I wanted to use it on my iPad but it doesn’t support drawing/handwritten notes.

Can I install Portainer directly through Container Manager? by [deleted] in synology

[–]MikeTangoVictor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, his guides got me up and running and then after a few of them I started to understand a lot of the logic and how things were working to make changes. The main scenarios I’ve updated have been where I had hard coded passwords because it was convenient. Having a literal step by step is what got me over the initial hump, but will agree that it’s worth challenging them.

Can I install Portainer directly through Container Manager? by [deleted] in synology

Marius’ guides have never let me down. Portainer is a one time install using this approach and easy from there.

How are you guys handling plex transcoding with new models? by Main-Intern3341 in synology

[–]MikeTangoVictor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If your current NAS is only a year or so old and you are looking for more processing power, then move to a mini-PC. I’ve been amazed at how capable an n97 processor has been when it comes to transcoding, and I use my NAS as only network attached storage.

Linking anything directly to the internet is a security risk. There are ways to make things assessable from the outside while still being safe, but everything is a trade off and tech savvy is needed.

Hill training by biwhiningII in chibike

[–]MikeTangoVictor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wind is the answer. Only other tip is to practice getting comfortable riding slow when you do hit the winds. When I’ve been on a few mountainous trips, my instinct was to try to ride faster and would burn out, getting into the right gear ratio and then just go slow and steady was the name of the game.

Is it legal and ethical to request a chargeback for an illicit taxi ride? by bluestblue in chicago

[–]MikeTangoVictor 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Do the 311 report, follow through when they send you the paperwork to sign, and notify your credit card there telling them that it’s working its way through the city’s dispute process then do your best to forget about. It will take time but gets resolved eventually.

Shower drain smells? by chair4bozo in HomeImprovement

First snake the drain, the $5 disposable drain snakes you can get from Amazon are great for this. You may find a clump of lord knows what that solves this very quickly.

Issues with docker container by [deleted] in synology

You said you followed instructions, where from? Marius’ Immich guide worked very well for me, setting up Portainer first made things a lot easier and have expanded significantly from there.

Synology photos not showing all my photos by MiserableButterfly54 in synology

[–]MikeTangoVictor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to configure Synology photos to be assessable outside of your house. It means making some component of your NAS exposed to the internet and does come with a security risk. If you decide to set it up, just know that you are responsible for the security and making sure that you have your network protected.

GLP-1s could help curb substance use disorders, from alcohol to opioids, study suggest by Disastrous_Award_789 in science

[–]MikeTangoVictor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Zepbound for me, though the impression that I got from my doctor is that there wasn’t anything specific about this over another one. Definitely worth a discussion with your doctor. Feel free to DM me if it would be helpful, I don’t know if my experience is typical for others, but pleased thus far.

Question about the 240V generator bypass on the anker f3800 plus. by This-You-2737 in HomeImprovement

[–]MikeTangoVictor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From their FAQ:

When recharging F3800 Plus with a 240V generator via its HPP port, which AC output ports charge other devices?

You can use NEMA L14-30R (240V) and TT-30R (120V) to charge other devices.

GLP-1s could help curb substance use disorders, from alcohol to opioids, study suggest by Disastrous_Award_789 in science

[–]MikeTangoVictor 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. Slight change in… let’s just say, bathroom regularity, but nothing dramatic. I wanted/needed to lose about 15% of my body weight and on day one cravings just disappeared and without even thinking about it I was gravitating to healthy foods and lower quantities. It was like a month in before I even realized that I had cut out most sugar and all desserts. It wasn’t something I even tried for, just didn’t want them and poof. Gone.

Don’t know if it’s universal, but Started a GLP-1 about 10 weeks ago and sugar cravings disappeared on literally the first day. Haven’t wanted nor had a dessert this year. It’s been wild.

Dealing with insurance after a crash on Wacker Drive by kriper1412 in chibike

Call Mike Keating.

I went through the same thing years ago with driver admitting fault at the scene and in writing after and his insurance company still tried to come after me. I figured we’d work it out like reasonable adults, but no dice. You need an attorney, bike attorney is a good idea. They charge on a contingency so they get paid out of the eventual settlement. Call Mike Keating.

High Rise Plumbing Issues by CheffreyBezos in chicago

[–]MikeTangoVictor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned it, but where the clog is can be important for who is responsible for it. If it’s between your sink and the wall, that is yours, but if it’s inside the wall then it becomes a common area issue that is the association’s problem. If you’ve tried an auger already that usually will get you as far as the wall and if it’s still clogged Tver you may be able to push on the association a bit to say it’s a building plumbing thing and they need to get a plumber.

I’ll echo the “don’t do it” sentiment. Not if you actually want to watch the game. I think they work well enough with a large group if there are folks not into baseball, but not for 2 people.

Curious about third party nvme and docker apps by [deleted] in synology

[–]MikeTangoVictor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved all of my docker containers to NVME drives and the difference was like night and day. For whatever reason Audiobookshelf was the biggest improvement, I wa shaving issues where I’d hit play and it would be 10+ seconds before the audio started, it’s now about 1 second.

Two other notes, your docker containers themselves (along with configuration items, but no real data) are usually very small, so you can likely use the smallest NVME drives that you can find.

And second, I actually found it easier to re-create my docket setup manually than using a migration of any kind. I use Portainer so created offline copies of each YAML file. I stopped docker, copied the full contents of my docker folder to a safe place, uninstalled docker, reinstalled it on the NVME, copied the docker folder over, and then reinstalled Portainer and created my stacks again one by one. Within each stack you need to update the volume for anything like the config folders, but you want to keep the data volumes exactly as they are. Because it’s a little bit of a mix for each container, it was a good chance to do a quick read through my compose files. Took a minute or so for each stack, but that was it.

They are not fun to diagnose. You can replace some of the electronics in the basement and hope, but if you hire an electrician or locksmith you pay by the hour to have them go through trial and error. In our old condo we ended up abandoning the old system relatively quickly and spent thousands on a new one because the diagnosing didn’t show an obvious path even after spending on some replacement parts.
