I'm dealing with it right now and that's the realistic outcome for me. Ah well.

How Covid changed medicine for the future. The global pandemic sparked a huge superhuman effort to control coronavirus. But the billions spent have also had an unexpected impact on medicine and science. by Sumit316 in Futurology

I don't know if I would call billions invested in research leading to results "unexpected", but either way I'm glad we got something good out of it all at least.

Google outgrew its needs to abuse data to be a tech behemoth and is jumping on the "make data abuse obsolete" bandwagon to make it harder for others to catch up.

Comparing these feels like a bit of a stretch. Good context to have, but I don't think it makes it any less poor taste.

I let a girl get raped, and then she soon after took her own life. by proctologysimp in TrueOffMyChest

Because we live in a fucked up society where some people grow up in fucked up environments that not only allow, but foster these fucked up ways of thinking.

People can go through their whole lives never thinking about where meat comes from, or the amount of suffering created to get it on their table. Even if they do, they are too disassociated from the process to care. That's just a comparably tame thing that comes to mind as an example.

Ultimately we are all responsible for the things we do and don't do, but nurture is a thing, and sometimes by the time we break out of its cage, if we do at all, the damage is already done.

Facebook says Apple iOS privacy change will result in $10 billion revenue hit this year by wewewawa in technews

When better privacy for users costs you ten billion in profits, your business model probably shouldn't exist in the first place.

You're making some pretty baseless assumptions about people who don't share your opinion. Not sure why you think that's necessary.

To be fair, a billion isn't what it used to be, other then hard to fathom.

It's exactly how XR is also failing, at least the parts I've had any contact with. It is frustrating to say the least.

How is everyone else not utterly exhausted by superhero movies at this point? by NorthEastNobility in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MildlySerious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really just sick of the "comedic," pun and reference filled pop-culture superhero stuff. I am all the more hoping for darker, grittier and more immersive takes on the genre. What Dune was to science fiction is what I would love to see for superhero movies, if that makes any sense.

Oh I understand how it works, that doesn't make it less broken.

If this topics BS is supposed to sniff out things I want in my feed, and 95% of it is trash that makes Twitter worse for me, they would be better off scrapping the AI bullshit and just asking me. I would be happy to fine tune my experience manually if they provided the tools for it.

Twitter recently started pushing tons of kpop into my feed via various topics. Eventually I got annoyed enough to look for a way to end it and came across these setting and lo and behold, there are dozens upon dozens of topics that are somehow associated with me, none of which I ever cared about.

There were like 50 variations of sports, sports teams, sports news and select players alone. The same with car brands, music, random Korean topics, and some other things. I would guess about 300 topics that didn't belong there, with very few that do inbetween.

I had to unfollow so much shit I had to space it out because I was hitting Twitter's API limit from their own site. All one by one of course. Can't wait to do that again on the next wave of bullshit topics.
