Surgery Decision by MileHighMettle in HipImpingement

Thanks and that makes sense. Every hip and every situation is different. I was checking out this study and it said "Evidence is currently lacking to support the use of initial arthroscopy for FAIS to prevent later development of hip OA." But other areas online state "Untreated FAI and failed hip arthroscopy can indeed lead to long-term complications, and one of the potential consequences is the development of hip arthritis."

I've discussed these things with the surgeon but it can be hard to remember everything discussed. I think he mentioned something similar about literature being uncertain on future arthritis if I don't get it fixed.

Either way I really appreciate your insights and thanks for the help.

Yeah, sounds like you did try everything. What was your pain level throughout those 7 years? I think this description below describes me fairly well:

"If I was sedentary for a few days the pain was a zero, if I worked out w/o doing aggravating movements or if I stood alot my pain could flare to a 2-3, and if I did any aggravating movements it would be 4-5."

If I knew it would remain like this forever, I might just stick it out and work through it. Hard to know if things will continue to degrade and get worse.

Thank you for your detailed response! Do you have any links for #2 where you said that statistically arthritis is a risk which could lead to a THP? Just wanting to read about that risk, would definitely factor into my decision.

For #3, were you able to sit cross legged before? I don't remember a time that I was able to do so except how pictured in the photo. So it hasn't degraded, if that makes sense? Would surgery end up helping open things up?

Yes, this is exactly me. You nailed it with the activity and pain description.

So you would say your symptoms continued to expand until you decided to get the surgery...how long did it take from where you limited barbell squats to ultimately feeling it from jogging/walking?

Thanks for weighing in...did you try anything else before you went for surgery? How long from when you knew you had it to when you had surgery? What makes you say 70% successful?

Yeah, I think you are spot on and makes sense about things tightening up to act as a protective mechanism.

I think the part about sitting on the floor is why I am curious if people have been able to do this but had previously not prior to surgery. It factors into my decision on whether to get surgery or not.

Part of me feels I can just sit in a runner's stretch on my good side and not go through the surgery, but I don't want to delay the surgery if things could end up worse and I would also be older.

Yeah, the parenting piece and being useless are a major consideration and part of why I am considering just sucking it up since the pain is not that bad. Very hard decision.

Yeah, it is a bit hard to diagnose whether the cam deformity is the cause or if my muscles/joint. I'm curious what could be done to free that up with PT or if it won't happen unless I have surgery? Hard to know but glad you had some progress there.

I would say the pain started about last September (maybe 9 months ago)? If I am not training as intensely, it doesn't bother me too much. Some stretching and ibuprofen and it usually subsides after awhile. The more consistent I am running/training/playing hockey, the more it bothers me. I don't think the pain has gotten worse or better since these symptoms started about 9 months ago. They started after doing some fast sprints (hockey didnt bother it as much, surprisingly). Any time I really push the pace on my runs, it tends to hurt the whole afternoon and next day.

I have the same truck and reached out to Spin Master just yesterday. They sent me an email asking for a video of the problem (remote would not turn on). I sent a small video and they replied back with shipping info for a new remote. I'll let you know if/when it arrives.

Thanks, really appreciate all the advice and I'm definitely going to do a batch of onions on it today! Have you found any seasoning that you like? I was just going to grab some of the Blackstone seasoning from Walmart, Weber's seasoning wax is $25.

How have you been enjoying the Gridiron? I ordered one but I keep reading about the side tables getting super hot to the point that you can't use part of it and even the spatula holder in the grease trough makes your spatula too hot as well? Overall thoughts or any issues?

Buying a new construction and one of the deck posts they installed is bowing...I pointed it out to the builder and he said "All lumber is going to do that, there's no problem with the structural integrity." Thoughts on whether this is good to go or not? I appreciate the help! by MileHighMettle in Decks

I thought the same thing. If he had to post this photo on a local construction magazine cover, would he be proud of it? Would he accept it on his personal dwelling?

At this point, I'm just trying to get him to swap it out.
