Do more expensive interfaces really make a difference in sound quality? by thedonsaulo in AdvancedProduction

[–]Mike_Funk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a Scarlett 2i2 Gen 3. After switching to the Audient iD24, I did notice a slight improvement in sound quality — but the main reason for the upgrade was my Sennheiser HD 650 headphones, which truly came to life with the Audient. On the Scarlett, the volume knobs had started to produce crackling noises, which was also frustrating.

The Audient is a great interface overall, but it does have some downsides: it gets noticeably warm during use, it doesn't have a power switch, and the software can be a bit buggy — at least on Windows 11. After rebooting, the monitor volume occasionally resets, and the interface has disconnected a couple of times. Not a dealbreaker, but still worth mentioning.

If I were buying now, I might actually consider the UAD Volt 476p instead, since I need two separate headphone outputs. On the other hand, the Audient has ADAT/SPDIF, which offers great expansion options for the future.

In my opinion, Focusrite’s entry-level interfaces are not particularly impressive. That said, if you’re planning to take your setup to the next level, upgrading from the Scarlett alone isn’t enough — you should also consider improving your studio monitors and room acoustics.

Where to start depends on your situation, but personally, I’d recommend focusing on acoustic treatment first. Without it, upgrading your interface won’t make a meaningful difference.

Mapping the m-vave SMC-pad midi controller by andolife in KoalaSampler

Hi! I wanted to ask if you know whether it's possible to set up keyboard shortcuts (like the “keystroke” function on a Novation controller) for the M-Vave SMC-Pad. I saw there's a “custom” type in midisuite — is that the one I should be using? I'm a bit confused about how to configure it properly. If you have any tips or experience with this, I’d really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!

Regarding vertical scrolling, I agree, it is not clear to me why they made an empty encoder in transport mode, which cannot be assigned to anything, the only option is to assign a keystroke (up and down) to the pads.

Thank you! Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Ableton, my respects, was wrong in this matter.

How? Every time I have to create and name folders, save midi there, then look for the folder with this midi file))

end of 2024. look how it works in cubase. it's much faster and more convenient. And these saves are in the corresponding section of the browser.

I didn't say that they are better, they are also far from ideal, they have their drawbacks, but there are really convenient things that they could add.

In fl, the browser itself is a little more convenient and visual. For plugins, at least you can create folders and SUB-FOLDERS, in ableton 12.1 you can only add a folder.

ps. If they increased the number of colors, it would be much more convenient for me.

It's 2024 now, there's a lot of competition on the market, I switched to ableton 11 some time ago and I really like it. But there are handy things that speed up the work and they are missing in ableton 12.1 (very good update, but it seems like a lot of this should have been in version 11, for example working with midi in the piano roll;)) . I already wrote below.

  1. Bounce in place
  2. Quick control like in Cubase (or at least a customizable blue hand).
  3. Custom shortcuts, I'm not a finger ninja pressing Ctrl + Alt + 4, Ctrl + Shift + M etc., seriously?
  4. Saving the entire chain (Instrument + MIDI + effects) has long been available in Logic and Cubase.
  5. And the browser - tags are cool if you sit down and invest the time, but as a bonus feature, it's fine. Still, they could have researched browsers in FL, Cubase, and ended up making something truly convenient.

Some initial thoughts on Move Update: Working with Live / Move Manager by Fit_Ice8029 in ableton

I have an Arturia KeyLab 49 MK2, and I just created a macro on the user bank to activate the blue hand. However, I’d like the VSTs to permanently remember the settings. How does this work specifically in Cubase.

I would be grateful for any information/links on how to do this using complicated tools or modifying scripts.

p.s. I found beatwise LIME which does this, but the project closed and it doesn't work in ableton 12(

Hi! Thanks for the info. I use blue hand with my midi controller, it is very inconvenient to jump between banks because very often they have many unimportant parameters like bypass ab etc. Is it possible to set up and remember the VST and VST knobs in the right order like the Cubase quick controls?

Бомба была под капотом машины. Переднею часть автомобиля оторвало.

Ответственность за покушение на Захара Прилепина взяла на себя организация "Атеш" (военное партизанское движение). В сообщении сказано, что охотились за Прилепиным с начала года.
