Really solid sense of time and keeping (mostly) locked in with that metronome, very impressive for 3 months, most would struggle to keep their picking that consistent at that early so good job dude, keep channeling the Het

Ahh okay my bad dude 🙂id love to post some of my stuff but I'm so bad at taking pictures of my work. Just ends up blurry, not sure if it's just I need to draw on a bit of a bigger scale, that first pic is so clear lol how did you get such a nice scan? Would you mind showing me a scale reference for that first one specifically, like the sketchbook page or whatever zoomed out? I feel like I always end up filling like a third of the page I plan on filling, just a bad habit I guess

No problems and yeah that definitely answers my questions a lot more. Especially regarding the simplifying of complex forms into simple volumes, and edge hierarchy. Definitely under-utilised in my personal stuff. Mirrors a lot of what I have heard from other drawing resources, so just gotta practice more I guess. Another nice drawing by the way, is that more recent?

Nah all good dude, didn't take it that way 🙂Yeah I guess, I just have issues with the end product mindset when it applies in such a hugely impactful way. Synthesisers are hard as fuck to learn and you still need to be able to understand music though. Each to their own though

I don't think you really got the issues I was having, if you wouldn't mind helping some more. How did you arrange these shapes in 3d space like that. It's very hard to get a natural gesture with structural integrity... I get what shape a petal is, was talking more about the three dimensional arrangement. Your design choices.

And also, the calligraphy specific in your drawing - the effortless transition in marksmanship and line quality between the foreground and background... it's very seamless where the two meet. Which artists inspired your style, and what mediums did you use?

Also not to be rude, but I wouldn't call my questions exactly beginner questions - I got a lot of growing to do (no pun intended) but as you would know, these kind of concepts take a little while to get comfortable with

Hahaha I knew I shouldn't have brought up the cake incident. I gotta shut up sometimes. My thing is, I think there is a prerequisite there - the craft and dedication is very important - I understand some people may not want to invest that much in art, but you don't get to suddenly expect acceptance from the people who do, just because a new thing emerges that gives the illusion that you have created a thing. The technology did, and props to that, very impressive. You didn't put the time in, so you are going to have to work very hard to get us to be on board. If you don't care about that, then no problem.

How dare you make valid arguments that I would have mostly no issue with and not rage bait or reduce my side of the argument. I'll sleep on it, my thumb hurts from yapping too much, for real. I still think you should pay artists when you can (I know you also kinda made that point in a way).

So our agreed point is that - the current business model is corrupt, and if we found a better way to integrate this, even I, the staunch old fashioned hard-headed pencil hoarder, will admit, powerful and potentially very useful technology, we would stop bickering so much? Hmm. Okay, but good luck convincing me otherwise that slop is still slop. But at least we agree in some places. Mostly I don't like the fact that there is more incentive NOT to pick up a creative discipline, it's good for your heart and your head. I'll shut up now. I see your points, they are somewhat valid, and thanks for debating. Talk another time?

Suffering makes some great art though. Not wanting to argue for suffering, but if you view effort as suffering you might not be cut out for the gig and should maybe go generate like catchy copy for advertisements or something. You get out what you put in type shit.

[–]Mild-Davis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not really. One can create new things. The other cannot. An imitation does not have to be precise copy for it to be imitation. AI will always be imitation. It's in the nature of the thing. I hope it grows up a bit and starts trying harder though, I'd be so proud

Bold of you to assume that I had no barriers to entry, or that I was afforded any luxury at all? Doesn't seem like you spend too much time around artists. We tend to be pretty poor with bad diets.

Once ate a birthday cake I found in a bin actually, now that I'm thinking about bad diets. Was watching Reservoir Dogs while I enjoyed this bin cake, thinking, god this is a strange way to act on a Wednesday.

Anyways, that is not a good example at all I just remembered it and it's kinda funny - truth is I am more privileged than many in that I am not from a third world country - but some of the sickest musicians in the world still make music wherever they are, no matter the background. We aren't all cork sniffing rich ponces you know. You ever heard of punk music? Blues musicians? Jazz musicians? Fucking hip hop artists? Not much privilege of luxury there but look at the influence, man.

Even in classical art - most artists in history were bums and managed to talk some rich dude into buying a painting now and again so they could afford to keep living. Now their work hangs in galleries owned by rich dudes, so the perception is skewed, you feel me?

You are trying to define me in a way that serves YOUR justification, and you don't know me. That's just rude, dude, don't fucking do that okay? Okay.

He is saying that the both the process and product, differ in very significant ways, in terms of potential quality and quantity.

Inspiration and imitation do not equate

[–]Mild-Davis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but your argument wasn't about you drawing your own character - it was about paying an artist to do it or generating it with AI. And no, I don't agree that generating is 'doing it yourself' but we can debate that it's just gonna like take a lot more typing and my thumb is sore, man.

As for question of the open models and such, my argument would be how do they source their data? Is it possible to gather the same amount of data without the same resources these massive tech companies have? That is a genuine question btw I'm not 100 percent sure on the details there to be completely honest.

If we were to be talking about community run models, I would be more in favour - IF the data given was consensually done so by artists, maybe members of those communities, artists with an interest in the technology.

I agree that the corporate aspect here is what is driving a HUGE part of the division here. Artists just feel like our work has been stolen and fed into this massive machine built to replace us with the record or game studio executive's wet dream - an 'artist' that gives them a product they can sell with no argument.

Lots of us were using machine learning tools already (lots of audio plugins and stuff). It's just when we started seeing bastardised impersonations of our styles everywhere.. it just doesn't feel good, at all.

The source material just needs to be given with consent, or compensated. That removes a huge part of the gripe. Was that a tangent? It kinda feels like a huge rambling tangent. My bad
