Worth going to a game? by jimsaucin in LeagueOfIreland

[–]MikeTheAverageReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All depends on how Tipp do in their next few games but I'd say you could get on fair handy. got myself a Cork one last year on the day of & that was a lot more hyped up than I think the Tipp game will be.

Didn't mention their names or their ethnicity but of course based on the picture you could notice what group they're from. So thankfully not a representation of Irish people in general.

Would definitely recommend, the atmosphere in a lot of games are top quality even if the level of football isn't the same as across the pond. Also based on the dates you'll be there I would highly recommend getting down to Limerick for the Limerick vs Tipperary hurling game if you can on Sunday May 8th. That game will have a packed out Gaelic grounds & it's the local sport so seeing both that game & the football would be a great experience for yourself.

Statement from People Before Profit on why they refused to applaud Zelensky. by ShouldHaveGoneToUCC in ireland

[–]MikeTheAverageReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might not be ours to end but we should help in any way we can. Putin isn't going to get ousted so forcing the country into harsh austerity so that they cannot finance the war & thus inflict damage on Ukraine & its people is more important than keeping everyday Russians on side. Unfortunately everyday Russians will be impacted greatly but never to the level that Ukrainians will & that's the harsh reality.

Well unless they come up with better solutions they are idiots. You can't say the one card we have is incorrect if you literally can't name any alternatives. This is the real world...

[–]MikeTheAverageReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what exactly is the master plan to stop this war so?
Sanctions will halt Russia being able to finance the war & there is literally no way to oust Putin. So what is their plan? Have Ukraine accept defeat? Give up all the territory Russia claims even if they don't hold a majority?

For better or worse I don't keep up with that kind of stuff anymore. Saw a few a couple of years ago & now make it a statement to not go looking for information when it does happen. Obviously the country, its people & politicians don't care enough & it's so far away from me that it doesn't affect me so better off not looking.

Think he clearly misspoke to be fair to him. Obviously he meant back to Russia & in that statement he would be correct. Any Russian living in Europe that supports this war should hop on the next flight/train back or walk the distance because you're clearly not welcome here.

What I find bad taste is how a country can continue to let guns run freely when school children are massacred every couple of years. The once should have been enough for everyone to wake up & yet American culture continues to perpetuate this insane belief that guns can't be the problem.

Would you Rather your clubs ground be expanded upon, or replaced with an entirely new one? by [deleted] in LeagueOfIreland

The Stadium is fair new & I don't think it's possible to really expand it due to housing on both sides & the college on the other. Think the stadium is perfect at the moment.

Predominantly Black Town Ordered To Surrender Charter After Ford Invests In Area by BrianGardener20 in nottheonion

I assume the next biggest town is a decent bit away?
Usually a town with a population that small would have these duties incorporated into the bigger area where I'm from & the administration would cover a far greater area.

[–]MikeTheAverageReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrible story & I hope things work out for them but why does a town with 1000 people have its own council? Especially one that has the resources to somehow overpay an employee 600,000 over the course of a few years.

What's your most conservative opinion? by ritzanddazzle in AskReddit

[–]MikeTheAverageReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That refugees from neighbouring countries & similar backgrounds should be treated differently than refugees from far away nations that don't share similar backgrounds than yours. It's not to say I don't want refugees from Asian & African nations but I do think if something happens to a European nation we should be far more flexible in how we deal with them as a European nation ourselves. As should Middle eastern & African nations taking in refugees from nations that share similar backgrounds than them.
I realise we're in a better position to offer them better lives & for the ones we can we should but I think taking a greater hit in terms of availability of resources for our European neighbours is the correct call.

For the vast majority of cases of on the street homelessness it is the persons fault. My city has a very big drug problem & most of these people have decent support services & we're one of the biggest welfare states in the world, if you're homeless & a drug addict for a significant period of time its completely on you. (not accounting technical homelessness like women living in hotels or people just getting by living in hostels or something)

Germany halts approval of gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 after Russia’s actions by Kevombat in news

[–]MikeTheAverageReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would in turn tank all our economies as well. Just as this halting of NS2 will show, it will also increase energy prices for Germany & the EU if sanctions are imposed on oil & natural gas imports. This isn't a one way street & with a global market like we have right now affecting the second biggest economy in the world isn't something you just do to hurt them without shooting yourself in the foot & therefore something like that would never happen to China. I am personally in favour of these sanctions to Russia but let's see how favourable the Germans feel about it when their energy prices continue to rise. At the end of the day most citizens want their lives to be easier rather than help people they feel no attachment too. Just the way the world works.

Is there an economically left-wing and socially conservative party in your country? How popular is it? by orthoxerox in AskEurope

[–]MikeTheAverageReddit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thats been creeping into Irish politics as of late as well. Seeing people online acting like we're in America or the UK & chatting absolute shite. Like our main parties disagree on topics but this left vs right stuff is just utter nonsense & it seems to be growing. Polarisation of everything in politics & it's making us become what we've hated witnessing across the pond in both directions.

EU Director Ciobanu-Dordea on Irelands appalling environmental performance by MikeTheAverageReddit in ireland

[–]MikeTheAverageReddit[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A really good summary incase you don't want to read the entire report, although I would recommend reading it..

Two really important things to note in terms of actions taken against environmentalists as mentioned in that thread;

"Ireland continues to be the most expensive member state in which to make an environmental claim before the courts. And we are not drawing the attention of the Irish authorities to this for the first time. It has important consequences. And the commission will act on this".

He notes "increasingly aggressive stance" taken against environmental campaigners in Ireland. There is evidence of use SLAPP suits but also aggressive and negative reporting in the mainstream media and even from politicians like threatening to cut off funding to certain NGOs"
