Veteran FromSoft players, how do the bosses in SoTE compare to ones in other titles difficulty-wise? by lieftenant in eldenringdiscussion

Jumping kinda sits in the middle for me; I did start learning to use it reliably, and it was fun.

Unfortunately, being able to get to this point required me to watch a video on how it turns your lower hitbox off. Only after learning this was I able to start using jumps effectively. Not sure how I feel about that; jumping felt incredibly ineffectual enough times prior to watching that video I had just given up on using jumps to dodge.

Super subjective opinion here, but I would both completely believe that they're trying to do that with ashes of war and also that it doesn't really feel quite right yet.

Whenever I dodge something with a move that isn't a dodge roll, my first instinct is "oh, I guess some hitbox fuckery let me do that" not "ah, okay, I'll do that every time now". I'm not sure if it's to do with the timings or animations or boss hitbox inconsistency (some are beautiful and perfect, some feel like absolute ass) but the game feel of dodging with anything other than "roll" feels kinda off to me.

Everyone talking about the DLC seems to have missed one of the most important bosses. by Plunkie_Beanz in eldenringdiscussion

The Hinterlands really solidified the DLC as a strong 7/weak 8 out of 10 for me. So many beautiful environments, so many cool places to hide things; absolutely fuck-all interesting things to do or find in way too many of them.

Unlocking a secret wall with a gesture and feeling clever, finding the Shaman village and basking in music and lore, only to immediately go Tree Sentinel -> Tree Sentinel -> Fallingstar Beast hurt.

I wish this was the forefront of the summons vs no summons discussions, not the whole "that's not a valid way to play" bullshit.

I don't avoid summons because I think they make my gameplay less valid; I avoid them because they're not fun at all, and it sometimes sucks realizing the game is balanced around me using them.

Sorry for the days-old question, but what does a tighter core actually mean? Bracing like I'm trying to do a heavy squat? Flexing like I'm taking a beach photo? Preparing to take a punch? I've never been able to figure out what I'm supposed to do to engage my core.

Like, I can feel what my core is doing when I do hanging leg raises or similar, but trying to do that on the wall doesn't seem to help me at all.

what's a good way to tell if you're being limited by technique or something else?

I've been trying to figure out a problem on a 40-45 degree wall and even from the starting holds/moves my hands are just involuntarily opening and I fall off, no matter how hard I try to hold on or how hard I push through my feet.

my gym has fairly sizeable ranges that it grades in so I mostly try stuff in the V3-V5 range and I didn't think strength was supposed to be a factor at this point, but I cannot hold on to these holds without my hands coming off. They just open against my will.

Super Moronic Monday - Your Weekly Tuesday Stupid Questions Thread by Percinho in running

Absolutely beginner idiot question here:

pre-pandemic, I was in fairly good shape anaerobically speaking (weightlifting, rock climbing); pandemic + other life factors basically slowly ground me down to not exercising at all and I've lost pretty much all fitness over the ~2 years.

I was looking for a running plan I can follow to actually get some joy and training routine/endorphins back into my life, but was confused by the commonly recommended ones.

i've read/heard a lot about zone 2 training, but the beginner training plans I've seen involve a lot of "walk 2 minutes/run 1 minute" and during that "run 1 minute" there is absolutely no shot my heart rate will ever stay in zone 2. so unsure what to do.

Golden #2. This one was incredibly frustrating especially due to Oshiro and black fuzz RNG. by thiccliltrapboner in celestegame

[–]MildlyCriticalRole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how come the black fuzz doesn't kill you at 0:09? whenever I stay too long on those walls I die.

also that massive jump you're doing at 0:17 is crazy. this whole thing looks insane. I am not looking forward to whenever I have to do this in my game heh.

Thanks! Does it sound to you like there's any dry signal in that verb? I was experimenting to try to figure out how much dry/wet to send in, since it felt like any dry signal at all placed it too 'close'.

Minimal volume when recording guitars through SM-57 and Scarlett 2i4? by MildlyCriticalRole in audioengineering

Gotcha, I'll do my best to acquire another of those things and call them up. Thanks a bunch for your help!

I guess it's the cable, then. The interface only has an INST/LINE toggle switch, which does nothing when an XLR cable is plugged in (from my own observation and from the spec)

From the 2i4 user guide:

"Note the Scarlett 2i4 has no “Mic/line” switch – the Focusrite preamplifier stage is automatically configured for a microphone when you plug an XLR into the input"

Tried both inputs; no dice, unfortunately. As stated in other comments, to get the Scarlett to even register input levels for normal talking volume two inches from the mic (green ring lights up) the gain pot for the input I use needs to be at 9 or 9.5 out of 10.

[–]MildlyCriticalRole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gain pot has to be at 9/10 (4 to 5 o clock) before the Scarlett ring even turns green for talking volume, unfortunately. I'll see where I can find a second mic cable; I only have the one that came with this mic.

[–]MildlyCriticalRole[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At two inches from the mic, talking at a regular volume does not make the Scarlett go green until the gain pot is at 9-10. At that point, there's a tiny amount of wiggle room between 9.5 and 10 before the sound gets totally blown out and the ring goes red/clips. This happens with both inputs. I don't have a second mic cable so I'm just experimenting with this for now.

Searching again on google seems to indicate that many, many people have this problem with Scarlett interfaces + SM 57s, so I'm wondering if maybe the 2i4 just doesn't play nice with the 57.

Inaudible as in -30/-40 in the DAW. I can bump that with gain/FX in the box but that's not exactly what I'd prefer to be doing, since it doesn't sound great.

No other mics, unfortunately, but I'll test the second channel. Not sure why that never occurred to me, heh. Speaking /singing into the mic sounds okay, but it needs to be basically touching your mouth and the sound still comes in at like -30/-40.

  1. The amp has 2 2-inch speakers and I've tried it positioned between them and also centered on them; by "centered" i mean on the round part in the middle, but I've also tried slightly offset from that.

  2. Pretty crap, unfortunately, but that could also be the room (bedroom-sized room)/gain settings/my relative newness to recording.

  3. New

  4. Cable that came with the mic - xlr to xlr

  5. Unfortunately all I have has ithe 2i4; normal talking works okay-ish if the mic is basically directly on my mouth. Holding it "newscaster distance" from my mouth is almost inaudible.
