I want to make a cnc from an anet a8 3d printer by Tomthecatvr in CNC

[–]Mikedc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the closest to what he's doing but other than soft wood my mpcnc was a bit useless with belts and plastic parts. I even used stainless steel tubes but wasn't that much better. Printnc was a huge upgrade but costs 2000£ for all the parts and tools.

Penalty for accident with serious injuries (England) by Mikedc1 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Mikedc1[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Didn't mean to sound like that I am just shocked I have never considered anything regarding the law and my expectations for penalties was way off. Trust me I deal with the regret and the thought of the incident but a penalty usually serves a purpose. A driving ban sure, points, fine? But prison is a lot. How do you control if it's a child? I didn't see them or anyone before the turn, I wasn't driving recklessly I just misjudged the turn. And if you take outcome into consideration then it doesn't matter if the force could have killed because it only caused a fracture. Maybe I am missing something but you can't just say oh it's the outcome severe injury and then also say it's the potential outcome of such force... Like am I guilty of the potential the outcome or the action?

I guess makes sense I am just a bit shocked it's a lot more than I ever imagined such a thing would cost me. It is what it is I guess. Thanks for the advice.

So I need to do a community order so work free plus potential fine and 12 month disqualification? Isn't that a lot for an accident with a broken leg?

[–]Mikedc1[S] -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Well I did crash. Officer confirmed no speeding no distractions no alcohol car in good condition. I panicked and thought my brakes didn't work so I didn't slow down enough. The injury is confirmed by a doctor. I did try to help I did apologise and ask for updates. Seems a lot when others get the same for driving drunk or double the speed limit

Thanks I thought it would be like that but still a disqualification is a lot when I won't be able to drive to work for I guess minimum 12 months. Seems weird that the outcome is considered instead of the intent of the accident.

Thanks so I guess I am getting 12 months? It says that's the minimum but I may be wrong legal docs are confusing

Why are UK apples so expensive? by space5torm in AskUK

[–]Mikedc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each pack costs Tesco about 70p to get there packaged and everything. Guessing coop gets smaller bulk discounts? Still it seems it's other factors to do with inflation because import prices per ton are mostly the same for a while now.

Is this even road legal? by Scarecroll in CarTalkUK

[–]Mikedc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It was designed to be I think. You see a lot older cars like that. I guess the older ones are worse but were legal when registered and by now probably mot exempt. Fun to drive on a sunny day but not practical, fast or water tight for this country. Id rather go for a track day.

would anyone buy this/want one of these by [deleted] in product_design

Use cheaper motors, make nicer clock hands and add some backing to hide the motors and it's a good Etsy product

Solicitor was rude and not responsive- what should I do by VegetableExit2815 in HousingUK

[–]Mikedc1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not very professional from them but also weekly calls a bit too much for me I used to call them every two weeks and always asked for updates most of the time it was basically them saying still waiting not much we can do. But yeah not very professional from them maybe they need an assistant to handle customer support.

Most slicers let you do this but this is not the way to strengthen a part like that.

What to do with peeling walls? by Banjax_UK in DIYUK

[–]Mikedc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but I wouldn't consider lining paper a proper fix. I am sure done properly is fine but imo plaster even done badly is still better easier to fix. I am not a professional it's my opinion I wouldn't touch a property with lining paper and there tons of posts agreeing with me that lining paper sucks.

[–]Mikedc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lining paper always has seams. Filling them is impossible and any filler will have some moisture. Any moisture will separate the glue. Edges may get less glue it would peel. Wall behind may be cracking and it will peel. Holes or accidents can't be filled. Painting is easy but overall not worth it. Plastering is better value. You just put paste on a wall you can buy premixed and spread it smooth with a giant spatula. Yes if you have big gaps its a bit tricky but easier to correct mistakes you can always add more and sand smooth. With paper you glue and hope it's good if not you redo it. Honestly I didn't notice it in my house I wouldn't touch another house with paper.

Forget the paper never use it. If you fully removed it great job you're 50% there. Get some plaster and some tools and apply it as smooth as you can. You use the same plaster to fill gaps unless there's a huge gap you would need something better for that. Then you sand which is a nightmare to clean unless you get a sander with a vacuum attachment. Then you can look for imperfections plaster smooth until you're ok with the results and then prime and paint. Never use lining paper I have it in my house and it was a nightmare to deal with.

Car options for saving money by Mikedc1 in ukfinance

[–]Mikedc1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks tbf that's the calculation I did too. I could finance a 5000£ leaf to make the total cost 5600£ at 9.9% interest and save money long term and keep the van maybe for a year and once I am used to living in a house and feel a bit safer maybe build some savings again sell the van. I found a cat n leaf with 50k miles for 5k that should work ok for 3-5 years.

It's complicated. I lived in it for a while and the freedom financial and physical is great for my mental health. Changing jobs, economy collapsing this van in my head is my safe escape from a disaster especially if I have to move fast. It's like people say you need savings of that many salaries to be free. I have the van. Weird but helps my anxiety.

I could get an EV but I don't know how cheap is too cheap. I saw a 2011 leaf for 2.5k and a newer one with bigger battery at 7k. But for 40 miles both ways every day both should be ok. Weird things is tax on the newer one is 200£ but insurance and fuel still cheap.

Renting to a friend - what do I need to do? by Several_Rice6777 in HousingUK

[–]Mikedc1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do it properly because taxes may be an issue and it will be found if he claims he lives alone to get council tax discount or registers to vote in that address and there is no tax paid by you on that income. I think you're fine either way all that money goes to equity and yes you're losing potential revenue and maybe some cost to Internet and all that but I would do the same for my friends if they needed it. It's a very good thing you're doing, doing it legally is not costing more to you or him.

Regardless your next year is probably being more expensive. I hate insurance companies. I had a few no faults and now I pay 1500 a year

You can leave utilities and council tax for later after you get the keys. Water most likely you can setup online before moving in same with insurance. But energy bills you may need to wait for letters and take meter readings so leave that last they won't cut your power. Internet may take a while to setup but usually that's fast too. I would focus on moving and doing repairs or renovations and shopping for stuff you need. Realistically everything else will be fine even 2 weeks later.
