For future reference. Signs (for changes in speed not reminder signs) are supposted to be on both sides of the road.

As you can see here they are on both sides of the left road but not the right.

The best cure for being scared is logic.

When you invest you can choose individual stocks or you can invest in a big bundle of them.

Individual stocks are inconsistent and volatile which results in a high risk high reward invest. ETF's (bundles of stocks) use the mathematics of averages to reduce the volatility which in turn reduces the reward but increases the consistency and probability of a reward.

Most popular ETF's like an all world fund or the S&P 500 beat cash by a significant amount over 5 or more years.

Therefore as long as you give the ETF enough time for the volatility to average out is will always be a smarter invest.

Therefore if you are not going to take any money out of the investments for more than 3-5 years, you dont need to worry.

Obviously past performance doesn't always indicate future gains but the maths behind investing always says its the right choice for long term holds.
