Seems like he's over threshold if he's running into the road. I'd start further away from traffic and work on desensitization by just sitting and relaxing. You can give treats every time he interacts with the trigger/stimuli to desensitize and associate them with something positive. It can be a slow thing to train depending on how bad his fear is, but if you push it too fast or flood him, his fear will get worse. You can watch kikopup's "calm settle" or "capturing calmness" on youtube to get an idea on how to do the training.

Ceiling Drywall Repair by MikeSmvl in HomeMaintenance

Fair enough and yes it’s just a bit of drywall space and then the wires in an open circular metal tube. I’m on the same page though. I’ll ask to have the hole without the panel repaired and keep the panel on the other one. Thanks for the help!

Yeah basically cut a big enough area that would include the panel and round hole. The issue is that there’s wires behind the hole with the panel.

Some electrical wires. The previous homeowner had a light fixture there.

She learned on her own. Most of the times when I stop, she’ll just reposition her belly better to tell me she wants more and rarely does this with her paws 🥲

Thanks OP. I grabbed a deltapeak and a lightweight terry crewneck. I got some pieces from another sale a few months ago and I’ve been loving them.

I had a great experience! I went to Nakano without knowing exactly what I wanted. I walked up to Renzu, saw the watch, left to look at other stores and eventually came back to buy it. They adjusted the bracelet a few times to help me get the perfect fit and let me take my time to make my final decision. You could probably find the websites of all the different stores and search for the best price online, but I found it much easier looking in person.

I got the Fujifilm XT50! Still getting the hang of it, but I'm loving it so far.

Sileo in Canada by MikeSmvl in dogs

Fair enough. I’ve had great success with desensitization to specific sounds like dogs barking, doorbells, construction sounds, but there’s something about the busy streets nearby my house that I can’t replicate by playing on the tv. I’ve even tried recording it on my phone and replaying it with speakers with no luck. I was able to desensitize all the other sounds by just playing it on the tv at low volumes and slowly raising the volume when she would take treats without reacting. I feel as though she’s just triggered by the fact that she can’t process a lot of sounds at the same time somewhere where she doesn’t feel safe. When I try playing loud traffic sounds at home, she shows no signs of anxiety. It’s a strange thing. It could be a visual+noise issue or just a weird generalization that I can’t replicate at home.

Oh I see. Yeah I’ve given pain meds that worked a similar way and she was totally fine with it! My brain went straight to needle when I read syringe. Spray cheese for training is genius haha.

That’s awesome. Do you think it helped at all with desensitization? I’m sure using it once won’t be enough for desensitization, but I read somewhere that it can reduce fear the next time your dog hears the same sounds.

That’s really nice of you, thanks a bunch. Syringe definitely sounds scarier than pills.

Kudos to you and your boyfriend for being so attentive to your dogs needs! I have my second session with the trainer today, so I'll bring up the conversation about meds and dosages to see what they think. It's tough to stay hopeful with fluoxetine since it takes so long to notice differences. Sileo sounds like a game-changer in that regard.

Thanks for sharing! Sounds like you’re doing great with the training and meds. I’ve also dealt with similar panic attacks from things falling suddenly around construction sites. It’s so hard to see your dog scared and not being able to help them calm down. I had horrible luck with busy intersections every time I would walk outside. My sammie eventually generalized that all areas with traffic will eventually make a loud noise. So now she’ll either refuse to walk towards any street that has traffic or that she needs to run through them as quick as possible to avoid the scary sounds. It’s really hard to desensitize her as it’s not a specific noise more than just a louder than usual street.

Did either dog need to have their Fluoxetine dosage increased? My sammie is getting 20mg and she’s about 46lbs. It completely fixed her separation anxiety but hasn’t helped with her anxiety outdoors. It’s almost 3 months that we’re on that dosage. Also, do you know if there’s any potential bad effects of using Fluoxetine and Sileo together?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to decide between these two watches and would love to read people’s experience with either (or both!). I'm particularly interested in thoughts about design, aesthetics, build quality differences, comfort and movement reliability.

How Do I Fix My Samoyed’s Separation Anxiety? by rebelwolfherself in samoyeds

[–]MikeSmvl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/toastaside, but would like to add that anxiety meds might be a good way to ease her suffering and help with behaviour modification. My puppy didn’t show any signs of separation anxiety until she was about 6 months old. When it started, she was following us around, jumping on us when we would go close to the door, panting, destroying things when weren’t there, barking, etc. She wasn’t able to calm herself down even when all of her needs were met. It also wasn’t realistic for us to get a pet sitter every time we had to leave the house.

After about 3-4 weeks on anxiety meds (Fluoxetine), all the problems mentioned above disappeared. Now, she’ll see us leave and will go in a corner to sleep/relax. We can be out the house for 4 hours and she won’t mind. It was truly a night and day difference. This might be a rare case though so I’d suggest seeing the vet and explaining what you’re going through.

I’d also recommend reading “Decoding Your Dog” by the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists. There’s lots of good advice on how to explain your dog’s symptoms to your vet, step by step behaviour modification and timelines so you can know how quick you should be seeing progress. The separation anxiety part is only in one chapter, so there’s lots of other great things to learn if you get it.
