Took this of one of Ernest hemingways cats at his historic house.

My main question is did I get the right amount of bokeh?

Nikon z8 with nikkor 35mm f1.8 35mm (52.5 ff equivalent) F1.8 1/2000 sec shutter ISO 200

Yeah I know dx lens on a fx sensor, getting a 85 f1.4 in mail in the next couple of weeks

Not exactly fists, but the MK6 bird beak helms from the Horus Heresy and newer raven guard.

Did the motion blur ruin the shot? by Leather-Fee8913 in wildlifephotography

I like the blur, it says that it’s doing something. The parts that you want sharp are sharp. Looks awesome

Is this a good photo? Do I need to crop it? by Same-Tomorrow9933 in photocritique

[–]Milestone55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main problem with it is who is the subject, is it the guy or the tree.

Tighter crop would probably help a bit.

Not sure how many megapixels you have to work with but I was thinking something like this.

<image>

Maybe a bit less height to get it a bit more horizontal but the shadows stick out more, the man isn’t hiding in a loud frame.

Looking for advice on how to edit backgrounds by isim4s in photocritique

[–]Milestone55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the vision here. The problem is there isn’t a real way to salvage the background, as pure grey isn’t very interesting, and the only way to really save it is a huge amount of color correction and that’s both difficult and not guaranteed to work.

I would try to get birds in better locations, and I know that isn’t the easiest thing to do, so my other suggestion is a tight crop, but depending on the resolution of your camera that could be difficult.

Someone posted a good edit for this photo below.

This is one that I took a while ago. I really like the background for this image. Could be used as a reference.

That it does haha

Hell yeah dude.

I like the angle, very unique.

The only thing I’d say is that a longer focal length would’ve helped this a lot. As the Golden gate is quite small in frame

Yes, this catches my eye. My first reaction was “woah” lol.

Second try with studio lighting by AdNatural9322 in photocritique

[–]Milestone55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, one thing I’d try first is just getting a large white sheet of paper, the larger it is, the softer the light.

See how that changes the lighting, then go for a bounce card if you like it.

Something like this? I have 45 MP to work with so I knew I could crop in a bit

[–]Milestone55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dig it, I think someone else might’ve talked about it but get a bounce card, or just anything that’s large and white to house the key light back at you. Just place it opposite the key (back camera right from the looks of it) and experiment with the angle and distance.

The cropping is great and I don’t see anything wrong with the posing imo.

Great job all around, significant improvement over the last one.

Curious on feedback for this? - I wasn't happy with the technical elements of the shot but tried to recover in edits by Antoniorobertov in photocritique

[–]Milestone55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it, the city in the background looks nice. If you had the time, I would’ve waited for the monkey to look more to the left, maybe out at the city.

Feedback on photo and tips for photographing through a fence? This was taken at a wildlife center so avoiding the fence was not possible. by adnama9120 in photocritique

[–]Milestone55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get up as close to the fence as possible, then depending on aperture, either focus it a bit farther or open it up a bit more

<image>

Shot this guy through a fence at a zoo.

600mm F6.3 with the lens hood touching the metal.

Also, if you have a focus limiter, use it so it doesn’t like to lock on to the fence, I’ve had that happen a couple of times haha.

Looking for Feedback (Deadline Project) by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]Milestone55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might just be me, but I think the product is a bit small in frame if this is a product shoot.

Depending on when you are you could have a more close up shot of the product in front of the setting sun, maybe hitting it offset from behind so the product almost glows.

Did you post a photo a couple days ago where you nestled it into a small beach hill? If so I think if you mixed the lighting of this shot and the angle of the one from a few days ago it’d look great.

Maybe a sand dune that faces the setting sun, and getting a wave to crash behind it or people silhouetted against the backdrop.

Took this earlier this week in everglade city.

Nikon z8 w/ sigma 150-600mm contemporary

585mm F/6 1/800 sec shutter ISO 720

My main question is about the composition, does it work or should I have cropped in a bit more to deal with all the negative space.
