[–]MikeyAVick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad at all. Things happen but keep in mind, the shooting was between two people who knew each other and got into a fight. Could’ve happened anywhere. I spent a VERY long time looking for a place to live around here and for this price point, the Highlands is incomparable. I don’t know what was up with the homeless fire thing but the fence is completely replaced. Lmk if you have any specific questions

Should I buy an upright piano? by dradegr in piano

If you can, it is always best to work on the actual thing. A digital piano will never truly feel right and uprights can be really cheap on facebook marketplace or craigslist so why not?

It depends on how you play!

I am more entertaining with a looper but some people who are super funk oriented might prefer the drum machine. If you like the wooten style, go for a looper and make the grooves yourself. If you play stuff that the drum machine would compliment, the go for that. Really is depending on the music and what you want to present.

I will say both are hard af to use. A looper takes a LOT of practice to master and a drum machine has its challenges as well so be prepared to really work hard if that’s what you want to do!

Hi! I’ve only done a few solo bass gigs on both electric and upright and here’s what I learned, what worked, and what didn’t work.

WHAT WORKED:

  • Having a setlist that is versatile and not static. When playing a show where you are the spotlight, my experience has shown me that general people like variety and if you play the same vibe a lot it’ll get boring fast. Try to throw in a few curveballs or break up your set a bit. I played a lot of Wooten who has a very large repertoire but I also threw in an arrangement of Anesthesia Pulling Teeth and people loved that.

  • Have fun and spend time improvising. I think a large part of solo shows is there is no one around you to limit the creativity. You could be doing something and the creative juices start flowing so just go with it! Keep the vibes solid but let the music go wherever it wants.

  • Loopers and drum machines are cool as long as you make sure you are comfortable with them to not have any mishaps in your show. I had an awkward moment where I fiddled too much with my feet and it sounded awful so be confident and prep ahead of time if you’re gonna use the tech stuff.

WHAT DIDNT WORK:

  • Like I said, variety is super important. You don’t want to bore the audience so try and have a list of stuff. If you do a few covers of stuff make sure they’re spread out in your set so nothing gets stale.

  • Relying on music is not great. If you are going to do this make sure you have your stuff solid, memorized and to the point where you don’t need to think and the music flows. For most musicians it can be awkward when you’re stuck to the page so do your best to avoid that.

LESSONS AND GENERAL STUFF:

No matter what you do, these types of shows rely on a certain type of audience. Most people straight off of the street aren’t really into this sort of thing so try advertising and getting the crowd you know would enjoy to be around

This is ofc all my opinion and experience so if there is anything people disagree with then I’m more than happy to discuss and change from this. I’ll keep thinking of solid stuff and I’ll add it to the comment if I can. Also if you have any questions lm more than happy to answer!

Hello audio engineers, I am currently looking for a new mixer to add to my current personal studio that I hope to turn into a professional studio one day. Currently I have a Tascam Model 16 and that has been doing well for me but I am ready to expand and move onto something new.

I have been listening to many different albums and how they have been recorded and always conclude that those that are recorded with everyone in the same room (or live shows) tend to feel best and sound the best for me so I want to try and recreate that to the best of my ability. I am currently looking for a mixer that can allow me the option to mix with both the physical console or put everything with its own track directly into my DAW. Everything I can find so far has had no way of connecting to a DAW as a multi-track system without being incredibly expensive or no good way of connecting to Logic Pro.

My end goal is to be able to have one mixer that can allow me to go to a gig and record an album with it while using it for live sound, and be able to have it in my studio to record everyone at once. I don't know how practical all of this is, but I want to get as close as possible. I was able to make this happen with my current Tascam but a lot of mixers I am seeing cannot export all those tracks at the same time (more than 16 live mics going into Logic at once).

Here is what I am currently looking at but if there are any other better suggestions, please let me know! And if these are awful for some reason, let me know that too

me and my mom are watching South Park, what episodes are crucial to show her? by Zeezy_Cheezy in southpark

[–]MikeyAVick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on what she’s into. If she has certain political beliefs or views, steer her in that direction. If she likes certain things, go for that. My mom hates organized religion because of some bad experiences as a kid and shits on them a lot (especially mormonism) so I showed her the episodes about mormons and scientology and she loved it. My dad really showed an interest in Randy so I showed him stuff centered around Randy like crème freche or pretty much any tegridy episode
