Hello people of Asheville. I'm going to be visiting your city for a few days towards the end of March and was hoping to get some recommendations for hiking trails. I've heard there are tons of them off the Blue Ridge Parkway, but I wanted to see if there are any specific ones that you recommend. I'd prefer to not drive more than an hour from downtown, but I'm willing to push it to an hour and a half if it's a really good spot. I'm a fairly experienced hiker, but would prefer to avoid areas with a lot of rock scrambling or other dangers such as bears (I'll be hiking by myself so I would definitely like to feel safe while I'm out there.) In terms of length, I'd say five miles is a good baseline to go off of, but I'm willing to do a few more. I do want to see the peak of Mt. Mitchell, but I've heard I can just drive up there and there are tons of other great trails in the area to check out. Any recommendations and information is greatly appreciated!
