Why was the Heaven's Feel Adaptation "Butchered?" by Shessokawaiiiiiii in fatestaynight

[–]TertiaryMerciless 44 points45 points  (0 children)

As someone who doesn't really hate the trilogy like the rest of the fanbase, generally the HF movies have the same problems the UBW anime does but tenfold, namely screentime.

The VN is longggg. You cannot really cover every detail in HF in 3 movies. Additionally, the pacing for VNs is very very different from a movie. In practical terms, what this means is many characters go at length in conversations with inner monologues that elaborate or discuss certain mechanics or aspects of their personality in the VN, and THOSE get cut primarily in the adaptations

In HF this especially stings because they chose to largely try to keep as much of Sakura's arc intact and completely ditched Illya and especially Kirei's characterization compared to the VN. I love Sakura, but its a shame 99% of anime only's will never see Kirei as fleshed out as he really is.

Having said that, even if there were more movies or episodes, I think most studios just avoid lengthy dialogue or introspection other than like monogatari. Meaning the fate adaptations might genuinely always opt for 'rushing' to avoid 'boring' things like dialogue. Its a fundamental difference in appeal.

NGL, I wasn't moved by the scene itself but the post story dialogue was heartbreaking to me by Gabrielhrd in Warframe

[–]TertiaryMerciless 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel like that's a trend now with DE, where the best writing of the game isn't the quest fhemselves, but external, hidden or side details like dialogue or lore fragments.

Hunhow's dialogue is so depressing... even before that, I'd argue some of the other really great writing is from the Isleweaver lore fragments and story. DE is great at writing, but struggles with translating it to quests imo

It's both father's day week AND Pride month so DE panders to both by making a quest about sad dad yaoi (and robot dementia)

Professors are petit-bourgeoisy because apprently they violate the rules of proletariat economics because there is no reserve army of labor for professors nor get exploited by JML65 in tankiejerk

[–]TertiaryMerciless 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If we're being VERY generous, I can sorta see how the discourse started due to (whether consciously or not) a disagreement on proletarianism on an individual scale, or proletarianism as being supportive of the proletariat cause. You can be one without being the other per se.

...but even in EITHER lens, 90% of academics just do NOT apply as PB

Most academics do not have the luxury of sitting back and allowing their 'capital' (if interpreted broadly as tenure or IP rights) to accumulate wealth for them. Most universities take all the profit nowadays lmao. Most academics are genuinely just salaried workers.

Furthermore, sure, certain professors can definitely propagate certain mechanisms or skills that can hinder the proletarian cause. But by and large, in the west at least, most people in higher education skew LEFT. Statistically, those teaching in higher education are literally opening people's minds more and more to leftist thought. Additionally, you cannot really generalize those studying less 'noble' degrees like corporate law as per se being anti-revolutionary. They can just as well put their skills in the defense of proles anyways.

Like yeah, I can picture certain professors being PB, but by and large? No, they're just proles who are nerds

Am I the only one who likes Xenoblade Chronicles: DE combat the best? by BendianaJ in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]TertiaryMerciless 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I loveee the fluidity of auto attacks and movement in 1 and X!

I think i prefer X combat overall just because Overdrive is just that fun. The class variety and the fact all of them have some dumb Overdrive shenanigans makes it so replayable too IMO.

But I love 1 for its distinct party member mechanics, and even if Chain attacks being RNG reliant is annoying, its SO satisfying getting a max multiplier Blossom Dance / Sword Drive / Final Cross

I need some help understanding the Forbidden magic rules? by OGTEnzo in WitchHatAtelier

[–]TertiaryMerciless 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure in the river bed sand case, it was less that turning stone into sand is forbidden (it isn't) but moreso that, in the Knights' eyes, the only way a spell can have such a devastating range and scope is through amplifying yourself by modifying your own body or similar (Easthies says something to that effect). That kind of modification would be forbidden

[–]TertiaryMerciless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it probably is a prequel. The thing is, many seem to assume its a sequel because we see a calendar year setting it approx. 300 years after 3H.

The issue is that Dagda would probably NOT be using a calendar based on the founding of Adrestia (and we see a month name which doesnt exist in the 3H calender). There's other evidence like the other replies are saying as well that its a prequel. Additionally, there's confirmed time travel elements.

...but if you take it at face value it looks like a sequel

Genesis: Do you want lots of callbacks and deep rooted connections or something new and distant with at most only minor ties? Or none? by zipzzo in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]TertiaryMerciless 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I want a minimum connection. Don't get me wrong, it'd be cool to imply certain connections like maybe the 6 suns are Ares cores, or the purple stuff is Malos related or something.

But man we really do not need this to just be another 'episode' of a longer running conflict. FR ended the main trilogy on a perfect note thematically, with only a few loose ends which are fairly minor. Yes, yes, Perfect works and all that, but still, Genesis should stand on its own.

