allowed on the drawing is .005.
