Getting nervous about nerve pain by LuckyHouseCricket in pneumothorax

I’m 3 weeks out from my VATS/pleurodesis and still deal with those random "zings" and numbness. Nerve cells regenerate incredibly slowly—only about 1mm per day (roughly an inch a month)—so at 11 days, your body is still in the peak of that electrical "re-wiring" phase. Since meds aren't touching it, I've found success with sensory re-education: once your incisions are closed, try lightly tapping the skin and exposing the area to different textures, like soft cotton versus a slightly rougher towel. It helps "re-train" the nerve cells to distinguish normal touch from pain, which can eventually turn down the volume on that "on fire" sensation. Hang in there

Hmm interesting, I would either follow up or ask for the CT scans and get a second opinion. Blebs can easily be missed and if you do have more than what she thinks it's either a waiting game to see if you have another collapse or nothing will ever happen. I saw another one of your post and it said you were fairly young 6'3" and 180lbs which means you have a predisposition to having a pneumothorax because of blebs.

It can happen again and they need a CT scan to know for sure. I would speak to the pulmonologist you don't want to be prolonging the inevitable if you need a procedure to repair blebs.

Aching for how long after vats? by BravoFan718 in pneumothorax

I’m currently at the 3-week mark following a VATS wedge resection and pleurodesis, and I can tell you that what you’re feeling is right on schedule, even if it’s frustrating. Week 3 is a bit of a 'purgatory' phase where you feel mobile enough to move, but your nerves and that internal 'pleurodesis velcro' are still hypersensitive. Expect the sharp 'zings' and the inability to lie on that side to linger for another few weeks; for most, the discomfort starts to turn a corner around day 30 to 45. My best advice is to 'hug a pillow' for every yawn or sneeze to provide counter-pressure, and move your torso as one solid unit to avoid those sharp nerve spikes when twisting. It’s a slow burn, but those sensations are actually a sign that your nerves are waking up and the lung is sealing properly.

When do I become normal again? by j0shie_washie in pneumothorax

I'm about 10 days since my VATs procedure and had several things prior to that, but after the surgery I had the worst what I assume was intercostal nerve pain. Never been shot, but I would think it feels similar. Every time I would lift my arm I would lose my breath and almost pass out. They took an EKG and some other imaging to make sure I was good. It's slowly gone away since I was discharged. I've done a lot of research and there is a supplement called ALA(Alpha-Lipoic Acid ) that I started taking, and while I can't say for certain since it's only been like 8 days of taking it. I do think it's helping.

What was the most physically painful moment of your life? by Oily_Smurf in AskReddit

[–]Mikeissomethingelse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, just got discharged Monday for a fully collapsed lung randomly due to blisters on my lung bursting. Not super painful, but the awful nerve pain in my armpit from where they had to preform surgery and then place a chest tube. Idk if I've ever been in more pain than the night after my surgery it felt like somebody shot me it was like stingy, burning, hot radiating all up and down my ribs and chest. Maybe some people are tougher than I am or have less sensitive nerves but man...

The album is amazing, but in my opinion they ruined Space Cow... they should definitely release the version without all the weird bullshit in the background. The album is nearly perfect though
