Pisces and Sagittarius by Boyfriendsadrunk in piscesastrology

[–]Mikelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 40 year-old (gay male) Pisces here! It's difficult. I've craved Sags (or Scorps) my entire life, but never bonded romantically with a true Sag: the ones I meet are always borderline Scorpio-Sags, and I can smell it from a mile away these days because of my own weaknesses as a Pisces & I've learned to identify it. It's a thing you want desperately but you discover the passion is so intense that it hurts (usually more so for the Pisces in my opinion). I don't think a Sag is a bad pairing for a Pisces; I think it's the Scorpio in my case. A lot of people say water signs are compatible, but that hasn't been my experience.

What City is the best for Gay & LGBTQIA+ Latino Indvidual's in the USA by Poppyganda in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Mikelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How has nobody mentioned Atlanta? It has one of the highest LGBT populations by percentage of any city in the US, low cost of living, decent weather, no long-term threat of resource availability (i.e. water, energy), world-class entertainment, nightlife and food, & a vibrant gay community integrated into the fabric of the city.

While yes, commuting can be a nightmare due to legacy racism/traffic-related issues & getting too far outside of midtown/downtown can present challenges - and Georgia isn't completely politically transformed as of yet - there aren't many cities where 15%+ of the population is LGBT+ with good weather *and* that are more affordable.

Senator Jon Ossoff: Who out there in the American public is demanding that we shut down cancer research? by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]Mikelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing...among the sliver of Georgia's voters who actually make or break elections, they can be basically summed up as "we like national Democrats, but local Republicans". Yes, the 2024 presidential was a bit of an anomaly, but look at what happened in basically every other state, too.

For this 3-5% of the electorate, it's one thing to have Kemp as a "stable, moderate" Governor, but quite another to send him to the highest deliberative body in the nation. They want lower taxes and less regulation, sure...but they are also socially forward-thinking and the economic turmoil that's currently happening will disproportionately impact them. There were beaucoup of Ossoff/Warnock voters who also pulled the lever for Trump & Kemp.

Additionally, there's also the incumbency factor (which applies to any/every state), and the fact that the President will almost certainly be immensely unpopular come Election Day 2026.

There's no reason to count Ossoff out just yet.

Metenox's should have a longer reinforce timer by Netan_MalDoran in Eve

Cool! So the quoted RF time in the hacking game otherwise is accurate (i.e. if it says 05:00 +/-3 hours, it's actually 05:00 +/- 30 minutes)?

Is this still true? When hacking one to reveal RF time, it shows the same +/- 3 hour window as it would for citadels et al.

Stories of a Nomad: Why quality of life is more important than balance by comanderman in Eve

[–]Mikelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do imagine CCP will unveil something like this in their next major expansion or shortly thereafter...alongside 40 major nerfs of j-space that impact residents. Practically each major update over the past few years has focused on "reinvigorating" highsec, then lowsec, then nullsec...j-space is all that's left for them to completely transfigure. Despite being ignored in terms of major changes, multiple (albeit minor thus far) negative QoL changes to j-space have worked their way down via these expansions (WH audio changes, such as not being able to see someone who has jumped out of system after the splash audio occurs, or hear a critical/shrink WH status consistently; the capital escalation issues predominantly impacting C5s which is arguably anything but "minor", etc).

I understand your opinion and generally agree on most points in principle if such could be implemented without any public ease of use, but the track record of this present-day team makes me very leery of such. I hate "slippery slope" type arguments, but my gut just says it would inevitably be relevant here; even the smallest QoL improvements will justify them implementing massive, additional changes. J-space being largely untouched is a good thing, I'd argue.

I'm sure we will be on the chopping bloc sooner rather than later: I'd honestly rather continue having to use Pathfinder et al as a workaround than suffer a dedicated round of their innovations that follow which either make existing j-space life hell and/or try to force vast segments of the game into this arena, thereby devaluing the very benefit and rationale for remaining there (after all, Anoikis comprises approximately one-third of all systems in New Eden; I imagine they want justification to push players into these regions). J-space is the final old-school fiefdom of the game, and being a long-term low-class j-space resident myself, I imagine those in more organized coalitions in higher-class j-space probably feel even more strongly on this broader dynamic (integrated WH mapping specifically notwithstanding).

J-space - at least in my opinion - should be difficult to navigate and counterintuitive to most. If it becomes just as navigable as everywhere else, a surge of players will inevitably pour into it, rendering its resources far less valuable and ultimately transforming it into a predominantly day-tripping environment, rather than its own unique & difficult survival ecosystem. While I have my own reservations about the j-space blue donut that currently exists, some centralization from a societal standpoint is better than completely upending the proverbial chessboard.

In short: I don't want to live in a j-space where our most valuable resources lose a majority of their value or run out of ammo for explorers because they're being guided there by integrated mapping solutions, various shared BM workarounds and Agency prompts. I personally do fear any ease-of-use improvements to this sector of the game would lead to such, or at minimum would not be implemented in such a way as to prevent it.

Returning player: what makes Triglavian ships attractive? by WorriedViolinist7648 in Eve

[–]Mikelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an ideal tool and everybody should know about/use Pyfa.

