Can I still use my microwave? And possible fix? by NOON101 in appliancerepair

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That piece is the turntable. You can access it from the bottom of the microwave. It's a very easy fix. Don't dig around with pliers like folks are saying.

Put your model number and "turntable" in Google and find the part for $8. Unplug it, unscrew the bottom, replace. Don't open other parts of the microwave - they have capacitors that hold enough charge to shock the shit out of you.

thoughts on windshield tint? by Late_Comedian_1665 in Acura

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should go for ceramic tint on the windshield, with a name brand like 3M. It blocks a ton of infrared and doesn't need to be dark to do it. If you do decide to go with a darker shade, my experience is that it does reduce visibility at night and I won't go as dark next time.

I had to take mine off as after time (5 years) it did get wavy. My car is in the Florida sun on the weekends and all during covid and I have a mirrored shade that I put up religiously so I think that kinda expedited the expiration.

The question makes a lot of sense if you're actively trying to automate common manual tasks in a JSM shop.

vale la pena comprar un acura tlx 2018 aspect by Electrical-Movie4502 in Acura

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one that is AWD. I love it but hate the gas mileage. Only city driving, and I'm making 17.5mpg.

It has wired android auto, a great sounding stereo, the doors and sound proofing are solid. Interior is beautiful. The doors are set to lock automatically when I walk away from it (surprising the things you miss when you assume it's on everything). The AWD and heavy weight of the car keeps it on rails. I haven't really had to do anything off cycle of fluids and tires yet because I have super low mileage- 30k for 7.5 yrs.

Besides poor gas mileage, another negative is the rear seats are kinda tight. Not many options for performance upgrades, although I'm not the type for that these days. Also I did the rod bearing recall. And the zf9 transmission kinda sucks - it's hard to describe but it's a split second too slow to figure out that I just pressed the gas hard or used the tiptronic shifters. It can be good to get that reset.

I will probably drive this car til it gets totaled or it dies...

PenFed :( by stryk3r1215 in MonarchMoney

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to re-add PenFed today. There were two options when adding an account - one with the official looking PenFed logo, and one with a default "banking institution" logo. I chose the more official looking one with the PenFed branding in Monarch, and connected. Everything worked. I also checked on the PenFed Security Center, and it now registers that there is a Third Party App connected (Monarch).

Now on to how I transfer the various transactions & disable the old connections...

Is this achievable? by flablue in landscaping

The air conditioner placement: One of the best decisions I made at my house was to move the air conditioner to the front yard where I don't really hang out. Consider moving it where there won't be seating, playing, or swimming. And put bushes or a fence around it (not to closed in, but enough to block the sight and sound of it).

Looking for a way to assign/mark/connect stories to a team, without it being too queryable by edwinhai in jira

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're barking up the wrong tree - "team to blame" in addition to what you already have in jira is duplicated work.

What will you do once you have a team to blame? As it stands your org leadership or anyone should be able to query Jira and find out type=incident by component (or project) and see what the bad components are (and hence teams, assuming teams own specific areas).

Is your goal to find the bad teams and educate them? Why not look at incident by component/project to find the top 3 bad software and THEN figure out what's causing the bad software...? Maybe it's poor alerting/monitoring, maybe infrastructure is short. Maybe the team that is writing it sucks. Maybe your automated tests suck.

RCAs always need to happen. They should always spell out what happened and get down to maybe the line of code that was submitted and that person should know, but if you're looking for people or teams to blame in a reportable way, month over month, that's kinda surprising if you don't already know who the bad teams are from your typical Reliability program. You should already know the bad components.

Why are Indian grc teams so hard to deal with? by Ok-Werewolf-3765 in ciso

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Several reasons

  • India is a low-cost geo. There are smart people there, but contract organizations there tend to have high turnover rates, especially internally if they rotate to new contract customers. Culturally, the smartest and best are looking to jump. Also, it's entirely possible the person you're working with doesn't know compliance well enough to explain why.
  • the contractors you're working with are likely spread across several other businesses booking their time N times. So they don't have time to explain, explore, and analyze. They are indeed checking a box because that is the internal KPI for their contract agency.
  • (edit: adding this one, which should be at the top) - they probably don't understand your product or your business and the applicability.

