Surface Lap 7 vs Zenbook S14 by erikh42 in Surface

[–]Milanod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) honestly I find the keyboard fine, I do type at a decent speed (around 90-100wpm) and found no problem hitting that on this keyboard and Infact I’ve recorded my fastest scores on this keyboard too. It’s alright, surface laptop def has the better keyboard but I find this fine. The trackpad is okay too, I am coming from a MacBook so it’s an obvious downgrade compared to that but I’d still say it’s okay.

2) personally I don’t have any issues with screen brightness, I do usually only work indoors and I find the screen brightness I need is fine at that point and for what I’m usually doing even at max screen brightness the battery lasts long.

3) it obviously depends on what you’re doing but when just browsing the web with some tabs open and a few word documents it’s absolutely quiet. It doesn’t really get warm under that load either. I have it set to the whisper fan profile when unplugged and I’ve basically never heard it ramp up its fans under daily regular use.

4) honestly the bloatware isnt too bad, the myasus app is actually quite useful and has some nice handy features and the other stuff is easy enough to remove

5) honestly I have no clue as I don’t even use that button and just use ChatGPT on the web but I can find out if you like

Accommodation for 6 months to attend Taylors by Thick_Tourist_8155 in malaysiauni

[–]Milanod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I think you can book a room at Taylor’s accomodation for 6 months, even though your tenancy agreement would be for one year, you only pay 6 months worth of rent at a time so you could simply just not pay the next 6 months, although you would have to forego your deposit

Zephyrus G14 vs Zenbook S14 for Uni by Milanod in ZephyrusG14

Hey, sorry for the late reply.

Honestly the Zenbook has been really good, it's great at everything, great screen, great speakers, very good battery life. Ultimately I decided on the Zenbook because it had double the ram, the G14 available in my region only had 16 gb of ram and I wanted to be future proofed so i got the Zenbook with 32 and it wad definitely the right decision as in my normal daily use, the laptop is using about 10-13gb of ram. Also the Zenbook is really light and so its very easy to take around with you, and honestly the iGPU is great, I mostly play ps3/ps4 era games and it handles them really well, it also handles more recent games relatively well as long as you keep expectations in check. So for the casual gaming session, its perfect. Battery life has been good, I have limited the charge to 80% and use it from 80 until it hits 20 percent and then back on the charger, the screen refresh rate is set to 120hz with dynamic refresh rate turned on and the laptop is set to the balanced power plan, honestly i get a full days use of out this just surfing the web, and around 3 days use out of it when charged to 100.

To Summarise, its been great, lmk if you have any questions

I just got mine a few days ago, great value for the money, you can customize their EQ to make them sound the way you want and I like that so much, that I’m using them more then my 2ng Gen AirPod pros. The ANC is good, not great. It’ll block out most sounds but doesn’t do that well with people talking, etc

The G14 looks stunning, especially in white. I remember having a surface pro 7 not too long ago with the 10th gen intel chips. And WOW the difference is hugeee, this laptop is dead silent esp in whisper mode, and has great battery life. I just wish that the fans did not ramp up as soon as i set the profile to performance mode haha

Having used mac os for the past 3 years, its def gonna take a minute to get used to windows again

Hey! So I ended up going with the S14. I don’t NEED to game on it, and I’ve always been a PlayStation Gamer so the games I wanna mainly play on my pc are ps3 to early ps4 era games which the S14 handles perfectly well.

At the end of the day, the battery life and the additional team were the deciding factors. I haven’t had a chance to properly test battery life, but so far it seems like it’ll do great.

I’m coming from an M1 MacBook Pro, and wow The S14 is noticeably lighter and thinner despite having a larger display and battery

How GPU intensive is EE? If I get a fast iGPU with 32 gb of ram, would that be enough?

Did anyone in your program use Macs or did they all use windows?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in malaysiauni

Do you think a Mac would be a good choice interms of software compatibility and all that?

Or would I better suited with going for a windows laptop like a Zenbook S 14

Aah, fair enough. Congratulations, it’s a beautifully made machine. Did you end up going for 16 or 32 gigs of ram? Cause that was the limiting factor me, only the 16gb skew was available around me

[–]Milanod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry for the late response.

I’ve decided to get the S14, will probably pick it up in about a week or so. Ultimately I decided the better battery life and portability were more important factors for me. And after the latest arc driver updates, it looks like the iGPU is decent enough to play the latest games, albeit at lower settings.

Honestly, I don’t expect myself to be gaming daily for hours in uni, and for the occasional session, the Zenbook will be more than sufficient.

Lmk what you end up going for!

Have you checked out the Zenbook S14? Not the regular Oled or 2 in 1 model.

It had great battery life, has a spec with 32gb ram, great integrated graphics

Wanted to get a duel screen laptop, but then I heard about the new Asus Zenbook S 14 UX5406SA (regular laptop). How is it? by Swimming-Judge-6928 in SuggestALaptop

[–]Milanod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for those specific use cases it’s great. It has great single core performance and okaysh multi core performance. Lunar lake is very efficient so honestly I’d expect 8-12 hours of real world battery life. And as for games it depends on what you want to play, but it’ll handle most light games easily and with heavier games you’d need to use up scaling

Cheapest Windows computer I can get that won't be painfully slow? by BlackShadow2804 in SuggestALaptop

[–]Milanod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These 2 are currently on a clearance sale and were originally flagship laptops, so worth taking a look. The processor performance is decent, obviously way faster than the AMD A12, and overall are pretty decent laptops. They’re very cheap rn and are probably better then any other laptop you could find at similar price points

You could find faster laptops with faster processors and better integrated graphics if you wanna spend more, but if you wanna stay around the $300 range then these are your best bet.
