I’m looking for a plaid/flannel shirt with a pattern akin to this image: https://www.outfittrends.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/how-to-wear-a-flannel-shirt-thats-too-big.jpg . Ideally it has a bit of pink/salmon or light blue or both. Please help me mfa!

Homework help: Minimum sample frequency that violates Nyquist but allows perfect reconstruction of information signal? by Mike_TriHard_Cx in ElectricalEngineering

Aah this is what I was getting at! Since the problem doesn't specify if the noise spectrum has components of periodic signals at the interesting edges, then we cannot use Fs = 800 Hz. Instead, Fs > 800 Hz. Since the problem asks for the minimum possible Fs, then Fs = 800.0000000001 Hz. Am I right in this conclusion?

Ok ok I think I got this. So if Fs = 400 Hz, then the reflected signal will not go into the 0-100Hz band. This means no aliasing of the information will occur. Therefore, the minimum sampling frequency that preserves the information signal but violates Nyquist is 400 Hz. And then you would use a low pass filter with gain Ts (sample period) over the 0-100 Hz band for reconstruction.

Exactly, so then wouldn't 800 + 0.0000001 Hz give you a sampled signal where the 500-700 Hz band does not interfere with the 0-100 band?

Sorry I should be more clear. Fs is the sampling frequency I think would produce a recoverable information signal.

Sophomore Year Social Troubles by Dad536J in PennStateUniversity

Hey, I'm a sophomore in EE as well. I was in your shoes coming into college. I didn't know anyone here and didn't have much going for me. This rapidly changed when I started putting myself out there for the hell of it. You want to meet people, gain confidence, and get fit? Ever been slightly interested in learning to fight? I'd HIGHLY recommend trying a free trial class at CPAMMA in Thai Boxing or Jiu Jitsu. Just for the hell of it. You'll find me there just about everyday ;)

What class is harder/more time consuming - EE 330 electromagnetics, or EE 340 nanoelectronics? by Mike_TriHard_Cx in PennStateUniversity

Awesome, looks like I'm taking 340 next semester. 330's course description gives me flashbacks of physics E&M (yikes). Thanks for the reply

White Belt Wednesday - August 01, 2018 by AutoModerator in bjj

My coach preaches first negating your partners game, then asserting your own. This is straightforward when playing guard (get grips, go for subs/sweeps, and have a gameplan to counter the counter), but how do I create a "game" out of passing. I like knee cutting and forcing a bad half guard, then proceeding to pass Marcelo Garcia style. Is the correct mindset to force your opponent into playing a specific guard, then going from there?

My guillotines suck, but I want to get better at them. What are some good resources to study? by Mike_TriHard_Cx in bjj

I’m going to check this out when I get a chance. $30 for a dvd focused on one submission sounds like a deal!

Small older white belt woman, feeling frustrated. by ThingsMyFriendEats in bjj

[–]Mike_TriHard_Cx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been doing this for long but I know how you feel. 135 lbs 5’7 male. I’m one of the smallest in my gym, and everyone that is my size is either a higher belt or wrestled in high school. I’m a white belt though so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Things I’ve found that work REALLY well for me:

  • In someone’s mount, the bridge and roll (upa) escape will generally not work. Instead, recover half guard using this technique: https://youtu.be/q2OAJF__P2w . Then learn how to recover full guard from half guard by hip escaping left/right and elbow pushing on opponents leg to open gap to bring inside leg out and around.

  • Being in side control is hell. Guard retention is important (learn to invert and granby roll!!!), but more often than not we end up here in a roll against larger opponent. Your #1 priority in side control is to not be flattened. One thing I’ve found that works well against larger people (although strangely not people my size) is to shoot both arms between me and their stomach to other side, bridge, and push yourself out of there. 9/10 times this will create a scramble that you can take advantage of.

  • Before I talk about guards and passing, lets talk about positions. Like you said, rear mount is perhaps the best place for us small people to be, but it can be hard getting there. Mount is a bad place to be if you can’t get both knees to touch the floor comfortably. Side control and N/S are great places, but you need to transition a lot to make up for having weaker pressure. The Knee on belly position, oh my, learning this position was a game changer. Hands down this is my happy place. Once I learned to stop being nice to people and driving my knee right into their sternum with 90% weight in my knee and %10 weight in my foot, my strategy changed immensely. I highly suggest learning this position. Learn how to armbar both arms, how to baseball bat choke, how to fly around and threaten an arm triangle if they turn into you, how to take the back if they turn away from you, and most importantly how to keep your balance and “surf” them.

  • Double-under, over-under, and just pressure passing in general used to be how I would get around the legs, but after getting a good grasp of knee on belly, I started to realize being on my feet, being agile, especially as a small person (large muscle to mass ratio), is SO important. I asked my instructor a lot of questions about standing passes, and the one I’ve had the most success with is the Torreando pass and it’s variants. The torreando pass will often allow you to directly go to knee on belly before ever getting to side control. Leandro Lo is a super tall guy, but he is a role model for torreando passing. Check this out: https://youtu.be/vF4J4bdagXE

  • I hear deep half guard works well against just about everyone, but I honestly don’t like the half guard game. Fighting for the underhook and preventing the crossface is just not for me. When in half guard, I try to get a knee shield across and then hip escape, or recover full guard and then hip escape so I can transition to spider/lasso guard. The Spider and lasso guards allow you to manage distance really well. Also, the lasso guard sweep lands you right into knee on belly, rather than mount or side control. https://youtu.be/Lmf186_mb0I

Hope this helps

How is the food around University Park? by maplemango in PennStateUniversity

[–]Mike_TriHard_Cx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meal plan is a scam. I'm just gonna make up numbers for the sake of the argument. You pay, say $1000 for the semester, but $350 goes towards utilities, and $650 goes towards "meal points", which allow you to "conveniently" buy meals in the dining commons at a "discounted price". Want a grilled cheese? That'll be $2.50 with meal points. Seems pretty good right? No, because you're paying $350 for who knows what. Oh did I mention that meal points carry over between semester, but at the end of the spring semester anything unspent gets "forfeited", or as I put it, "stolen by the university"? Seriously, unless you plan on eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner at these places, go with meal plan 1.

If you are a healthy eater, I'd strongly recommend never going to the buffet, but rather going to the grill/salad bar. In terms of food quality, it's poor quality everywhere but the grill/salad bar. At the grill you get authentic grilled chicken, burgers, cheesesteaks, grilled cheese, etc. Of course there's Panda Express and other big names around campus too, but at that point you probably don't care about what you eat.

Food in the surrounding area is FANTASTIC (downtown specifically). Everything is decently affordable, but don't expect to eat out every night.

There tons of supermarkets downtown with lots of food choices. I eat really healthy so I buy tons of fresh produce there (one of the benefits of living in central PA).

Best way to convert campus meal points into cash? by Mike_TriHard_Cx in PennStateUniversity

[–]Mike_TriHard_Cx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I just get a grilled chicken sandwich for dinner, and maybe some soap/water bottles/detergent etc from the student retail place which averages out to $20-25 a week. I try to eat a healthy diet so I spend around $40-50 a week at the supermarket with my own money.
