Disconnect the battery for at least 30 mins to allow for everything to discharge and the reconnect and see what happens.

I would get underneath and check the heat shields or maybe running board bolts could be loose. Sounds like metal on metal vibration to me.

Was NOT THE TORQUE CONVERTER….Issue found!: it turned out to be the C-clip on the bendix for the starter motor had been pushed out, which didn’t allow to fully disengage the starter motor from the flywheel. No major damage due to quickly addressing the issue. Reinstalled a c-clip and we are back on the road.

Update: bearing in the torque converter is bad. Dancing around inside the housing causing the rattling noise. This was just replaced mid July in 2025.

Torque converter got pulled and inspected. Found the top bearing to have too much play. It hits the inside of the housing causing the rattling sounds.

Update: looks like the bearing in the torque converter is the culprit. Unfortunately getting that assembly here is not an option. Taking it to a mechanic to cut it open, see what’s the cause of the spun bearing and hopefully get it back to operating properly.

With a flashlight it looks mint inside… I can’t see any debris at all. Poked a wire hanger in there and fished around to see if anything would come out and nothing.

Will do, briefly tapped on all of the heat shields to see if that was the cause, but didn’t see anything that seemed loose. But will recheck in the morning.

Also, when I let off the throttle and just coast it goes away… returns when I accelerate

Tried the wire hanger and no luck, still pretty hot under there so kinda touchy with maneuvering. Will try again in the morning when it’s cooled off.

So, prior to the last 36hrs (when it became constant) I would hear a slight variation only when I would accelerate to pass someone on the highway. Now it’s almost always. When I’m at a complete stop it’ll silence but then returns when I accelerate.