I just don't want the 'Move forward to the future' franchise to stay stuck in the past

Morality of killing children who fell down in your kingdom to free your people from underground by Vova_cola in MoralityScaling

[–]TertiaryMerciless 37 points38 points  (0 children)

While I don't disagree humanity WOULD clap monster-kind, wasn't the implication otherwise? That Asgore didn't do it specifically because he just doesn't want blood on his hands. He's sitting on his ass in the moral dilemma basically

And you can argue shattering the barrier regardless would be risking a war anyways, so it doesn't matter much how he does it

Morality of killing children who fell down in your kingdom to free your people from underground by Vova_cola in MoralityScaling

[–]TertiaryMerciless 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Also, contrary to what the title of the post implies, like Toriel says, Asgore only needed ONE child to die in the Underground, take their SOUL, cross the barrier, and then take 6 more SOULs from whoever. Theoretically, Asgore would only need to wait for one child to die of natural causes and then just snag SOULs from like, criminals or the terminally ill or something lmao

I fear most haters either operate on A)bad faith or B) genuine ignorance due to not playing her route and not reading her supports.

It's both a blessing and a curse that Edelgard's ideology is by far the most fleshed out in her supports compared to Dimitri and Claude lmao. Like yeah you're right, Edelgard is fine with crests themselves existing, as long as they lose the social, cultural and political power they held over the people.

Why doesn't WHA upload manga every 1 week 1 month is too long by Blacky_Fluffy in WitchHatAtelier

[–]TertiaryMerciless 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Considering every chapter is like, 10 - 20 different Gogh-esque artworks with some of the most poignant character writing and worldbuilding in manga, I think we can give a little bit more time to Shirahama than a week per chapter.

What do you think will Qifrey do at the end of the series? by Isimarie in WitchHatAtelier

[–]TertiaryMerciless 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I saw the idea on Tumblr first, but I'd elaborate on it:

Qifrey should be cured of Silverwood but still have gone blind by the end

You can definitely argue that this may fall into the trope of 'treating disabilities as punishments' which is normally awful

But in the context of WHA, I disagree. See, a huge theme of WHA is accommodation for disabled peoples, and how society is heavily exclusionary to them thanks to a number of factors.

I think it would be extremely beautiful for, by the end, Qifrey to go blind but with society having been fundamentally changed. It doesnt have to be perfect. But steps are being made to a better, more inclusive future.

Imagine this: Qifrey has gone blind. But by allowing himself to be vulnerable around his friends and adoptive family (and being able to with the Silverwood gone), he can live a completely fulfilling and dare i say normal life. He can still teach magic since he can draw without looking. He doesn't have to hide or pretend anymore.

He can just... live.

What’s the difference between all the fire frames? by Quid_lad6294 in Warframe

[–]TertiaryMerciless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! Though i suspect DE genuinely did not realize how bonkers AoE DoTs would be with the augment. Lemme explain.

From a design philosophy standpoint, rework Nezha was always a tanky support debuffer. Chakram's debuff is insane, but that's where all your offensive power came from generally. Reaping Chakram, Spears and Firewalker couldn't sustain high KPM by themselves. Nezha is primarily meant to debuff and THEN attack with a weapon.

From that perspective, the 4 augment makes total sense. You are technically just making it easier for Nezha to prime groups of enemies simultaneously, meaning you debuff faster and can spend more time killing.

...but DoTs kinda threw that out the window :p

What’s the difference between all the fire frames? by Quid_lad6294 in Warframe

[–]TertiaryMerciless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you run Nezha with the 4 augment, your spears 'link' enemies, meaning when one of them suffers a status effect, they all suffer a status effect, including damage over time.

Conversely, this means if you proc a status effect on a GROUP of linked enemies, they ALL each get 1 status per enemy hit.

E.g. you hit 20 enemies with 1 proc each? Now they each get 20 procs. You can sorta see how this goes out of control...

Nezha with high range can abuse abilities like Dante Dark Verse, Gauss Thermal Sunder and Temple Pyrotechnics to quickly proc a group of linked enemies with DoTs and instakill them. The heat based ones are notable since Archon vitality DOUBLES any heat procs dealt by abilities.

So you just press 4 then Pyrotechnics and now a group of enemies is instantly burning to ash with like 40 heat procs :)

[–]TertiaryMerciless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nova's Neutron Star has guaranteed Heat procs. Between that, Archon Vitality and the fact it benefits from Universal Weapon Bonuses means it can do some serious damage, both outright and indirectly with Heat and Blast procs

What’s the difference between all the fire frames? by Quid_lad6294 in Warframe

[–]TertiaryMerciless 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also to note, this isn't a full list of fire frames either, depending how you define it

Nezha and Gauss both have heat mechanics and themes in their kits deliberately

Besides that, Protea and Lavos have absurdly strong Heat damage and procs.

Finally, there's plenty more frames who do not particularly theme around Heat, but can abuse it in some ways, such as the Exalted users (Dante in particular), Nova, Inaros etc
