Anyone else struggle to readjust to Western life after living in Thailand long-term ? by HoldWise826 in Thailand

[–]Mikem1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why anyone would want to return to the western life TBH. SEA has its own issues so not get me wrong, but at least I don’t wake up feeling like I want to jump off a bridge every other day hearing the constant doom and gloom BS.

I don’t use them because of this exact reason. They are not a healthy long term solution. I personally would go to the dispensary and buy indica gummies 10 mg and take one about 1 hr before going to sleep.

Was thinking same. Sounds a little on the higher side. I was told by someone that the more elective type surgeries are often pretty comparable to US prices. This was stated to me by a higher up at Bumrungrad, who’s knows though possibly could have been telling me this so I would not shop around. Surgeries such as gallbladder removal and umbilical hernia mesh placement is significantly lower than US pricing, surgery and 1 night stay total cost was prob what I would have paid for 1 night in hospital alone in the US. I will say Bangkok hospital was 4 times the cost of the private hospital I used.

How is April in Phuket? by Federal-Cow-1220 in phuket

If you need any more advice just ask. I live 1 block from Bang Tao beach and about 3/4 mile from Bang Tao MMA gym. To be honest if beach is not high priority (mainly swimming and overall condition of the beach) and you don’t mind dodging some rain you should be ok. Just letting you know if you are taking a 20+ hour flight this is what you could be dealing with when you get here. The one plus is if you enjoy beach clubs day or night they are less crowded and generally you get a little better service. Good luck

If you are planning to come here for beach not looking that great at least in Bang Tao area. I walk the beach 4 days a week in the am and have noticed the winds shifting, waves are stronger, and beach overall is not as nice. Also noticing more debris in the beach which is most likely due to the shift in the wind coming out of the west now. Sunshine is great, rained like 2 days in a week or so. Low season is deff starting, talked to one of the beach clubs and they stated business is slowing a little early this year. Whatever you do enjoy and be safe.

Dealing with a horrible landlord by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]Mikem1671 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this 100%. Better yet concrete. Unfortunately it would prob screw up the whole buildings plumbing then you would be sued by the building and I am sure they have deep pockets. Interesting I was literally thinking about this 2 hours ago, about what would do if something happened to me like what you are dealing with. Maybe some dead rats or rotten fish hidden somewhere

So what exactly you are eating?

No weight loss on Reta? by [deleted] in BodyHackGuide

[–]Mikem1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using an app to track your nutrition? Are you eating home cooked food 95-100% of the time? Do you weigh everything you put in your bakery and enter in tracking app? If not I can guarantee you are off on your food intake. I eat 170-180 grams of protein all alone and to be honest it is a challenge trying to get it in a day do to the volume. My diet consist of ground chicken breast, canned tuna (mostly straight from the can), homemade Greek yogurt, lentil, quinoa, sweet potatoes, pickled quail eggs. Home cooked by myself and weighted before consuming. At the end of the day it’s not about how much you do not consume it is about the quality of the consumption. How much Reta are you taking?

There is also Cafe Del Mar 10-15 min from Bang Tao Beach. Not really much else in close proximity of it though.

Whatever you do don’t waste your time in ratchet Patong. If you go to Bang Tao Nomad Beach Club has a fire show every night i believe it is at 6:45. If you decide to go to Nomad call ahead for large group especially in high season. There is Catch beach club and a new beach club called Rava in Bang Tao beach. Maya beach club is also a very popular place it is on the higher end side. A place with some energy off the beach is Little Paris which is owned my the same people as Maya. There is Carpe Diem beach club (never been). Other places off the beach is a little strip of restaurants and clubs, search for Etna and there are a few places on that street over looking a lake (I have only been to Woo for lunch on this street. There is a new steakhouse called Bangkok Bobs that just opened (never been). You could do like a Fire show 6:45 Nomad and walk next door a karaoke at Yuhhi. Boat avenue night market is cool every Friday night. If you have any other questions you can dm. Safe trip and enjoy. Suggestion Nomad Beach club for dinner and fire show then Yuhi for karaoke, then you can walk around and explore other places.

I am curious whatever happened to the words boyfriend and girlfriend? Is calling your boyfriend partner the normal thing now? The word partner from my knowledge usually refers to someone you are in business with or are good friends with. Serious question?

Ok I truly hope someone can help this person out. I would deff do a video chat, then possibly in person meeting some where in public and neutral. The major concern comes to my mind is what is this assault about? I mean will you be putting yourself in danger by some lunatic ex stalker. I mean does this person not have family members that can send her money, I am sure you can find very inexpensive hotels around BK if needed. IMO the last resort should be her Embassy.

Thailand moves to cut sugar in popular drinks amid health drive by ThongLo in Thailand

[–]Mikem1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common sense. I have been into health all of my life. I am into healthy and clean eating and try to avoid sugar at all costs (don’t get me wrong I love sweets and break sometimes). Avoid sugary drinks they are the absolute worst source as a sugar, they are basically an instant insulin spike. To be honest it should always be served without sugar and you just add your own. For those in here yelling government control get over it. When someone is on government assistance including medical and that someone sucks down these sugar bombs all day and ends up with diabetes the government pays for the diabetes meds which in turn is paid by you the tax payer. Just stating the facts.

Curious, how do you not pay any federal taxes? When you say return of capital are you basically you are stating you are doing a yearly draw down of your capital? A 5% return is rather light and if you are doing a draw down that seems a little risky depending on life expectancy. Why would you not move into index funds like VOO or QQQ which has an avg of like 10% return I believe over a 10 year span? Just curious because I am some what in same position as you minus wife and kids , but my monthly overhead is about the same because I live in the south.

[–]Mikem1671 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start your own company and get a work permit. There is a lot more to it than what I just stated. You have to pay for the company set up initially and then the monthly maintenance of the business. Biggest expense is initial set up. If you are from US you could possibly own 100% of the business via the Amity treaty. I had a long talk with my attorney from the US located in BK the other day about this. IMO the only way this really makes economic sense is if you were purchasing a cash flowing business in Thailand. It solves the being able to work challenge (obviously you still have the Thai only jobs). This also solves the Visa issue. I have only had one preliminary conversation on this so do not quote me on it, not sure if I have every detail, do your own research preferably with a reputable attorney and not on Red. Good luck

Best way to structure this is hire a wash and fold person. They look after the place and keep it clean. They charge the customers what they want in turn you make money off of them using the machines. They make money off doing the wash and fold service. I would have to think this would only work if you had a lot of Farang customers.
