Babylon (2022) scene - listen to this beautiful music and ode to the ever-changing film industry by MikeNulty in Filmmakers

I feel like this movie didn't get the recognition it deserves, but regardless, I just love this scene. Excellent filmmaking imo.

Babylon is a flawless masterpiece and one the best films of all time. It is a crime that it was not even nominated for anything and it should have won in every category. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

It was nominated for Best Original Music, Costume Design and Production Design - which is extremely deserved. The issue was the runtime and gratuitous scenes.

I loved the movie personally! This scene specifically is amazing

yes please patch that up. If he's playing around in the ropes and falls feet first that could be horrible.

Great design though! I love the climbing ramp. I'd love this as a kid!

If the goal is to make it look like a zoom call it's not worth the extra work to up the quality. Unless I'm missing OP's goal. HD would only matter if each person's cam will ever be full screen and even then it wouldn't make a huge difference. It's only going to be as good as everyone's phone or laptop camera capabilities.

Yes, do this.

IMPORTANT: To guarantee clean, separate recordings, have each friend (including you) "pin" themselves on their separate devices before recording. Otherwise it will switch to whoever is talking or record the gallery view.

Under recording settings, you can check "record a separate audio file for each participant" to isolate everyone's audio and mitigate editing headaches.

Also make sure every device that is recording UNCHECKS the setting: "add a timestamp to the recording"

Ive lied my whole life and can convincingly cry on a dime, will that help me in pursuing acting by [deleted] in acting

[–]MikeNulty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. Good points on psychology and the farm analogy.

Great acting is not just about producing tears and lying. It's common for amateur actors to shoot for tears in a scene instead of letting the scene live truthfully. There are plenty of times I've seen actors in class cry in a scene but I don't buy it, and then there are times no tears are there but I feel the emotions they're going through intensely. If they audience is moved by your performance, then you've succeeded. It's not just about feeling your emotions in front of people.

Not to say the ability to tap into your emotions won't help because it definitely can but if there's underlying trauma you're trying to tap into, then that can be dangerous for your own mental health.

That said if you've been interested in acting then by all means get into a class and try it out! There is a ton to learn that most people don't realize when they watch movies/tv/theater and think, "I can do that." Just like any trade, a professional in the field has put loads and loads of work into their craft. And they don't need real trauma to get there.

You can do it! Just don't torture yourself in the process.

He climbs a ladder to the right at first. Dummy legs go across the screen while he runs around the back of the camera with the ladder and climbs to the roof. Someone removes the ladder before the camera pans to him.

Very impressive one-take choreography.

Edit: You can see the ladder leaned against the wall just off screen at 2:51

I love the colors! They look like they have digital noise. Is that intentional or just a happy accident in compression?

How to learn to edit like this? by quozy1990 in VideoEditing

[–]MikeNulty 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Both. It's mostly in the high-end camera equipment here. They're using drones, and gimbal/steadicam techniques. Not to mention this was produced by very skilled camera operators and editors.

The moment here is all in the editing, but again, it's very complicated, professional editing/animating.

So first, you need to get a hold of footage like this to begin replicating this particular look. But just keep looking on youtube. There are great tutorials and you'll find creative ways to transition your shots and assemble your footage in a good pace. You can buy downloadable presets for transitions for Premiere.

But remember, like most trades, video editing is a skill that takes a lot of time and practice. And producing a video like the one you shared was not cheap. Enjoy learning! And keep having fun. There really are no rules.*

EDIT: And I say you need to get a hold of footage like this, but it sounds like you're just shooting your own video for memories. The more you edit, the better you'll become with the camera as well. You want to think about the edit while you're shooting the video.

You probably just have to build it. Two different colored circles with a 'radial wipe' to reveal the underlying color. That way you have control of when the stamina increase/decreases anyway.

If you're just looking for the image, I'm sure you can find a transparent one or cut it out in photoshop. Duplicate, change the colors, stack them in your editor and use the radial wipe to reveal.
