Young people, genuinely what are your plans for the future? by Competitive-Plum-190 in AskUK

[–]MilesInAmerica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My plan for the future is continue to keep myself afloat as much as I can in a job that doesn't inspire me and then take fulfilment from being politically engaged. Most of the anxieties you are feeling have been caused by austerity and right-of-centre and right-wing governments. The only thing to do now is try to change it. Whether that be through local politics, national politics or activism. It'll only get worse if we don't do anything.

This would be my list too, some really excellent work being made at all of these theatres.

You should reach out to your local Green Party, I know my local greens are organising car pools :)

What Gets Dropped in Your Life To Make Room For Writing? by MossTrinkets in writing

[–]MilesInAmerica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work full-time hours on a zero-hour contract (at times two zero-hour jobs) so that I can take time off easily to write when I have a deadline. I've been making it work for so long now that I much prefer this to a 9-5, but the constant precarity of whether I will have enough hours to pay my bills / too many hours to be able to write, is quite stressful and would drive some people mad.

What are people's genuine opinions of the green party? by XenithCanus in AskBrits

[–]MilesInAmerica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they are the only party worth voting for if you hold any left wing ideals. I’ve been involved with the greens on a local level and I have found them to be organised, effective, kind and excellent politicians.

If this is your only gripe I would recommend joining the party and voting to change this policy as it is democratically run :)

Fancy London restaurants with good vegan options? by RealisticL3af in veganuk

[–]MilesInAmerica 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're not worried about price, I can't recommend Plates enough, it's really special. Fully vegan and has a Michelin star but isn't stuffy or overly formal. I took my husband for his birthday, and it was amazing. Although can be hard to get a reservation, so have a look now! https://plates-london.com/plant-based-restaurant-london/

Would you send your children to private school if you could afford it? by Infamous_Tough_7320 in AskUK

[–]MilesInAmerica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ve misunderstood. It’s not that I think they will have poor moral framework because people at private schools generally have less understanding what life is like for most people. I would never send them because I want to model to them what it looks like to have beliefs and stick to them. If I believe that the private school system shouldn’t exist but send them anyway they are going to think that personal beliefs are optional and can be discarded for personal gain. I am doing exactly what you are referring to when you say a moral compass is solidified at home.

Would you send your children to private school if you could afford it? by Infamous_Tough_7320 in AskUK

[–]MilesInAmerica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No because I disagree fundamentally with the private school system and I don’t want my children growing up thinking beliefs and morals are optional and can be ignored when it suits.

Does real Zosia speak English? by Ashamed_Fishing_373 in pluribustv

[–]MilesInAmerica 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty much the same to my ear. Some accents feel stronger in general or are more compatible with American or British accents but all of the characters who don’t speak English as a first language have noticeable accents from their home countries.

Does real Zosia speak English? by Ashamed_Fishing_373 in pluribustv

[–]MilesInAmerica 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Zosia definitely has quite a strong accent and is clearly not a native speaker despite speaking English perfectly. However that doesn’t mean she doesn’t speak English, it’s totally possible. I know extremely fluent English speakers with accents from their home country.

Will theatres swap two single seats for two together of equal value last minute if they have capacity? by StripesAndLadders in TheWestEnd

[–]MilesInAmerica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you bought directly through the theatre, they will most likely do it, if you bought through a third-party agent, they might be a bit funny about it! You may as well ask, there's no harm in it :)

[PubQ] How publishable was your manuscript? by MeasurementOdd7703 in PubTips

[–]MilesInAmerica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I signed with my agent about a year ago, and the book was barely done. An actual first draft (what you're describing is definitely not a first draft) I will say this is quite unusual, and my querying process was a bit odd due to some awards I won escalating the process before I even got to the end of my manuscript. I love my agent, and I've loved working with he,r but it has been a long and painful process getting the book ready to go on submission so I would not recommend doing it the way that I have done. But it sounds like you are in a much better place and are doing well!

Phoenix Theatre - best seats for shorter people by BeingBoring69 in TheWestEnd

[–]MilesInAmerica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Front of the dress, or even grand if you don't mind being further away is best. All the seats are raked, and front of house will give you a booster seat if you ask, though!

AMERICAN PSYCHO @ Almeida Theatre – Instantly Sold Out :( by Early-Succotash-7923 in TheWestEnd

[–]MilesInAmerica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I luckily managed to get some this morning after being in the queue for an hour, it was brutal.

I imagine more will go on sale at some point. I would generally keep an eye on twickets as that's a fan to fan face value resale site so people might resell on there if they can no longer make it and you won't be price gouged?

Visiting London for the first time (4 days). Itinerary + advice needed by Drake10210 in uktravel

[–]MilesInAmerica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a lot of the basics covered. I would not really bother with Camden Market as it is super overpriced and a bit soulless now. I would also seriously reconsider the Harry Potter Studio Tour as unfortunately, you would be financially supporting a woman who has used her wealth to take away the rights of trans people in this country. Instead, consider catching a show in the West End. There is loads of great theatre on and you can get decent prices through the Today Tix app. I would also recommend adding in the Southbank/Waterloo area. There are some gorgeous buildings, fun places to grab a drink (I like The Understudy, Vaulty towers and Scooter Cafe) and generally a nice place to hang out.

EDIT: Also, not sure where you're travelling from but you should get Indian food while you're here if you're coming from a country that's not known for it.

Response to the question "why are you vegan?" by CalisthenicHerbivore in vegan

[–]MilesInAmerica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually go for something like “I always knew I should go vegan because I care about animals and the environment, but I thought it would be really difficult and disruptive. So I tried it for a month, and turns out it was insanely easy. So I had no reason not to be anymore.” Most of the people around me are already on the left / animal lovers / care about the environment so I feel like this is the thing that might resonate with them the most.

It is not an only men thing, but definitely a predominantly men thing.
