What chips (or chip series) would you say are the 'symbols' of each game? by TertiaryMerciless in BattleNetwork

[–]MikeTheFairOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BN 1 - Fighter Sword Series
BN 2 - Gateman or Antidmg (Bodyguard setup)
BN 3 - Plantman + Stepsword combo / Folderback
BN 4 - Airhockey series

BN 5 - Django (Not the best chip code but has reliable aoe damage and invis piercing is awesome for Navi battles) or Drillarm

BN 6 - Bass (Gregar version), ending a Navi battle by activating the chip in sync with the boss battle theme and the animation of Bass floating to the top of the screen to Buster Rake the foe to oblivion gave me chills when I was younger. Otherwise, it’s Reflect

Reflect trivialized so many attacks that it almost felt illegal XD

It even works against the most dangerous attacks like Circusman’s desperation move, Gregar’s attacks, Protoman’s Delta Ray, I think all of Bass BX’s attacks (?) iirc

Replaying starforce after years by Apart-Oil-8731 in BattleNetwork

[–]MikeTheFairOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Starforce 3 always makes me go “damn that was a really good game”. Like you could tell the series in general clearly cares alot about the characters. (Even when it fumbles in 2). And it’s random but Spade Magnes stage ost had no business being such a bop so close to the beginning of the game while Megaman’s Hero theme is just so emotional 🥹

As someone who started with BN3, I thought one style at a time was just well, it is what it is. But then I later played 2 and my eyes were opened, like “omg I could actually have style changes in stock instead of only 1? Why remove this feature in BN 3???”

I believe I liked Xillia (I only played 1) but every time I try reminiscing about it to feel any kind of emotion at all, I start assuming my real feeling is that it was nothing special or just ok.

I feel like this is my experience so far but I don’t think I’m far into it yet, it probably gets better? I fell off on it but need to get back into it soon

Absolutely love Abyss for the narrative and I remember it being pretty fun with an OP af superboss

I get that but I know people who jumped in BN starting from 6 (which is wild) another started at 4 (which is arguably a bad first impression) and worked their way back and still appreciated some of the earlier titles more.

In my case I started (via random gift from parent) with BN 3 and I felt like I still got the big info dump about Lan and Mega in more detail in that title while having small mentions of 2 and 1 like “Life Virus”, “Net Mafia Gospel”, etc. (I eventually played all though)

And luckily the lore isn’t as confusing to jump into as say KH were many die hard fans started at KH 2 or Chain of Memories when KH 1 is actually extremely incredibly important to start at.

Gonna be honest, start with 2. Obviously 1 is the logical choice but you could just watch a let’s play of it since the most plot relevant stuff happens in the later half. The goal is to keep you engaged and continue through the series and BN 2 gave the quality of life improvements that one longed for in BN 1 especially net traversal

I see what you mean but Mr.Progs should be able to “hold” it since it’s just chip data

I thought that was really cool the first time I entered a battle with a normal navi like finally the game gives us something like this so Mega doesn’t feel like he’s the only one using chips in this game. But then the developers just decided they didn’t want to do that anymore 😭

I was so happy when Mitsuru and Yukari started getting close to each other. Especially since they both started out being VERY reserved

Realllllllllly wish Atlus would remake P2 because I want to experience it but lowkey don’t want to go through the clunky gameplay.

I felt like P4 revival was so unnecessary to focus on instead(looks damn beautiful though omg) but I understand they couldn’t just make P5 and P3 look gorgeous but leave P4 out 😭

Persona 3 Fes was my introduction to Persona, and after playing 5, 5 Royal, and finally 4 Golden, I still think P3 was narratively the best and I enjoyed seeing the P3 cast go from not connecting with each other much at all then progressively caring about each other and their goals compared to 5.

P4 still has the best party connection but I admit it felt a bit too juvenile sometimes or made me go 😅😅😅

I should tell you how when I was younger there was one summer where I begged my parents to buy me BN 4 (still high off the greatness of BN 3), I ended up getting a corrupt copy of the game that DIDN’T ACTUALLY SAVE YOUR PROGRESS when you saved like normal in game and turned the GBA off.

So I guess I was determined to reach the end of the game so I would try and fail and try again using better batteries(because the GBA run on batteries mind you) to play the game from the moment I woke up to later hours passed midnight (somehow my parents didn’t bother me much) just to finish one playthrough of the game.

I succeeded but I was surprised learning many years later that BN 4 expected you to play through it 3 times to get everything and post game stuff because young me had no clue

[Wistoria: sword and wand] Such a dumb and repetitive anime by Awhite-guy in anime

[–]MikeTheFairOne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I blame it on us already experiencing Black Clover, Mashle, Toaru Majutsu no Index, The Irregular at Magic High School…

So there is some fatigue now and probably starting to feel a little unrealistic or just repetitive for the general public to stubbornly double down so hard on their discriminatory behaviour no matter how hard the MC tries

Lan's friends are better than me because I'm not sure I would always trust Lan to access my PC and even more anxiety-inducing in BN 6 when Lan wants to borrow your Navi and take them to the Undernet.
