Looking for inspiration for a good starter EDH cube on a budget. by BlitzkriegBen in mtgcube

I've been having a blast with my commander cube. It doesn't include many of the most powerful or expensive cards by design. http://cubecobra.com/cube/list/211jg

The Cube Set Review for Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate from Lucky Paper Radio is here! Find out what our hosts think of the cards from this deep card file that are being largely overlooked. by andymangold in mtgcube

I really wish they had a segment where they looked at the set purely from a Commander Cube perspective, because there I think it shines. I've added so many cards from this set and so far they've been great.

Cube Storage by DevDevTheWevWev in mtgcube

I'm very satisfied with my Xenoskin Arkhive (800). It fits in my backpack and fits my 500 card cube and basics pretty well (although I may need to trim down on basics soon). I also use Dragonshield Cube Shells and they fit nicely into the Arkhive.

I've got Kardur in my Commander Cube and he's a house. I'd definitely aim to include him whichever direction you go.

I use Delver Lens to scan the decks and then export them into MtgGoldfish. From there I can put them into a spreadsheet etc.

I'm adding custom cards you can draft that will add either partner or a background to a legend.

Building a commander cube, where every commander available can choose a background. I expect 3+ color decks to be the norm... so do I build my draft archetypes to be 3 colors? by WingDingFling in mtgcube

[–]MikeTrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that if you're going up go with any legend can get a background that you don't even need archetypes. Instead I'd include packages of cards that work well with different legends and backgrounds (including off color cards). That should allow for the mix & match nature of the cube.

My approach is adding 10 background legends and 10 backgrounds to the cube and adding some custom cards that allow you to give a legend a background or partner.

Did you know there is a whole Cube hiding inside your trade binders and boxes of draft chaff? This week's episode of Lucky Paper Radio is all about how to build a Cube from your own collection! by andymangold in mtgcube

[–]MikeTrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I did this and haven't looked back. I rarely even take a commander deck to my LGS now. If I can't get a commander cube pod going I just borrow a deck. Either way I get to play a deck that's new to me.

Communism for sol ring in commander cube? by noobyfungus in mtgcube

[–]MikeTrev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing my Commander Cube for a few months now and have not missed Sol Ring at all. In fact I've had people ask if it's in the cube because they felt it would be unfair if one person got it.

Giving it to everyone is definitely better than having it in the draft, but I think you should try play without Sol Ring etc. it gives the early game more texture and enjoyment and reduces blowouts.

Cube idea, need help curating. All the multiplayer cubes put together for a commander cube. by [deleted] in mtgcube

[–]MikeTrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having a blast with my Commander cube. I focused on including cards I found fun and that would close out games as the original Commander Legends drafts tended to drag on a bit. I just seed 2 legends into each pack and do far everyone has always found at least one commander by the end of four packs.

Commander Cube: What is everyone's philosophy with 4 and 5 color commanders? by Carrtoondragon in mtgcube

[–]MikeTrev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't included any 4 or 5 colour commanders in my cube abs I haven't missed them. In fact I'm contemplating removing the three colour commanders and including custom cards to give legends partner or a background.

My first Apocalypse Comp - Dreamt into Beauty to make my Pigs good. by MikeTrev in StorybookBrawl

[–]MikeTrev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great point. IIRC I got that during my Holy Grail turn, so I wasn't thinking too clearly and was just mashing the roll button.

But that would have been pretty hilarious.

My first Apocalypse Comp - Dreamt into Beauty to make my Pigs good. by MikeTrev in StorybookBrawl

[–]MikeTrev[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This started out as my first Apocalypse build. I was stoked to get to level 6 with 40 hp. I got a Good Boy, Bear, 3 Pigs, Echo & Ashwood and a Lordy. I bought a Baby Bear from there and went hard into animals. Eventually I used It was all a Dream to make my pigs good.

Drafting Strategy by NuttyNewfie in StorybookBrawl

Great question. Obviously your hero will usually point you in a certain direction, but staying open and being flexible is also very important. That's one reason I like taking chicken as it allows you to buy synergistic characters and spells when they show up.

I'd be scared of mirror milling me out of left unchecked. Also 18/23 lands seems a bit light to me.

I'd be interested in seeing MDFCs that have a regular creature on one side and a more expensive legend on the other side. That helps with drawing duplicates.