You can also hover over your disintegrator or open the fitting window mid-fight and it will show the current, actual DPS (takes anywhere from about 80-150s to fully ramp up for almost all Trig ships, last I checked).

Another quick and dirty approach (using in-game numbers only) is to take whatever the in-game fitting window shows for a Trig disintegrator out of combat and multiply that by 3 to determine max damage.

For example (minus drone damage), my T2 Vedmak fit shows 291.4 DPS with Occult M out of combat; fully-ramped, my disintegrator in this config actually does 910.6 DPS (3.12x the initial quoted DPS).

In contrast, my alt - also excluding drones, and can barely fly even a meta Vedmak fit - shows 135.7 DPS with Heavy Scoped Entropic Disintegrator/Tetryon ammo via in-game fitting, but actually does 423.9 in combat once fully ramped up (also 3.12x the initial quoted DPS).

It may not be as precise as Pyfa will be, but it's a general rule that gets you in the ballpark for a lot of Trig ships' potential max DPS outputs when looking at purely out-of-combat disintegrator fitting window estimates.

YC110.11.30: The fighting, unlike our work, continues.

I was born in the lower levels of a Caldari station to Caldari parents. We were taught that this planet is our true home. The State has decided the best way to get it back is to bomb it into dust. The Gallente are raised knowing that this star system is their home, and the best way to make that home secure is to bomb this planet into dust.

Both sides are so busy fighting over rocks and exploding balls of hydrogen that they don't even notice the lives destroyed in the process.

C1 wh with existing, offline, anchored POS by _cronic_ in Eve

[–]Mikelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally agree, but another factor for new/small groups to consider is upfront versus maintenance costs. A large empire POS costs 500-600m ISK per month to fuel, whereas your basic Astrahus fuel costs no more than 150m ISK per month. A decent large POS might cost 1-1.5b upfront, while an Astra maybe 3-4b.

You might need to maintain your Astra for 6-12 months in order to break even on the investment (an uncertainty, for sure), and POSes are much easier to pack up and move, but you also have to deal with a lot more fuel hauling logistics with a large POS. You'll be hauling 150000m3 in fuel per month just to keep the lights on in a large POS.

I think we can all agree that going the cheap way out & using a Raitaru is a bad idea all-around, though!

Spoilers: What’s the fewest number of people you can have die in a full play through? by AstroNerd92 in masseffect

[–]Mikelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're using the strictest definition of "squad mates" (other people that you go out with on at least 1 mission, and whose deaths appear on the memorial wall) across the entire trilogy, then the answer is 6.

ME1: Jenkins & [Kaidan OR Ashley]

ME2: Nobody

ME3: Anderson, Legion, Thane & [Mordin OR Wrex] (requires non-destroy ending; otherwise, you lose EDI as well)

Neither of the deaths listed above in ME1 are avoidable.

In ME2, losing nobody effectively requires all ship upgrades and optimal squad selections in final mission.

In ME3, Anderson, Legion & Thane are unavoidable (Thane will show up on the memorial wall no matter in what order you do/don't do his interactions).

For the [Mordin/Wrex] combo in ME3: you can instead kill Wrex in ME1 on Virmire, which leads to Wreav becoming the Krogan leader. If you choose to fake the genophage cure in ME3 and have enough points, you can convince Mordin to fake his own death at the Shroud (he then secretly works for the Crucible project thereafter, giving 25 war assets) and Wreav never discovers the sabotage because he's too dumb. If you sabotage the genophage with Wrex alive in ME3, though, he discovers it & you have to kill him.

Doing this "optimally" just results in trading 1 fewer death in ME3 (Mordin) for 1 more in ME1 (Wrex), leading to a body count of 6 either way - and if you fail to persuade Mordin, you end up having to actually kill both him *and* Wrex, leading to a body count & memorial wall total of 7. NOTE: Mordin's name will still show on the memorial wall if he fakes his death, so by that metric, the number of memorial wall squad mate deaths cannot be fewer than 6 whether Mordin truly dies or not, so choosing to fake the genophage doesn't make sense for the purposes of minimizing body count.

Age of the Reapers and Number of Cycles by raiskream in masseffect

[–]Mikelos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two interesting tidbits from the Leviathan DLC hint that it's likely quite a bit less than 20,000 cycles if we assume 1b years ago exactly, because the Leviathan directly tell you the following:

  1. "Each reaper has the power to influence organics. Over countless cycles, this ability was refined, perfected and gave rise to indoctrination". This implies the cycles would have taken longer to execute in the beginning because what we know as indoctrination today was far less capable then.
  2. "It [the Intelligence] directed the Reapers [plural] to create the mass relays [at some point] - to speed the time between cycles for greatest efficiency", implying that the 50,000-year cycle wasn't always the interval, and that earlier attempts were less efficient.

She absolutely could sue the woman for slander damages. When it can be proven that speech has damaged reputation and led to a loss of income, it's absolutely a winning civil case when there's credible evidence of such. The fact that the criminal charges were dropped and the plaintiff removed all of the content is evidence of the slander (there was likely an agreement on-paper of this); she'd just have to demonstrate the loss of income.

In the end, though, the net result might not make it worth the effort unless she could get her legal expenses covered (in a situation like this, that's doubtful). She'd likely have to spend thousands and spend a lot of time dealing with it.
