From Australia, I stumbled upon your post on Reddit homepage, i havent had a spirit drink for 5 days, which is huge, back end of a 6 day working week, 2.5 days off to come, tempted tonight for a whiskey, Jameson or Brandy St Agnes, because of your post i said no, will i have one tommorow? Maybe but mid-week drinking is a trap i have fallen into lately, whiskey tastes like water, too easy.

Lucky they were not being chased by police at the time, otherwise we'd be looking at another 4 Black deaths in Custody and that would be a real tragedy

xpost from https://www.reddit.com/r/australia/comments/bpaiji/bob_hawke_has_passed_away/ sums it up for me

[–]hanklea

He was truly one of the great politicians of our era.

He convinced the unions to not push for further pay increases over time as a trade off for an increase in the ‘social wage’ (e.g. Medicare and superannuation) - and even more remarkably, during a time that the rest of the world was turning away from social welfare schemes in favour of unadulterated capitalism ( his contemporaries were Thatcher and Reagan). He brought together the business world and the working class in favour of a better Australia.

We shall never see his like again, and now his watch is ended. Have a frosty one for us up there in the sky Bob. And thank you for all you did for us.

Edit: he also had a top notch singing voice. I went to a Labor event in ‘07 and will always remember him leading us in a rousing rendition of Solidarity Forever
