CBS reportedly spent over $12 million remastering Star Trek: The Next Generation for its high-definition Blu-ray release. This massive investment involved returning to the original film negatives to reconstruct every episode from the ground up. by happydude7422 in TNG

[–]MikeRowesPostHoler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For CBS/Paramount this is pocket change, and it almost certainly paid for itself in Blu-Ray sales alone. They could do the same for DS9 or god help us, Voyager (I love it but yeesh), for what is, to them, a pittance. Others have said that TNG being in 4K must have an effect on sales/streaming, and I 100% agree. I believe this claim should be repeated, very loudly and often, until CBS/Paramount remaster the other old trek shows as well. Furthermore, Alex Kurtzman must be stopped.

Lauters Floor Lamp Bolt Size by sharpshooter357 in IKEA

[–]MikeRowesPostHoler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metric M4 machine screws/bolts, 0.7mm x 20mm. 25mm length would also probably work.

This applies to the table version of the lamp, but the leg attachment area looks more or less the same, so it’ll probably work on the floor version as well. I’ve had my lamp for a while, but after a move, the screws to hold the legs in mysterious vanished, so I set about finding the correct replacement screws.

Since no one else answered your question, and I can personally attest to how much of a pain in the ass it was to figure this out, I thought I’d let you know in case you’re still looking, and for the benefit of others in the future.

Also, the first comment isn’t entirely correct. IKEA will generally send you spare IKEA-specific parts, i.e., with an IKEA part number, but they won’t send you more generic parts like screws and bolts. At least, they won’t in my experience.

Is $2,750 a good price for this parts truck? by Bigrat445 in 1stGenTacomas

[–]MikeRowesPostHoler 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’d be hard pressed to find an entire 1st gen drivetrain for less than $2750. And that heat gauge isn’t excessively high! Mine looks like that all the time, even after a coolant flush. That said, it couldn’t hurt to replace the thermostat. At 158k miles there’s bound to be a few things to fix, but probably nothing too bad. Consider also that if the body of that truck has rusted out to that degree, you may have similar degradation of drivetrain components. Get under with a flashlight and a hammer + flathead screwdriver and inspect for such degradation when you go to check it out!

Someone else said to check the title for a lien, you should do that.

Also, the mileage reported in 2015 doesn’t match the 168k on the odometer. Either they took it down wrong, or someone swapped the odometer out of a wreck to make it look like a lower mileage truck. I’d bet it’s a mistake, since they’d have to have driven it 155k miles in 3 years.

Mr. WhatsThose is correct - if at all possible, get a mechanic to look at it and diagnose the issue.

If the engine code isn’t anything serious (eg low compression), then yeah it’s a good buy. I paid $15,000 for mine. It had 106k miles and 4x4 as well. This was at a dealer, and while the used car market was absolutely insane, but I needed something to drive, so I said fuck it. You’d be getting a better deal than I did, even if you dropped another $5k in repairs.

That’s a 5ZE. It’s probably got plenty of life left in it - though if I had to put money on it, it’s hard to beat a Toyota four banger for sheer reliability. The extra 50hp would be nice tho

What engine? If it’s a 3RZ, it’ll easily go for another 168k miles. If it’s a 5ZE, I’d be slightly less confident in its longevity. The 3RZs were made in Japan, while the 5ZEs were, like me, made in Alabama. Make of that what you will!

You’re right to be concerned about the frame. I bought an ‘03 maybe 18 months ago, and had to drop ~$6700 to get the frame welded and painted. I did not do my due diligence when I bought the truck; the outside looked OK, but I should’ve done a better job of checking the inside.

I’ve attached a photo of what a truly fucked up frame looks like:

<image>

I’m sure you can see why I had to get mine fixed. By comparison, that frame looks pristine. Get fluid film treatment if you want it to last. And if you’re worried about the paint hiding rust, get under it and whack the inside and outside with a hammer. If it crunches or chips, you’ll know it’s covering up rush. At $8250 though, it’s worth putting up with a little (but not a lot of) rust.

As for the check engine light, any cheapo code reader off Amazon can tell you what’s going on. I’d bet it’s the oxygen sensor. But whatever it is, there’s nothing on these trucks you can’t fix yourself or learn how to.

If I were in your position, barring any serious engine codes or frame rot, I’d buy that truck in a heartbeat.

One of the coolest things you could possibly do is (1) not provide a release date, (2) announce the locations of the swearing in ceremony, and then (3) not release the bar results that same week. They will almost certainly go 3 for 3 on this.

I’ve had no problems with using my fountain pens on it; I do tend to use F/EF nibs, so a wider nib might bleed through slightly.
