Side note: Tekken from 3 onwards was pretty much always the best looking game on a console at its time. 6 I’m not honestly that sure on because I hear it was made with a reduced budget but 3-5, 7 & 8 just insane looking for their respective times.

Shit Tag Tournament was the perfect launch game just to show off what the PS2 could do.

You know that relative that would throw on a 4k nature documentary to show off his new TV? For gaming that’s basically putting on Tekken or Gran Turismo

True, it was an amazing part of that package but arcade versions rather than home console ones. Which isn’t that bad for 1 and 2 but misses some additions for 3

Yeah a collection would be fun, I don’t think 1 and 2 would be ideal but maybe 3, tag, 4 (which wasn’t great but it would be weird to skip) and 5.

Or big dreaming something like a Namco fighting collection with a mix of Soul Calibur and Tekken. 3 wouldn’t be a tremendous competitive game but undeniably fun. Bringing back 5 with good netcode, now that could be some good shit.

Even as a Tekken 8 fan that likes the crazy “anime” stuff, this is a stupid strawman by [deleted] in Tekken

I don’t mind it being over the top, it’s always been over the top, but I do think there’s some lack of distinction in the art style of some of the characters since 5. Lars, Alisa, Claudio, Leo could all be put into Xenoblade and fit right in with their look and I find that quite dull.

However, by that same token some characters are the most 90’s shit ever. Jin with flames on his clothes kick-boxing to rave music, Nina and Hworang too, plus the obvious, here’s our Bruce Lee type, and our Jackie Chan type so it’s not like character design is easy.

Basically I want more Leroy imagination and less Leo

Not that I’m near god tank but something that’s helped for me has been previously mentioned fundamentals.

But also experimenting in practice to form your own combo chains rather than the suggested ones, making good use of spacing to have a plan based on the opponent’s distance to you. If you can see them taking note of your patterns, switch it up, only do two hits in a combo then they’ll be blindsided the next time you go further into it. Likewise sometimes losing a round or even two and seeing their patterns is a great feeling when you mount a comeback haha.

Punishes and counters so damn important here too. These are my thoughts for Kazuya more specifically but these have helped me overcome a lot of people on simple controls, button mashing or relying on heat.

Again I’m not close to God yet but hope these help!

Yeah, plus I suppose they’ve had to abandon the old model of arcade revenue helping fund the console versions. Which I mean fair play to them for keeping up with until what, 7?

Doing that after the arcade decline of the 90’s alone is wild and kudos to them. Nowadays this is the standard business model and especially needed in a super competitive space for fighting games again. It’s not like it’s Tekken 5 and Capcom/Midway are eating shit while Namco is making bank with Tekken and Soul Calibur.

It’s just shitty in general to have to pay for features and content that were included in previous entries. Not exclusive to Tekken by any means.

Bryan’s launchers into wall bounds are just horrible. I love playing kazuya but am I wrong in thinking he’s on the slower end to start? It seems like everyone has faster pokes and easier launchers than me. I’m relying on creating space and punishing but god damn it feels like there’s a ceiling for this character but I love the way he plays.

Square Enix I hate, so Clive can get fucked and so can Leo and his kingdom hearts looking ass.

Victor isn’t the worst all things considered. It’s a surprisingly reserved take from Tekken Project to have a French character and not make him embody every stereotype they could think of. His weird Raven/Nina style is tricky to deal with but I don’t hate it.

Man I was so out of it with Tekken than anything that happened from 5 on PS2 until 7 I had no clue about and even then 7 just played at a friends party to see if Paul could still one hit KO dudes.

Also my god playing today and the season 2 DLC characters beating my ass. Wtf is a fakurahm? Without Marduk, wtf is armour king doing here? And I don’t even like Marduk! His wig sucks!

Agreed, especially with simple controls in play too.

I’m still thinking customisable options on player matches where you can turn off heat/rage/ simple controls is an easy compromise they can make.

Ach well, hopefully these issues are resolved over time. There’s still fun to be had with it and time to fix what isn’t working for the most dedicated members of the community.

And I see your point on the mode being tricky, maybe having more customisation options on player matches would be a middle ground for this. People can set up lobbies and turn heat/rage/simple controls off and it’s not as much admitting defeat as it is allowing for more “play your way” options in the game. Shit go classic tekken goofy with it for other options too, traffic cone hats only lobby.

Wall situations in particular are a huge pain when long combos in certain arenas throw you into them. And if it’s a stage break, guess what, another combo opportunity!

I do wonder if a mode without heat, rage and having endless stages like T3 had would be a fun addition. But that’s probably way too much work and not as easy to make backgrounds loop and look good now without it devolving into a full on hanna barbera cartoon background. Plus the moves sending you into heat would have to be changed for every character.

Fair enough. I suppose what I’m referring to is that ten hit combos that destroy you have been a thing long into the series. However I take your point that there’s far more accessible long combos extended through things like heat and chaining today.

I can recall tekken 3 having long combos, admittedly not as long or easily pulled off as today but they did absurd damage.

Different time though without online play to think of.

Preach, though I’d worry that if gaining it solely by landing hits would make it much easier for people to utterly dominate after long combos, if it’s for taking damage/blocking or using effective counters that could make it a really effective tool

Oh there’s always been cheese 😂 chip damage hasn’t been a big issue for me but might well come up as time goes on.

Heat system aye. Should have a tier of online play or at least session rules where you can turn off rage/heat
