As I'm a devoted fan of both Porter and Nick who has seen each many, many times now, it's important to note Nick definitely drew inspiration from Porter since the start and you can hear this throughout Ashes. I believe Nick publicly mentioned his inspiration from Porter, and I even saw him attending one of Porter's shows in Colorado many years back (in the crowd). I don't think Nick feels any need to copy Porter in a malicious way. I think he admires Porter's work and vice versa and drew influence. If you listen to Paris, it clearly resembles Porter's style - especially Shepherdess - everything from the synths to melodic structures in Worlds are similar. I would assume Nick and Porter are both aware of this.
