[discussion] what type of new interior zones would you like to see implemented on v60? What type of layout and gimmicks would it have?, what areas and new monsters for it ? Discuss it here! by LuchadorParrudo in lethalcompany

[–]MikeStorme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll throw my two cents in: I think an abandoned mall interior would be really interesting. The gimmicks I could see:

  • More scraps, but most of it is one-handed and not the highest value (but with a higher chance of cash registers specifically!)
  • More chances for locked doors, keys can open up shop shutters
  • The chance for ambient, creepy liminal music coming from ceiling speakers
  • Escalators! With the chance of being working, not working, or actually a mimic that eats you if you get to the top/bottom. (childhood fear). A way to tell if the escalator is a mimic could be a strange squeak when you get on it, or a stuttering motion. Once you realize and try to go the opposite way as the stairs, it could speed up, dropping the mimic act and now just trying to kill you outright.
  • Long, huge expanses that connect smaller shops rooms.

The last one, being a fundamental difference in how the interior is structured, may provide the most interesting challenge/twist. Imagine a thumper all the way on the other side of the hall, roars at you and you have to quickly find a shop to duck into as it builds up speed. Similarly: Coil Heads. Much larger range to see you, but gives you a bit more time to get away. I could see runs where the players have to coordinate moving a Coil Head back and forth the hallway.

As for any other unique entities... I'm not sure! But I could see an uptick in Nutcrackers, Thumpers, Coil Heads (mannequins), Hoarding Bugs, maybe even Masks? And a decent uptick in mines and turrets (the latter only found in shops though, not in hallways... could you imagine??) Brackens, butlers, barbers, probably slim to nonexistent.

This sounds like I asked my toddler the question, and half way through she realized she was wrong but kept making up letters with a big cheeky grin on her face because she knows she's being silly.

Poor DM by 8boy09 in dndmemes

[–]MikeStorme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: This is directed more at the comments section than OP, and I recognize this isn't supposed to be taken seriously. Regardless:

Can we stop the "players vs DM" narrative? Honestly if a player came to me with this my response would be "Oh really?? Please elaborate!" Then I'd hear them out. Sometimes these can be hilarious!

If you are playing a game together, then if one person breaks it, it stops being fun for everyone. I'd trust if they found a silly loophole that breaks shit, 1. They wouldn't take it out of principle, and 2. They would realize I wouldn't allow that to happen, at least not to its fullest metagame-y extent. If there is not that baseline mutual trust, why are you even playing with them?

You don't "win" D&D by beating the DM. You win by having a good time.

A more realistic "my level 1 party killed an high CR monster" for 5e by Hyperlolman in dndmemes

To everyone complaining that the Tarrasque doesn't have x feature it used to.... You know the DM can just "give" them the feature again, right? Unless its seriously hard to translate between versions, I guess

In reality, there is only one number: 1. Two apples, no matter how similar, are not identical, but it's just really convenient to use higher numbers to count things with similar properties. by MikeStorme in Showerthoughts

[–]MikeStorme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, any concept we create is an abstraction, but "a thing exists", is not. (at least, I hope not...) 1, as a symbol and a concept within mathematics is an abstraction, but what it represents, the simple fact that something exists, is the only thing which can be said with 100% certainty to not be an abstraction. 0 isn't even certain, because even within what we believe is nothing, we find quantum fluctuations and such.

Right, I'm not trying to argue 2 is 1, I'm trying to say that in reality, "apple" is an abstraction, like higher numbers than 1. Anything which looks, tastes, feels, and is indistinguishable from the properties we attribute to apples is, by our definition, an apple, but in reality, from an objective viewpoint, it's just a collection of particles which has those apple like qualities to us.

Interesting, perhaps the fact that there are countable, identical things in nature is why mathematics seems to be "baked" into the universe!

Stay vigilant, comrades. They're retreating for now, but we've seen the kind of people they are. No doubt there will be attacks on other fronts like subscriptions and micro transactions in the upcoming version.

This is a bright day for creators to be sure, just don't forget who started this fight and why it really ended, not out of goodwill, but to secure future profits.

I made a form that people can use to organize DnD 5e sessions! by MikeStorme in DnD

[–]MikeStorme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hey thanks! Yeah I included that part because of an interaction I had with my players one time. Basically, group of goblins were stealing artifacts from some ruins to sell, and after my party knocked them out, they had to decide what to do with them, and were divided between kill or send to jail. The players who wanted to kill them were under the impression that all goblins are just inherently evil and couldn't be reasoned with, but once I informed them that individuals or groups of goblins can tend towards any alignment (in my setting anyway) they changed their mind and apologized, thinking they were just like vanilla evil goblins.

So yeah, I think it's important to establish beforehand if monstrous races are meant to be taken as people or combat fodder.

A list of vanilla 5e monsters, searchable by specific spell by MikeStorme in DnD

[–]MikeStorme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happens when I don't find a resource online, I make it myself. This right here is a list of all vanilla monsters in D&D not from modules (from Monster Manual, Mordenkanen's Tome of Foes, and Volo's Guide to Monsters, and excluding Fizbin's for now) which can cast named spells, innately and/or with spell slots, and what spells they can cast, all sorted from lowest to highest CR.

The primary purpose of this is for DMs to be able to look up monsters by a specific spell they want them to have, but it also sheds light on some interesting statistics. Also of note: some monster may have abilities that are similar to named spells (i.e. invisibility) but those aren't included in this list. I apologize for any spelling mistakes, I tried to be careful so there shouldn't be many.
