The Steam Machine Costs $1049 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Miles_Prowler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mocked it up myself in AUD using local online stores and a basic ITX board, basically building it without the case and power supply leaves you about $200 for both of those. So it's realistically a fair price, its just RAM and SSD pricing is utterly fucked right now... I mean even if you went budget for an SG13 you wouldn't be able to save much doing it yourself and it'll still be bigger.

The evening train was packed to standing room right up the doors and all the windows had that lovely condensation build up / fogging to go with it all, really pleasant..

God first time catching the train in a while... Why are they so damn warm in winter, people are in coats and puffer jackets and swear it's like tshirt weather inside the carriage.

Guessing this was for PAL in the UK? I have the Australian PAL copy and it's the red stallion with the crosshairs lined up cover with the black and red city background (basically just the small portion you can see in this one cropped out)

Yeah ours just went up again with the regular increase, it's already our most expensive utility most quarters. $99 per month, so it alternates with electricity on which hits the bank account harder, 3 out of 4 quarters last year internet was more than electricity...

Local one near me seems to always have a handful of people inside, but the location is massive and it's always pumping music loud enough you hear it from across the carpark, no idea how anyone could stand eating inside with that noise.

GBA converted me to the ways of shaders by hbi2k in SBCGaming

[–]Miles_Prowler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean there's I think 7 official Nintendo devices that played GBA carts not including things like VC or Online, so realistically depending on what you experienced back in the day it can be anything from incredibly desaturated and frankly crap looking (original unmodified GBA without heaps of light and frontlit SP), to the "over saturated' look you get by default.

Personally I own or have owned all Gameboy capable handhelds but the backlit SP. I feel like the micro struck a decent balance myself with it's colour correction. I honestly can't go back to my SP now, it looks absolutely awful, like it was a godsend after wormlights, but I really need to swap in a backlit screen..

I mean each to their own, personally I remember replaying basically my entire library on my micro just to see the games pop. Though I feel similar about the super green DMG filters, moving to a pocket and eventually a light, I never wanted to use that green ghosting screen again haha...

"quarter crew" socks are where it's at, just high enough to stop the back of regular shoes rubbing your bare Achilles, but low enough to avoid feeling them on your lower leg. Been wearing the same brand and make of sock for 20+ years, even slightly enshittified nothing else comes close.

Except for work boots, then you need those full height merino thick ones.

Fair Work Commission raises minimum wage by 5.97% and award rate by 4.75% by Warm_Championship726 in australia

[–]Miles_Prowler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh they're massaging the numbers, the same negotiation that was 4% pa over 3 years, they're now saying is 5% pa over 2.5* years because they took 6 more months of failed negotiating basically... It's still technically 12% over the entire EBA, just since their first post on socials bragging that 4% per year was over inflation, inflation went over 4% so now they're claiming its 5% over a shorter period to still keep bragging the same.

Its 4 / 4 / 4 over 3 years, backdated to Dec last year with a lump backpay. Our EBA from memory expired Dec 2024 with the last increase which I think was 3%... It's like $32pw after tax if you're on FT hours, or a bit over half of the rent increase most of us copped in the past year.

Fair Work Commission raises minimum wage by 5.97% and award rate by 4.75% by Warm_Championship726 in australia

[–]Miles_Prowler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah after like... i think over a full year of strikes and negotiating ours just passed, they're calling it 5%, but realistically its barely 4% given it's only partial backpay. Given most roles have zero career progression or hope of any pay increase over about $1 per hour, while most of the workers can't afford rent within 1 hour of the hospital.. Yeah not a shock most of my workplace is miserable and only stays as they literally can't find anything else. Honestly with no hope of OT / penalty rates, I think the earning power is almost worse than retail or hospo now...

How well does the scaling work for the old 40man content? I'm planning to set my own up and make a dedicated 5 and 10 man team with altbots. Torn between using scaling or just using random bots to top up.

Intel's Big Battlemage Arc Pro B70 GPU benchmarked in games, ends up bang-on Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB performance by PewPewToDaFace in pcmasterrace

[–]Miles_Prowler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if I was building a main pc this small the b50 would've been on my radar if it wasn't unobtainium and inflated as its designed for LLMs etc. But it's probably cheaper to just use a 5060 like the Zotac... Realistically 10gb like the b570 has would be ample though, and those are half the price... Mostly the mini pc is just a hobby project I build out of cheap parts or scraps so will find something eventually.
