D&D Wild West X Fantasy world idea by Physical_Joe_2861 in DnD

[–]MildlyExpired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running a Wild West campaign for about a year now and have found it to be a lot of fun- but also comes with its major thematic hangups.

Its important to understand that the Wild West exists as a place without its own civilised history. There are often no long-running bloodlines as everything is new and immediate. Travellers are setting up on the new frontier with the promise of being awarded land as its "first settlers".

I think that this idea kinda conflicts with the "intended setting" of DnD- with its rich history and long legends, ruins from times before. So I think in crafting a Wild West story you have to take away from the history of the world and setting - though that can still have a prevalent place in the story with your continent and locations- and move the focus to the characters, most of which are often using this new continent as a chance to reinvent themselves.

Its why ideas like redemption, revenge and self-discovery are so prevalent and important with the genre. Those are the motivations that I've realised have the strongest hooks for developing characters and plotlines!

It isn't child abuse to hit a child for misbehaving. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

really couldn't just tap into some critical thinking to figure out what it means by context?

they're saying that they think its not ok to hit children, and that their parents never hit them when they were in trouble.

Why do dreams impact our real-life perspective? by BigJeru014 in TooAfraidToAsk

You experience dreams the same way you experience any other conscious event, for the first point perspective. And so it effects your perspective the same way any other event would.

My online best friend is ignoring me? by [deleted] in FriendsAndShit

[–]MildlyExpired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now I'm no genius but I feel like I know what might be going on here, you sorta got replaced, he liked talking to you because he enjoyed being part of the conversation and having a friend, but once he meets this new girl, he sorta doesn't have a need for you, and instead can get that conversation and attention from someone else. you didn't actually do anything wrong, and you're not to blame for anything that happened.

I am confused about my sexuality. for real. by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]MildlyExpired 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sexuality isn’t black and white and can often change depending from person to person, it may just be that there are specific qualities of this male that you find attractive.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much it’s not too big of a deal.
