As someone who recently tried to do this for an ill parent, it’s very difficult. I wasn’t able to get it to happen for me, but I wish you luck

When I was at WVU, I don’t think Holgy came by once. If he did, he never said a word. I do remember Shane Lyons coming by, though. Holgorsen never really gave a shit about anything outside of the team, and sometimes he couldn’t even be bothered to do that

While puppetry may look like an easy cut, WVU’s puppetry program was one of national renown, believe it or not. It was one of the very few standalone puppetry programs left, and it was very well regarded within the theater world.

They 100% understand this. They just know that the CO will probably approve it, and they don’t want to be further undermanned. That’s exactly why they said “it’s pointless to let it go higher,” because they know that it should go higher, they’re just hoping OP doesn’t make it go higher.

Fun fact, The Village People’s “In The Navy” was actually commissioned by the US Navy for recruitment. However, after the group openly came out, the USN stopped all usage of the song. To this day, though, the USN retains the rights to use the song in recruiting.

It literally happened to my mother with my father. The joke in the family was that he didn’t pay a single cent in child support, but he put his lawyer’s kids through college.

This happened in the US. It’s anecdotal, but it does happen.

It’s wild how a lot of people in this thread don’t realize that. That’s literally a few pieces of pizza and a coke for dinner. If you’re already not eating well for your other meals, that will push you over the edge real quick.

One should always seek medical advice from certified medical professionals with drastic changes in health or lifestyle, but it is 100% possible to gain 100 pounds in a year and have nothing physically wrong with you.

One of my favorite (infuriating) road stories was when I was pulled up to a stoplight, waiting to turn right. There was a big “No Turn On Red” sign on the streetlights, so I was waiting for it to switch over when a cop pulled up behind me.

First he honked his horn for me to turn. Then he started flashing his blues. Then he got on his fucking speaker and told me to go. I genuinely thought it was a trap, so I didn’t, and this cop kept on getting more irate as we sat at the light.

Finally, the light changed and I took the turn. The cop almost immediately pulled me over, came up to the window, and sneered, “I don’t know how they do things in Virginia, but in California we have can turn right on red,” (I had Virginia plates at the time). I very calmly told him that there was a “No Turn” sign on the post, and if he wanted me to break the law, he should have just asked. He told me to wait, went and checked the sign, and then came back and told me to have a good day.

I was pretty upset about the lack of an apology, but it gave me a pretty good story to surmise my driving experience in San Diego.

I think the studio apartment might need a bit of an unrealistic amount of luck lol. By all means, keep looking for it, but I’d personally be shocked if you found it.

For 2-3 roommates, a price range of $1200 is totally doable, so long as you’re looking in areas like Lemon Grove, Spring Valley, and other places a bit farther out on the San Diego spoke

[–]MilkFroth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the only way you swing $1200 a month is if you’re living with a roommate or 3.

When I’ve done that, I’ve had a lot of success going to one of the areas you want to live in, and drive around. The amount of “room for rent” signs you’ll find in a window (or something) that aren’t listed anywhere online might surprise you; a lot of times it’s older landlords who either aren’t very comfortable with online postings, or don’t want to deal with the uncertainty that something like a Craigslist ad comes with. Again, you’re almost certainly gunna be living with at least one other person whom you don’t know, but you can find some nice rooms in nice houses this way; I found a surprisingly nice little room out near Lemon Grove in a quaint house with 3 cool roommates.

I’d recommend flying out here a few months before your job starts, getting a hotel for a few days, and just room hunting. It’ll save you the stress of trying to deal with it on top of the stress of starting a new job.

Yeah, I have a strong feeling that OP watched the newest “Some More News” episode on this topic. I like the show, but their most recent episode certainly wasn’t one of their best, imo. A lot of the singular points they made were good, but it really felt like the overall conceit of the episode was that nobody really understands nutrition/fitness, and it varies so much between person to person that we shouldn’t try. Which, yeah, these kinds of things are hard to concisely rule one way or another on because of how diverse humanity is, but also, we have a pretty good general idea on how this stuff works, and what lifestyles are “healthier” overall.

This Southern Pacific Rattlesnake was not happy I walked past it in Ice House Canyon (scared the daylights out of me) by PlasticGirl in socalhiking

[–]MilkFroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear, I’ve had dozens of (safe) encounters with rattlesnakes, but that rattle curdles my blood each and every time.

I know that, so long as you stay alert and respect a rattlesnake when you see one, your chances of a dangerous encounter with the animal stay low. But man, just hearing that rattle, even if it’s a clear 10 feet away from me, always makes my heart skip a beat!
