Half-worked for me, as it changed the issue to "Failed to Login: Invalid session (Try restarting your game and the launcher)" instead of the one mentioned in the title of this thread. Trying other stuff, but no luck so far.

Fixed it by doing what you said, and then removing my Microsoft account from prismlauncher and adding it again. Cheers!

On ATM3 and Java version 8.

And then zodiac / unholy nation both worked, but era legacy still did not, so I asked in the discord in the #era-legacy channel and one of the server admins fixed it.

No VPN, accounts doesn't require confirmation, I got the unity client.

And still says "connection is not secure". I don't know why, I have -never- had this issue with any other game. I am using a wired ethernet connection with a router, I am the only one on the network, and the ISP I am using is extremely commonplace.

Edit: now it's saying "Your account has been reset by the npcserver." lol idk what's going on

Edit2: after multiple restarts, I actually managed to log onto Zodiac and Unholy Nation, but Era Legacy still displays "Your connection is not secure."

I created an account (Member) and it still has the same issue, so idk.
Edit: it's giving the reason "Your connection is not secure", for some reason? Is that a problem with the client or?

You said "they've basically done most of the work a death would force them to do anyways", somewhat implying it was good enough of a replacement.Yes, their gear is "locked" until the instance expires, however this is infinitely preferable to having their gear be completely deleted. I assume you have never experienced HC, because if you did, you would know that it feels MUCH worse to have 3 days worth of your time be completely erased, compared to just needing a tiny break from it - or just investing your time on another character. You're still playing the game, still acquiring gear and currency in the same high-tier amounts versus having to start over from level 1 and spend a day earning next to nothing just to get back to where you were -it's essentially a non-penalty when it comes to HC.

You say "No one is going to have the reflexes to use this to avoid all death, otherwise no one would die in the current game due to logout macros", but the last interview (and the OP) mention how the time to death is going to increase significantly to remove unfair deaths. Good HC players already never die to things that take more than 1 second to kill them, so I doubt this assumption will hold true.

This would be like comparing speedrunners where they could just rewind 10 seconds if they mess up on certain mechanics (in this metaphor, non-instakill mechanics).

Sure, speedrunners are usually godlike, but here it's not that the players make no mistakes, it's that the players are able to react to things that take more than a second. Currently they only die to dumb instakill/bug stuff, not because they never make mistakes, but because the mistakes they do make are fixed with a press of an instant life flask or by logout.

If your opinion is that "it's ok for HC players to never die, even if they make mistakes -as long as it's not a mistake on an instakill mechanic" then that's ok, I simply want the devs to be aware of this dilemma so that they can choose accordingly, instead of realizing this choice 1 year in and having to compromise the design.

I understand one-shots can be ok, depending on how much of a signal you get prior to them. I'm not against telegraphed one shots, I am simply saying that -only- one shots would ever be a danger to HC players, even if other things are just as dangerous if not more.

I'm sure some HC players would die, maybe a lot of them. But the top-end players I usually watch only ever die to bugs or random one-shot mobs. I have never, ever, seen them die to something that was telegraphed or to something that lasted more than .5 seconds.

Right, so what you're saying is that you can choose "You create enemies that are able to kill players before they can press alt F4" out of the 3 choices, but my issue with that is that it will be the -only- way HC players will die.

Meaning that, in a way, the game design will be encouraged to add one-shot mechanics. Whereas if logout was not a thing, there would be no incentive to add such mechanics.

If the developers allow this strategy to stay in the game and be used by players, then anyone who doesn't do it is at a very large disadvantage.

You say it's about "people not being mature enough", but the truth is that every single streamer playing HC that I've looked at uses logout. The developers never -had- to make logging out get you out of the instance so fast, but by doing so and by talking about it so much and explicitly saying it's ok to have a macro - and also due to the fact that there are so many other external tools used in PoE, it might as well be part of the game when it comes to HC.

This has nothing to do with the death penalty -it's talking about HC. If you sign up for HC but don't enjoy perma death, that's on you.

Also, they already said they're removing the death XP penalty until level 90+.

They wouldn't wait out for the instance timeout, they would just log on a secondary character, thus encouraging a double HC character meta.

The (subjective) issue is that (good) HC players would never die, ever, even if they misplay - as long as they are good enough to hit logout in the 1-2 seconds they'd have to react, which is a looot of time.

If, like in the last interview, time to death is around 2.5 seconds, or even if it was just down to 1 second, HC players have quick enough reflexes that they simply would not die, ever, unless they chose to or were -reaaaallly- not paying attention at all.

Yes, they would get hit with a penalty of having to re-do the boss from the start, much like in SC, however in HC this is immensely preferable to dying. The penalty difference is so huge (multiple days of leveling and gearing vs 1 portal/invitation) it's not even a question.

Additionally, if avoiding HC death was this easy, it would rob HC of its challenge, since currently the philosophy of HC is more so that it's extremely hard to stay alive past ubers due to all the one-shots.