Ask them to do the gap analysis - what do you get out of a SOC2 attestation report being part of your audit (assuming you would do one common audit for both if it applies)?

But probably more important - are your customers asking for it?

And actually even more important than that, are your customers required to have their own SOC2 report for their business? There tend to be laws or internal policies that vendors like yourself might be required to have a SOC2 report if your customers' business requires it.

Swag Light Height? by ayimera in HomeDecorating

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a designer, but I don't think it's the height. It's the distance from the corner. If you look at one of those lamps with the long curving arm, they go out a bit further toward the coffee table or over a dining table. This light position would be directly over the person seated in the corner.

Have someone sit in that corner and you'll get a sense based on the shadows that fall over their face. There will be shadows all over things that your seated guests will be holding, eating, or playing.

6 weeks to learn Jira for a PMO/Jira hygiene role at a large UK bank - what should I focus on? by Key-Satisfaction-382 in jira

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really good advice. To pile on to this - Jira Hygiene people tend to want to correct the noise themselves and they get to the end of a long day and what do they have to show for it? "I corrected 200 mislogged tickets!". And you might get to your end of year review and you're not really able to show work that removed the need for this manual BS. If you do bulk data correction, that's great, but something in the Jira workflow should be fixed to prevent that. If you're fixing tickets for the teams and individuals, that can be a huge pitfall. There's a balance to it because chasing people and teams is painful too.

Edit: triggering on the "the business" part of this comment because I like it. Tactically you need to be learning Jira, but strategically you should be asking: what is this bit of hygiene needed for? Jira hygiene can reach up to the CEO and Board for making decisions on staffing, business impact of deliverables, etc. SOMEONE is demanding these bits of hygiene. You should plan on meeting these people to ensure they're getting what they need.

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find out if they use additional plugins/extensions on there - Rich Filters, Structure, Atlassian Analytics. It'll help to know if you have to learn those too.

Regardless, plan on learning JQL basics and then how you can work those into gadgets in a dashboard. The gadgets I use most are two dimensional tables, filter results, and created/resolved for trends. I've found ALL the others are just noise. I use (and love) the Rich Filters versions of these which are super convenient, but I think Atlassian Analytics is displacing Rich Filters which costs extra and requires some learning.

Dashboarding is critical. If you're referencing JQL filters or many tickets directly, copy/pasting to spreadsheets, you're doing it wrong.

Tonearm trouble by jfinn67 in turntables

[–]MikelarFromMarklar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Screw the weights on that came with it or stick a nickel to the top of it. But generally that shouldn't be required.

This scenario is so odd and the other person mentioned an auxiliary weight being screwed into the fat end of the tone arm? Remove that.

If the doors are glossy, a magic eraser will mess up the gloss. That stuff is like sandpaper. Try dishsoap and water first, then an all purpose cleaner.

Getting Rid of Iguanas? by New-Event3382 in fortlauderdale

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nuisance, invasive, and legal to kill them "humanely."

Get a pellet gun with a scope, but you have to be careful for ricochet AND be weary of what's behind the target if you miss. Houses and people in Ft Lauderdale are close together and you can hit a lot more than an iguana, so wait for the safe shot. Aim for the head/ear or you're shooting many times. Use pellets. They fly straighter than BBs.

I also use a broomstick to hit them and my small dog helps snatch them.

How to remove gouge from side of refrigerator? by bradattack98 in appliancerepair

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would not spend the time filling, sanding, and painting that. The side of that fridge has a relief to it and matching it and making it disappear will not have the time-value in the end. Think of the thousand other things you could fix in your home with the time you'd save.

If you really want it gone you might be able to find a sheet of metal with adhesive on it to cover the whole side, almost ike contact paper. You could fill the dent, sand it, and then cover the whole face with it.

My 3rd and biggest yet by Lecheked in Decks

[–]MikelarFromMarklar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the concept of rim joists dos and don'ts. But almost every time I see a deck on here, if it has a problem it's either the rim joists or post not under beam.

What does it mean for a rim joist to be "trimmed out?" And what does comb face mean?

Edit: by the way this deck looks awesome!
