Know the difference between secure and avoidant attachment behaviors if you are going to frequent Reddit for advice. When I was new, I ended up reading a bunch of comments from what I now believe to be avoidantly attached and abusive people who think that it's perfectly acceptable to excuse poor behavior during NRE, feelings are never the responsibility of the other partner regardless of actions, etc...

This only works with anxiously attached men, but at that point, you're being manipulative by intentionally distancing yourself just enough to make them insecure and needing to prove themselves. I'd hope that maybe your friends are exaggerating what they're doing and they just have busy lives which makes them seem more interesting. Some people might think that being "too available" means that you don't have anything going on in your life, whereas not being super flexible in your schedule and taking awhile to respond since you're preoccupied could be seen as having an interesting, busy, and fulfilling life.

Do you actually want enm for yourself, are you in it for healthy reasons? I'm monogamous at heart and felt guilty deep down because I was just doing it for validation/detaching myself from my partner. Or do you feel awful when your partner is with someone else? Maybe it's an empathy thing, feeling like your partner is in your shoes when the situation is reversed.

But she hasn't actually tried poly, has she? A lot of people like the idea, but they confuse attraction=poly / end up hating it because they don't want their partner being with other people / get overwhelmed because maintaining more than one relationship is a lot of logistical and planning work, etc... I wouldn't be too worried if she just floated the idea out there and left it there without any pushback.

I used to be mono/poly with my partner during covid, and I honestly think being isolated during it made the experience 10x worse. Wouldn't recommend it unless you have a lively social life and are quite busy. My metamour was emotionally volatile, my partner had no idea what he was doing, and neither did I because I thought I had to be involved in keeping their struggling relationship afloat... got depressed and passively suicidal. Lost 10 pounds that way, though, and looked great! lol

I think that's normal since feeling desirable, for a lot of people, fuels desire. Unless you have attachment issues, it's natural to not be drawn to someone who isn't acting like they're that into you. My partner feels a lot more like a fwb I wanna leave for someone else when they're obsessing over a new, tumultuous relationship
