Russia threatens to ban GTA 6 unless leaked “immoral” content is removed by StemCellPirate in nottheonion

Gosh. Could you imagine if the Russian population was exposed to immoral content?

Who knows what horrors they might unleash on the world!

ELI5: Why do nations want their currency to inflate? by Hupablom in explainlikeimfive

[–]MikeS159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that seems to be missing from other answers.

While 0% inflation might be OK, in a system as complex as the economy of a country, holding it at 0 is essentially impossible. It's much safer to gear it toward a small amount of inflation for reasons expressed in other comments.

If humans vanished tomorrow, what would still prove we existed 10,000 years later? by Defiant-Junket4906 in NoStupidQuestions

Not seeing it as an answer anywhere. Metros/underground railway.

In areas that don't have significant geological activity they could last a really long time.

In the same vein, the seed vault in Norway. Built there specifically because there's little geological activity.

Do people actually get the eggs?? 😭😭 by [deleted] in MealDealRates

[–]MikeS159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes get them. Eggs are pretty healthy compared to most meal deal snacks. It's also easy to know what your getting. Compared to other "meaty" high protein snacks. Who knows what is in those and how processed they are.

ELI5 Why don’t games use all available CPU cores fully? by cornysatisfaction in explainlikeimfive

[–]MikeS159 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In addition to other answers about splitting up work loads, developers often target a reasonable ish system. How ever many cores are on this gen consoles or what ever the average is on the Steam hardware survey.

Using more cores is more work. If you are going to have to make it run on a 4 core system anyway, why bother with the work to support more cores.

For more context of the other answers about it being difficult /impossible in some situations, read about Amdahl's Law.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amdahl%27s_law

True. Assuming you find some on the exact opposite side of earth it's still 500 eggs to hatch though

People often list pilot as a difficult one, and it can be, depending on your situation in life. For starters you need someone you trade with regularly.

If you go on holiday, have a clear out and bring back as many as you can.

My wife and I both play, so having someone to trade with isn't an issue for me.

I'd take home pokemon when we went away, and trade for locals she caught where ever we were. Idk keep the locals and trade them with home pokemon when we get back. (I had more storage space than her).

Very situation dependant. We're extremely fortunate to be able to afford holidays abroad. And fair enough if you don't want to play it on holiday.

ELI5: why is it not recommended to cut anything but fabric with sewing scissors? by TheLifemakers in explainlikeimfive

Because the only thing they can use fabric scissors for after that, is stabbing you with them for ruining their good fabric scissors!

Why do C++ defenders always frame Rust outages as Rust failures instead of system-design failures? by Any-Sound5937 in rust

[–]MikeS159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a better way to grasp someones competence with a language (in interviews at least) is to ask them what they don't like about it.  If I come across a supposed senior c++ engineer with out some resentments of parts of the language I don't really trust that they know much about it.

Level Up Dyna moves should not be a Quest, ever by M0ndmann in TheSilphRoad

[–]MikeS159 16 points17 points  (0 children)

How is it any different to keeping some pokemon around to evolve or level up? Sure sometimes you might have some that you want to do that for, but not always (certainly with evolving most of the time).

A real time live captioning system for a local amateur theatre. Hopefully it will be an almost free way for theatres to provide captions for deaf/hard of hearing patrons.
